Chapter 1 - the beginning

February 3rd

"Ringing"

Ugh, how annoying. I don't know why I only feel sleepy when I have something to do in the morning. I turned off the alarm and headed to the bathroom. As usual, I washed my miserable face, then went to the kitchen to drink something to get rid of the disgusting toothpaste taste in my throat.

Sound of drinking

A sign of annoyance.

The taste got even worse. This is annoying.

Then I looked at the window that opened onto the clear blue sky.

After a while, I heard a light ringing sound on my wrist.

I turned my gaze from the window toward the sound and saw that it was my watch, and it was around 7:50.

In just a few seconds, I let out the scream of a lunatic, saying to myself:

"How can daydreams last more than an hour with me?!"

Then I started running toward the school.

Reader's Perspective

Under the crowded streets, we see Alfrend running like a madman, dodging traffic with ease, and he clearly looked annoyed.

Alfrend's Perspective

Is there traffic only when I'm in a hurry?

This is the price of daydreaming.

And that's not the only problem — this is actually my first day at school.

It's not like I'm scared of people's impressions, but I don't want a headache.

It's enough that I woke up to the sound of that useless alarm.

Honestly, I need to change it. I don't think my brain can take another ring from it.

Huh, what's that sound!!

I turned my head to the left while running and saw a truck a short distance away.

"Alfrend!"

Oh crap. Before I could finish my words, I felt something push me forward.

To be honest, it was a strong push, and I ended up on the ground.

I opened my eyes and said:

"Am I dead?"

Then I gave myself a quick check and found I was fine, just a few scratches from the fall.

I looked behind me and saw a person with blood on their forehead.

I stared at him briefly, then put my hand in my pocket, pulled out my phone, called the ambulance, put some money in his pocket as a thank-you, and ran off, finally reaching the school.

"Seriously, is this an academy or a city?"

I entered the academy and gave a quick glance at my surroundings.

To be honest, it's massive. The place is full of shops and gardens.

How much money was spent on this academy?

Five minutes later

I finally arrived. I walked into the long hallway decorated almost on every side.

"Looks like I'm going to have a good time here."

Oh, I finally reached the classroom. I knocked on the door and entered.

As expected, the teacher began scolding me, and inside I was screaming, wishing he'd stop talking — the smell of his breath alone could destroy my sense of smell.

Damn, my luck is miserable.

Three minutes later

"Alright, go sit in your seat now."

I scanned the room looking for a good seat, but as expected, the only spot left was in the back by the window.

"That's good. At least I won't be annoyed by the teacher's disgusting breath."

I sat down until I heard a soft girl's voice say:

"Welcome."

I turned to the source of the voice and saw a girl talking to me.

Inner thoughts

"Damn, I forgot about annoying classmates. How did I miss that detail?"

Then I sighed and said:

"Nothing I can do. I'll just go along with her."

"Nice to meet you too."

She let out a small laugh and said:

"Is that the best greeting you could come up with?"

"Yeah, is there a problem with that?"

"Not like it's a problem, but…"

"But what?"

"Nothing, forget it."

As soon as she finished, we heard clapping, and the teacher began speaking:

"I'll explain how things work here.

Classes are divided based on the entrance exam you took. For example:

Those who scored 85 or above are in Class A.

Those who scored between 75 and 84 are in Class B.

Those who scored between 65 and 74 are in Class C.

And those who scored between 50 and 64 are in Class D.

As for communication outside the academy — that is prohibited."

One student stood up in shock, saying:

"What do you mean by prohibited? Is this a school or a prison?"

The teacher replied:

"That's a harsh way of putting it. Also, everything was written in the survey, which outlined the academy's rules."

Alfrend's inner thoughts

"He's right, but the only detail that wasn't mentioned clearly was that the communication rule was written in much smaller text compared to the rest.

That's a cheap trick to make sure more students enroll — especially since most didn't bother reading that entire survey."

Teacher: "I think now you understand why you're in Class D."

He continued listing a few more rules, but one rule caught my attention — it was called 'Elimination.'

A student asked about it, and the teacher explained that it referred to the cases in which students could be expelled from the academy, like failing.

That is, if a student fails two of their subjects, they will be immediately expelled — even if their other grades are excellent.

Then the bell for the first period rang, and the teacher said:

"Now, go back to your homes."

"Excuse me, sir, but this is the first period."

"Yes, I know that. But this is the first day, and I've told you the rules you need to keep in mind. You may return tomorrow."

All the students left, and I started replaying the teacher's words in my head.

That teacher is suspicious. At first, he seemed like a joke, but thinking about it more — the way he spoke makes it clear that from this day forward, the rest of the days will be… hell.
