The steel door slammed shut with a loud clang, sealing us off. I could hear Jin's footsteps echoing down the corridor. Each thud felt like a heartbeat fading away.
"What a fool," I thought, gripping my satchel of shock mines. The rough canvas strap pressed against my shoulder.
"Forty seconds," I whispered, focusing on my chronometer. The numbers shone green. "Thirty-nine... thirty-eight..."
Sera was already in commanding mode, giving orders to Clara, but I tuned them out. I had my own nightmare of Crawlers to deal with.
"Rosa," Sera said, breaking through my focus. "Are you sure about going to B-6 alone?"
I shot her my trademark grin. "Don't worry! I've squeezed through tighter spots since I was twelve. I used to sneak past White House security just to show the President his locks needed serious help."
"Ten seconds," Clara called out, typing rapidly on her tablet. "I'm picking up six Crawlers that didn't follow Jin. They're spreading out to multiple areas."
