Chapter 2 - Stone

A clicking sound echoed in the basement as Freya stopped banging on the door, turning slowly to the room.

There was a small bulb that made the room seem even scarier. She looked at the chair were her mother had been strapped to.

Empty.

Shit! This wasn't good, she stood up from the floor as she took slow, cautious steps towards the spot where she was kept as she grabbed her phone putting on her flashlight.

"M-mum? Mum, are you down here?" She asked as she stopped walking looking around the room.

"Hii baby" The voice of her mother snapped her out of whatever trance she was in making her freeze as she blinked numerous times before turning to where the voice came from

The woman looked just like Freya, the resemblance was striking. From her hair, to her lips, skin tone, shape and eyes, she looked like Freya's twin just older and more insane.

"M-mum, are you okay?" Freya asked as her mother, Jane, just shrugged as she took a step closer to her daughter making jane step back another step.

"Are you moving away from mummy?" Jane asked, her voice laced with hurt but Freya knew this was all a facade to hurt her at some point.

"No-no but you haven't showered in some time so it's best I keep my distance" she said as she looked around the room.

Jane wasn't satisfied with her daughter's answer so she pulled out what was hidden behind her back for a while now.

"Is that a knife?" Freya asked her eyes widening as she stared at it, the tip of the knife looked sharp as Jane ran a finger along the blade with a smile.

"Baby, come to mummy, mummy would make you feel good" Jane said as Freya couldn't help but think if this was her end. Anything that she would do now, she couldn't allow her mother get hold of her.

"No"

"No? Oh" Jane smiled not even wasting time as she dashed to where Freya was standing, aiming the knife at her. Freya had dodged her mother's attempt to stab her as she ran to the door, banging on it furiously.

"Dad! Please!" She yelled but no one answered. There was only one way out and that was the pipe shaft at a corner of the basement. She looked behind her at her mother who was already standing behind her.

"I asked you to come to me nicely. But you're just like him, stubborn and oh so brave" Jane said as she rolled Freya's hair around her fists pulling her down the stairs as she threw her on the floor.

Freya scrapped her elbow on the floor making her wince as she closed her eyes. Was this woman really her mother? She asked herself but she knew the answer inwardly.

"I'd kill you and feel your corpse to my lovely pets. You've never been a good daughter, to me you're useless and just a waste of my mental health" Jane said as Freya stopped trying to get up from the floor.

A waste of her mental health? Could today get any worse? She sighed as she stood up fully.

"If I was useless then you're just a witch, mother" With that, she threw a pen straight at her eyes as she dashed towards one corner of the room.

"Ahhhh, freya!"

Pushing the carton boxes that covered the shaft, seeing the rusted cover. She immediately pulled in open the cover as she jumped in, closing it back immediately.

"Shoot that was close" Freya sighed as she looked around the room, this was where most of the pipes in the house were led to. She pointed her flashlight on the floor as she started walking.

After walking for few hours, she saw light coming from one of the corners. She crawled under the shaft as she suddenly came out at the front of her garden. She fell on the grass with a thud breathing heavily, her knees had bruises on them from crawling on the floor.

"You little wrench" the voice of her father startled her as she opened her eyes, scrambling off the floor.

"I told you not to let me in there, she almost killed me, you brute" Freya didn't hesitate to yell at her father, she scrutinized him from the top of his head to his feet, shaking her head as she stormed into the house.

Freya walked into her room feeling tired and dejected. She had thought her mother was getting better but she was so wrong.

The ringing of her cell phone snapped her out of her thoughts. The name 'Stone' flashed on the screen and she smiled softly.

"Hii stone" she said her voice weak but a bit joyful.

"Are you upset or angry? You sound a bit...down" Stone said, stone was a friend she met online and they had never met for once, nor had they ever done a video chat but she was okay with it.

"I'm alright, just having a stressful morning. Why did you call by the way?" She asked a bit curious. Stone only called at night when he was done from work.

"I just wanted to let you know that I'd be changing phone lines and I might not be able to reach you for a while" stone said, he was careful to choose his words so as not to worsen Freya's mood.

"Changing? But you promised not to leave me, why now?" Freya said, her voice trembling as she tightened her grip on the phone.

"It's just for a while, I'd find a way to reach you immediately, I'm so sorry" Stone said as Freya closed her eyes hanging up immediately.

She fell on the bed as tears formed in her eyes. Why was life so cruel to me, she thought. First she had an abusive and nonchalant father, next she had a deranged mother who could kill her at any slight occurrence and finally the guy she was in love with was leaving her.

"Well, I'm all alone"
