Chapter 9 - The Price I'm willing to pay

 CHAPTER 9

LEONARDO'S POV

Isla stared at me like I was crazy. She didn't need to say anything but I could tell what she was thinking. "What the fuck?" It was written on her face and I swear it is very, very obvious.

I was not surprised to receive that kind of expression from her, I had thought it was worse than that expression. I thought she would hit me hard in the face and call me a crazy pervert but thank god she is chill.

I would be surprised if a guy who told me he hated me and sacked me on the first day asked me to marry him the next day. I mean who the fuck does that? I had no idea why I asked her that but she seemed to be the perfect woman to be my contracted wife.

Of course, I hate her with all my heart and I don't want her anywhere close to me but she is still the perfect candidate. She hates me, so there won't be any crazy feelings along the line, she has no idea about the mafia world and has no connection in the mafia world so I won't be having any unnecessary enemies.

She happens to be an orphan so no family connection or attachment lastly she needs money which means my offer would be tempting to her. These are all her advantages and there is no disadvantage except the fact that I can't stand her. I could try to tolerate her presence for the time being.

You can say, I have done my assignment on her. Although I had no idea that I would need a wife in the next three days, I made a background check on her and also asked one of my men to follow her.

Before she came in he had reported that she had been threatened by her creditors this morning and had promised to pay back. I have no idea if she had the money to pay them both. This was a good opportunity to make a deal with her.

I could have any woman I want on this earth with my good looks and of course, my money and the best way to have a woman is by money. Using my good looks will only be burdensome. I hate it when women trip and fall in love with me and as long as I'm concerned no woman will be able to resist my charms. But Isla, who by the way hates me since she is tasteless, happens to be in a debt she can't pay.

"What the fuck? Is this some kind of a joke?" she asked, finally finding her voice. She had been watching me for the past five minutes without saying anything.

"I guess you were dumbstruck?" I answered and she scoffed.

"Of course I was, why would you joke around with something like that? Why will I get married to someone like you? I hate you!" she responded, chuckling, and I frowned.

"What is wrong with someone like me?" I was a bit annoyed by her statement. Why would I also want to have anything to do with her?

"The feeling is mutual but I wasn't joking when I asked you to marry me" I informed and her brows knot in confusion. The smile on her face completely disappeared as she stared at me blankly.

"Stop kidding me! We are not even friends. How do you expect me to marry you? Are you doing all this to frustrate me and make me leave the job? Is this your way of revenge?" she yelled angrily and I smirked.

She sure has a wide thought, she thinks I would frustrate her all because of revenge. I'm not that childish, my revenge always takes blood.

"Fifty million dollars and a new fashion company under your name" I announced and she went mute.

"What?" she muttered.

Cat got her tongue now? Does she suddenly have no more words?

Of course, she would go mute because of the money, that is all she needs. I got to the top only because I knew how to bargain. Nobody says no to cool cash, not when they are desperately in need of it.

Your greatest enemy becomes your ally once you can give them what they want.

"That is the price I would pay if you are willing to be my wife. That would be enough to pay up your loans and start a new life" I answered and her eyes darkened.

"Did you run a background check on me?" she asked and I let out a sigh.

"Sort of" I shrug and walk back to the seat. I sat down brought out the drafted contract and placed it on the table.

She stood ridge to the stop as she tried to process what was going on.

"It's simple Isla, we both hate each other I know. I don't want any relationship with any woman and I need to get married in the next three days. You are the best candidate, you have zero feelings for me and I'm sure you would be able to follow the simple rule of no strings attached. And you know…" I paused waiting for her reaction but she was unreadable.

"You need the money, and I need a wife. We both get want we want" I continued and she let out a deep sigh.

"Until when? How long do I need to be stuck with you?" she asked and I chuckled lightly.

Of course, she would take the bait. Money never fails me.

"Till I become the leader of the De Luca empire" I answered and her eyes widened in shock.

Becoming the heir automatically means I would become the leader but that doesn't mean I would let her go. Dad could be very tricky most times and I don't want to be a victim of his crazy trick.

So becoming the leader would be safer to cut off the deal.
