Chapter 9 - Blooming Friendships and Piercing Thorns Pt3

"So then, would you be fine eating those purple flowers over there, the Incendesians? I point to the purple flowers from earlier and I kind of regret asking as I watch a flower fall and explode on the ground. "Oh yes, Five loves those! But they are sometimes hard to eat because they aren't ripe, and if they aren't ripe, they explode in your mouth! But the fruit they grow is really delicious if you can get to it." I look back towards the flowering bush that me and five are talking about. It must be very hard to enjoy a fruit that you can barely eat without the risk of it exploding in your mouth. "So in your opinion what tastes better, the fruit or the flower? Or do yo9u think the taste more of the same?" As we get closer to the bush, we have to walk around the rose bush, in my opinion it really is beautiful. "Five thinks that if your pick a ripe flower, it tastes almost exactly like the fruit. Five thinks it tastes like something sweet mixed with something burnt. It really tastes amazing. It is one of Fives' favorite things to eat aside from smooth stones!"

I don't know if I should trust the taste buds of a spider with an acidic stomach who eats smooth stones, but I do recall system telling me that many animals find them delicious. "Hey system, you said that I could grow any plant I wanted to right, what about the fruit of each plant? Will it be done correctly? Or do you recommend I try the fruit first? Can I do the same with vegetables?" It takes System a second to respond * I am unclear on how to answer that question. Of course, you could always make the plant and its fruit, I'm unsure whether it would taste the same or not. I recommend you try both options and see which yields the best results. * after listening to System I immediately move Five from my hands to my shoulder. "Okay Five, im going to try something really quickly and I want you to tell me how it tastes ok?" At the nod of Fives' head I begin using my ability to try and make the same fruit as I can see on the bush in front of me. From the ground I pull at a root near the base of the shrub and watch as a vine with a single bushel of the tasty looking fruit grows before me and Fives' eyes. "Wow, that looks just like the one in the bush! Gimme gimme!" I let the vine continue to grow until it reaches out right in front of Five. They take one berry off the bushel and after admiring it for a bit take a huge bite out of the fruit.

After a few chews, Five cringes up and falls off my shoulder landing with a small thud. "Oh my god, are you okay?" I crouch down and pick up five trying to make sure that everything I see is fine and nothing is broken. "That was the most disgusting thing Five has ever eaten. Five thought that it looked too good to be true, and Five was right! It tasted so sour and there was so much of the juice. Five does not want to try it again." I laugh just a bit and roll my eyes at all of the criticism my fruit making skills had just received from the tiny spider. Based on his reaction, I'm going to assume I need to try the fruit first before I make it. It seems we have a few drawbacks to our ability, but it's okay. Feeling brave I too take a berry from the bushel and pop it into my mouth. On my first chew, I feel my jaw lock and eyes start to water at how sour the berry is. I pry open my mouth and start spitting out every remnant of the foul fruit. It was so sour it burned. I know I don't need to eat, and I'm thinking it might need to stay that way.

"I thought you said I didn't have to out any thought into making anything, I thought you said I should just do. Just do and take solace in knowing that it would be fine and magic would take care of the rest. Well apparently, magic tastes disgusting!" After trying the berry, I couldn't help but hold a tiny hatred towards System. They now deserve not just a body slam, but I'm thinking of an RKO immediately afterwards. * Would you like to make this a mission? * At that question from the real system, darn I need give System System a name, I immediately nod my head and hear a small pinging noise. * To access your tasks, please say Task List. * Oh yeah, System isn't going to know what hit them, but I will. It'll be me. System stayed silent when I questioned them about my abilities, "It's okay, I know you hear me, and you will soon regret this decision."

I have something else I wanted to try. We're thinking that for me to create a fruit or vegetable perfectly, correctly, and exceptionally delicious, that I must know what it tastes like. Well in my opinion, I know what all the fruit like back home taste like! This time I back away from the Incendesians plant just a little and find a clear spot in the grass. I reach my hand out and again a slight glow begins to emanate from my palms. This time though the color is green instead of white. I wonder what the different colors mean. At first nothing happens, my hands continue to glow, but nothing is growing from the ground. Then when I wanted to quit, a leaf pops up and unfurls from the ground, the leaf grows taller and more leaves start to grow from the top along with the other leaf. A trunk starts to form as the leaves fan out and a beautiful flower blossoms and blooms in front of me and Five. "Wow, Five thinks that flower is the prettiest flower Five has ever seen. Its so big and colorful!" The tree has stopped growing and it seems to be only a few feet taller than me. The flower continues to grow even though my hands have now stopped growing and I'm no longer forcing it to grow. The flower bends from the sky and starts pointing towards the ground. At the base curved structures with brown ends begin sticking out and after a few more minutes, one of my favorite fruits is ready for me and Five to try. As I pick some of the fruit, Five chimes in, "Five has never seen a fruit that looks like this before, and Five has seen all the fruits we have?" I listen as five talks on and on about the huge amount of fruit trees and bushes that grow on the island and how they've tried them all but have been unable to pick a favorite.

