When Crystal Foster received another call from Alex Elliott, she instinctively frowned. After her last conversation with Daisy Sanchez, she had been deliberately keeping her distance from Alex. She thought this would make her feelings clear to him, but it seemed that wasn't the case.
With a soft sigh, she finally answered the call.
"Alex, I..."
"Sylvia, what have you been up to lately? Why haven't you been answering my calls?" Alex's voice was cheerful, bright, as if he was completely unaware of the underlying issues.
"Is it your husband who doesn't want me to contact you, Sylvia? I really don't mean anything by it. It's just that we've been apart for so many years, and I've always missed you. After all, we grew up together, and I can't forget those times."
On the other end, Alex lightly twirled the cigarette between his fingers, his words accompanied by a slight raise of his eyebrows. However, the fleeting anger in his eyes betrayed his irritation.
