The sky above Noctis was never truly dark. It pulsed with an eerie glow, silver streaks weaving through a canvas of deep indigo. The wind carried whispers—fragments of voices lost in time—yet no one could decipher their words.
Selene stood at the edge of the floating ruins, her gaze locked on the storm clouds swirling above the abyss below. The clouds always gathered when her thoughts were heavy, their restless movement mirroring the chaos inside her.
Tonight, they raged.
She exhaled slowly, watching as the mist-like tendrils curled around her fingers. This power... this curse... it had followed her since childhood. The dark clouds responded to her emotions, bending and twisting with every unspoken sorrow.
She didn't always hate it. Once, Aether had traced constellations into the storm with his fingertips, calling it beautiful. But that was before. Before the cycles of loss, before the silence stretched between them like an unspoken farewell. Before she learned that no matter how much someone loved you, they could still leave.
A shadow stirred behind her.
"You're making it worse," a voice murmured.
Selene didn't turn. She already knew who it was.
Nova. The only person who had never feared her.
"I'm not doing anything," Selene whispered.
Nova stepped closer, her golden eyes reflecting the storm. "That's the problem, Selene. You're always holding back. One day, it's going to swallow you whole."
Selene clenched her fists, the mist curling tighter around her wrists. If only she had the power to make people stay.
The sky above them cracked, a single streak of silver lightning cutting through the darkness. The storm was answering her. Calling her.
And deep within the abyss below, something stirred. Watching. Waiting.
