Chapter 81 - Madness

"I've failed….I couldn't stop myself….I couldn't…" Raizel spoke, appearing to be out of consciousness.

He lifted his trembling hands upward to his sight and kept staring at them.

"Was I wrong? Why did I do this? Why did these hands of mine end up murdering Liona….She was my friend, so why….why?" Raizel whispered, trembling without a pause.

In his sight, countless bloodstains were scattered on both his hands; Liona's heavenly smile made an appearance in a mirror among the bloodstains, like a little piece of a smile in a world of sorrow. Suddenly, the barrier that was reflecting Liona's face shattered into ashes, along with her smiling face.

"There is no way I'm going to be wrong; everything I did is just for the world, so….I can say I was always right." Raizel shouted, shortly lowering his voice in the latter part of his sentence.

"Then why am I feeling something strange? Why am I hesitating to kill someone with emotions, with the emotions that hurt others, fool others….Why?" He added, indifferent.

"Reiji….Is that you?" A voice appeared from the backside, from the exit of the forest.

The voice shocked Reiji as soon as he heard it, like a shockwave suddenly erupting throughout his entire body. It was the most familiar voice to him, the voice of the blonde-haired girl.

Araya's steps changed the atmosphere, revealing the presence of her steps in the silence going all around. Slowly in time, her blank face made an appearance in front of Reiji's sight.

"Is that you….Reiji? Why is she fallen on the ground?…..Sister Liona? Why? What happened? Why isn't she waking up? Why is she silent?" Araya spoke with her usual calm voice.

"I killed her…I'm the one who did this….I'm the one…" Raizel replied, expressionless as his voice was pretty much straightforward rather than carrying any sort of emotions.

"What happened to you, Reiji….why did you do this to her…why?" Araya whispered, trying to reveal the storm of countless questions lurking in her expression.

Reiji's gaze and voice were lowered the entire time, showing no sign of lifting up and appearing as the mighty warrior he usually seemed to be. Right at that moment, he appeared like a sinner, like a person who was now feeling guilty over what he did. But it was only for countable moments, only to change it in the very later moment onward. He strengthened his expression and immediately glared intently at Araya, shouting with all his might, "I did it because she was in my way; I don't care whoever the person is in my way, but I will kill everyone, every person, every individual who gets in my way. If they can't value me, if they can't understand the way I've brought peace into the world, then why will I keep them alive? If they end up being like all those foolish mortals with negative emotions, then why will I keep loving them? I don't care; I don't want to care. Everything I will do is just for the peace of the world; I will never pause my journey until I draw my last breath."

His voice resounded all across the forest; some birds sitting in their nests appeared to fly away from the forest as Reiji's voice felt like some poisonous aspect to them. Araya kept listening to Reiji the entire time, keeping herself silent.

She remembered something, something she heard from Liona just a few hours ago. She recalled it, "Someone is killing the trees in the forest…but I'm afraid it's not just some trees, but some mortals….Because I saw some trace of blood in there; they're giving some messages I never expected to see."

"It can never be salvation…It's something that I don't understand, but something I don't like either….I don't want to know what this is….but I know...It's the opposite of salvation. Your way of salvation is just a way of shattering yourself, just a way to calm yourself down for a moment; only to meet something terrifying that you don't want to see." Araya said, totally indifferent from earlier. As if what Reiji did couldn't bother her enough to change her expression.

"I don't want to know what is right or wrong to anyone; I know what I'm doing is the righteous path to choose; nothing else can bother me to change." Reiji replied, calm and carefree.

Reiji shifted his gaze toward behind, began to walk ahead following his steps.

Seeing him walking away, Araya ran ahead toward him and spoke a little loudly, "Please, Reiji, don't do it; Please. What you're going after is madness; you are in a world of madness where salvation is nothing but a fantasy for a moment; You're wrong, Reiji."

Araya's last sentence bothered Reiji, "You're wrong, Reiji." Her sentence began to resound in his mind, bothering him heavily.

He smiled carelessly, changing his expression to that of an emotionless individual. Something appeared in his hand; it was a golden long pistol.

He shifted his gaze back upon Araya and pointed his pistol at her forehead. Araya was standing still as a furious and desperate person, looking at Reiji with a little surprise in her eyes. Reiji spoke while pointing his pistol at Araya's forehead, "If the person I love the most has to go against me, then I have no other way…but to kill them."

The sound of the pistol's shot touched my ears, as a golden bullet ran ahead toward Araya, penetrating through her forehead immediately. Her furious and desperate face couldn't hold the expression, losing all of the strength she was holding in her face. Her figure fell to the ground in a matter of a second, as a soulless piece of a figure that will never awaken.

While on the other hand, laughter appeared to be heard from a little distance away. It was Reiji, as it had to be.

"Hahahahaha." His laughter changed the atmosphere, turning the surroundings into a world of vampires where everything seems lone, but chaotic.