Well I'd hope you've never seen a fruit like this because this is something from my homeland, after you pick it, some people like to wait a while, but I like mines pretty fresh or a little underripe. And don't worry, fruit from my home world doesn't explode. I give Five their piece of fruit and show them how to peel it. "Wait, this isn't going to taste as bad as last time, right?" I shake my head at Five and then shrug my shoulders. "I'm not sure, it's my first time trying it, but if it does then I'm going to stick to collecting fruit from this world the hard way and hopefully we won't have to eat any nasty fruit anymore. Although I don't know if you should be concerned since you kind of eat smooth pebbles or rocks." I brace myself and count to three and then take the biggest bite I can. It instantly melts in my mouth and brings memories of all the jokes one can make that come with eating all amazing bananas. Seeing me bite the fruit, Five also bites their banana and then starts making squealing noises as they bounce around munching what I assume happily on the fruit. "This is so good, it tastes sweet but like not sweet and amazing all at the same time. Although Five must say they were quite concerned and do not like the stringy bits, the rest is amazing! Five must know what this fruit is called so that they can ask for more!" I laugh a bit and told them all I knew about banana. "If I made you a decent amount of bananas, do you think you would be able to guard me and make sure that when I evolve nothing happens to me for the next two days? I wouldn't want to find out what would happen of I get interrupted while evolving."

"Five thinks you have a deal, although five isn't the strongest, Five will try their best to keep you safe." I nod my head at five and then begin helping the tree to create two more bushels of bananas, that should hold them off since each bushel seems to be about 20-30 bananas a piece. "Don't worry about being super strong, I have a few ideas to help me stay safe, but I feel like it's still better to have a living and moving protector than something that cant help me unless I'm conscious." On that note I begin walking to the doliage and open my evolution pathway. It's saying that I need to be in sunlight for at least half of the intended time and the other half in complete darkness, how will that work. If I'm not conscious I can't move or make any plants to cover me to keep out the moonlight. * You could try and use a weather skill to create a cloud, clouds allow sunlight to pass and sometimes amplify it while blocking most if not all moonlight. Did you not want to try the other evolutions, they are simpler requiring you to either go under evolution while submerged in water for the Cicutian, or to be underground for the Ginsengian evolution. They could be beneficial. *

"No, I don't think so, from my understanding, the harder it is to evolve a certain way the rarer and the more powerful an evolution is. This I know from certain games I played growing up and from my extensive knowledge in fantasy reading!" I walk around the area still wondering how I could possibly go through with the evolution. I can't think of anyway that I can get sunlight, but not moonlight. Why do I gotta be in complete darkness anyways. If I go in a cave, I may still get hit by moonlight since I can't go too deep with my need of sunlight. That also seems to be the problem with everything else. I need something that is open to the sun, but closed to the moon, or at least something that is translucent enough for sunlight, but dense enough to block moonlight. Clouds won't work because they are made of water and both moonlight and sunshi- *Clouds are made of water?* I stop for a brief moment at Systems interruption. "Yes, they're made of water among other things like tiny atomic particles of dirt pollen and so on and so forth. If you can't see it, but it floats in the air, it's probably in a cloud as well."

I snap my fingers as I finally found out what to do. "I can create a giant flower and put myself in the middle of it!" system obviously wasn't reading my mind at the moment because they only responded with a "huh". "Back home we had flowers that opened only at daytime and closed when the sun was setting. That's the answer to my problem, something that opens for sunlight but closes to moonlight, therefore giving me complete darkness! I sit down and cross my legs as I draw in the dirt around me. "Well I guess I should find a pretty sunny spot and start preparing a save place for me to evolve then." I rise from the ground, scoop up five and a few of their bananas and start walking to the clearing in between the trees I saw earlier. As I reach the area, I start thinking about the best ways to manage my powers. With the sun no longer in the middle of the sky, I see that the shadows cast by the trees will be pretty long.
