As they walked, Lucien fell into step beside her. "You need to forget about him, Emerald."
She stopped abruptly, turning to face him with anger flashing in her eyes. "Excuse me?"
"Adrien. I don't know what happened between you two when you were both away, but whatever it is, you need to let it go. He's made his choice."
"I don't know what you're talking about," Emerald said defensively, feeling exposed.
"Don't play games with me. I see the way you look at him, the way you're hurting. It's not worth it."
"There was nothing to it," Emerald snapped. "It was just a contractual relationship anyway. He was one of my mates, nothing more. I'm fine."
