Even though Seraphina had saved Lucien, his head had slammed against something hard. For a moment, he just stared at her and was stunned. The same girl who had stopped him from jumping… had now thrown herself in front of danger to pull him out of it.
If she hadn't dashed toward him, the truck would've hit him full force. He might have died on the spot.
Lucien wanted to thank her and apologize at the same time, but the pain in his skull was sharp, his vision already fading. The world tilted, and darkness swallowed him before he could speak.
When he woke up two weeks later in the hospital, the ceiling above him felt strange, unfamiliar. His body ached, and his head throbbed with every breath.
A nurse told him where he was, what had happened—or at least what people thought had happened. But in his mind, there was only a gap. Everything after his breakup with Evelny was gone, like someone had cut that part of his life.
