Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Sol

Who am I?

A question only a person with amnesia or mental illness would ask. I am neither of those things but... I am genuinely confused.

The last thing I could remember was dying in my last breath as I bled to death after I killed my killer. It was quite satisfying to kill that man who tried to kill me but it was also a shame as I died. I also lost to her of all people...

But the more confusing thing is that... that's not the last thing I remember. No— it is —but I have another set of memories too. More precisely... this life's memories.

I remember demonstrating the power of the newest weapons our research department made for helping the frontline soldiers in the war against the Annukaz, a race of extraterrestrials. It all went okay at first but then my most prized work, a ∅-energy fueled weapon or more simply a laser gun, suddenly blew up in my face.

Which was why I am now wrapped in bandages like a mummy in movies and I lost my left hand. Having a stump for a hand feels so odd and also painful. No shit, an energy based weapon exploding is really a disaster.

These two sets of absolutely different memories made me utterly confused and disturbed. They are so drastically different and there are only logical illogical reasons I could think of to explain this.

First is that I possessed someone somewhere. That would have been horrible because I stole their life. Second is that I somehow recovered my memories of my past life after that shitty explosion happened. And last is that I somehow transmigrated like in those novels.

No matter what it is among those, I can only say that one thing is for sure. I am now Sol Nostrad Elvict. A researcher of a country in another world... I think.

Now onto the next most pressing question. Where am I?

It seems like I am now in a country coincidentally called Atlantis, a world renowned city state in the world, in the Mu continent. The center of innovation and civilization. I am currently recuperating at the Royal Atlantean Medical Center near the Iden Castle.

This world is called Terra, given by the former tyrants of this planet, the Annukaz. The current human race that populates the planet right now were all former slaves of the Annukazians. It was only when the First King of Atlantis, Adam, sealed humanity's genetic code did they escape their control.

From then on, humanity fought a bloody battle against the race of giant extraterrestrials resembling biblical angels (they really look like biblical angels based on my memories) and only succeeded in driving them out of the planet 3 years ago after 429 years of bloodbath.

The technology left behind by the Annukazians bolstered the prosperity of humanity these past three years faster than the speed of light (this is an analogy of course). But due to most of the knowledge of the Annukaz not being known to them as they were once slaves, they can't use some of the more intricate technologies they have left behind.

Understanding these technologies is the job of researchers like Sol. Researchers amongst humanity are prized and rare, with there being an abundance of warriors. Humanity itself was a race cultivated by the Annukaz as cannon fodders for war.

With that being said, researchers like Sol are humanity's pioneers. They are the ones that will pave the way for humanity's place among the stars. So this job itself is dangerous. Reverse engineering alien technology is a tedious job that almost always result in casualties due to the Annukaz being extremely careful so that their technology can't be stolen leading them to place fail-safes like traps and such.

Some holophic blueprints left behind are tampered with or encrypted making it hard for them to recreate the technology. The accident with the ∅-energy powered laser gun is an example of this. Due to a mistake and me not recognizing the irregularities of the blueprint it resulted in me losing a hand.

Just as they were deep in thought, they suddenly heard the sound of the door opening. It was not exactly a door as the wall just slid open before returning to place like nothing happened.

"Look at what happened to you now, Sol. Why didn't you listen to me? It was too early for us for that type of technology and you paid the prize for your foolishness."

Sol's face darkened as they heard those words. Sol looked at the person who entered the room. It was someone that Sol hates to the bone due to his hypocritical and two-faced nature. But besides that there's another reason why Sol hates this bufoon. After hearing his words, Sol retorted with sarcasm.

"When is the right time then? When we're scurrying around about to be driven to extinction by those past tyrants?"

The man's face didn't show anything but a smile, making Sol even more angrier. He wore a tight fitting pure white military uniform with blue accents. The material of the uniform itself seems to be otherworldly as it glowed and pulsated like a beating heart.

"Now that you're at this state, Sol. Will you still continue your research? You do know that I'm still here... waiting for you to accept my offer for a lifetime together. I think it's time for you to rest, Sol, you've done enough for our kind."

Yes. This is the other reason why Sol hates him. This muscle brained guy had the guts to ask her for her hand in marriage in front of the King of Atlantis a year ago as his reward for his merits in battle with the Annukaz. He treats her as if she's an object, a prize for him to satiate his boundless greed.

The reason why he was even interested in her was because of her beauty and golden blood. Golden blood is a rare constitution amongst humans and the only other publicly acknowledged person with golden blood in history is the wife of the first king, Eva. So in his eyes he is entitled to having a wife with golden blood like the First King, even though her blood doesn't have much importance aside from being rare.

But the most important reason why she hates him is because Sol is not interested in giving birth to offspring any sooner and this guy is so much older than her. She's only 18 this year and this guy is more that 10 years older than her. In her last life's words, he's a pedophile.

Still, even if she was indeed older and he was younger by a few years, she wasn't interested in guys now. Sol doesn't like guys as prospective partners now that she remembers her past life. She can't imagine being on the receiving end.

Sol once again looked at the man with a cold unfeeling gaze before she spoke coldly without emotions.

"Get out, General Khan. Your mere presence disgusts me and I hope you'll spare my eyes of your visage."

Hearing her cold words, Khan's smile vanished from his lips as he stared at her. He then walked away and went out of the room but not without saying his piece.

"Play hard to get all you want, Sol. I love the hunt."

As she looked at his retreating figure that was soon blocked by the wall as it returned in place, a mocking smile tugged at her lips.

"Can you say the same after seeing my face under these bandages? Hehehe."

" . . . "

After that confrontation with Khan, he didn't visit Sol anymore in the following weeks that she recuperated much to her relief. She can't take being in a room with that disgusting buffoon for more than a minute.

It has been a month since then and Sol finally recovered just enough so that she can now remove the bandages on her face.

This past month, Sol learned more about who she really is in this life. Aside from being a researcher she was also one of the retired Major Generals of the Air force. During the war children were forced to participate in the war to survive. At a young age of 9 she was already in the skies piloting anti-gravity aircrafts for battle.

Sol was the youngest Major General in the short history of humanity. But her rank only lasted for two months before she retired due to their win that successfully drove the Annukazians out of the planet. After that, she focused on researching weapons as another way to help her race.

Although she can't go back to her research work for now due to her injuries, she was allowed to use royal libraries and facilities as reward for the merits she accumulated in her short but eventful life.

"I will now start removing them. Please stay as still as you can."

Sol nodded at the beautiful nurse who started removing the bandages on her face gently. After a few minutes, all of it was removed and she was given a mirror to take a look at herself.

What she saw was a young woman with with burn marks on her face staring back at her with her dark green eyes. It was then that she finally accepted her new reality. He was not V(#;#+:$+ Verzara anymore. She is now Sol Nostrad Elvict, an Atlantean of Terra.
