Master Halden cleared his throat. "We can chastise his highness all we want but still, the Prince's actions cannot go unaddressed. He endangered the stability of the games and brought shame to this court."
I wanted to laugh, but I didn't. Instead, I said, "You talk about stability, but what about justice? What about protecting the people who put their lives on the line for your games?"
Lord Sedimo shook his head, lips curling. "They knew what they were getting into. This is war, Your highness. And justice… Justice would be an apology to my ward. A formal one. Your father's court deserves nothing less."
I met his eyes. "No."
The word landed like a stone in a pond. Ripples moved through the council. No one expected me to refuse. I saw the shock, the confusion, the anger.
The King stood, his robes sweeping around him like storm clouds. "You refuse to apologize to Lord Gavron Sedimo's ward?"
