Chapter 1 - Prologue (Dark creatures lurk around)

There are dark creatures hiding in the shadows, lurking and waiting for their prey in every corner.

They could be your co-worker, your friend, and even your lover, but you would never know because the skin they wear is just too 'perfect'.

"Welcome," A friendly male server said, turning away from the table he was cleaning and towards the door with a smile as Lucas walked into the cafe. "What can I get you?"

Lucas was a mid-height young adult who recently clocked 22. He was currently on a hunt for a job when he came across the job vacancy sign board outside this cafe.

He looked at his reflection in the window and brushed his blonde hair with his fingers, styling it in the best possible way he could at the moment, smelled his breath to make sure it was alright as if he were going on a date, and then adjusted his coat.

He was ready. He hoped he would get the job since he needed money urgently.

But he did not expect to walk into the cafe and come face to face with a handsome man who was already robbing him of his knowledge to breathe. His heart was thumping.

He looked at the friendly smile on the server's face, a guy, tall and firm in shape, as he could notice through the skin-tight white shirt he had on. He had skin as pale as snow, brown eyes that could be mistaken for gold, jet-black hair that was slicked backward, and a devilish smile. It was pure but at the same time, devilish, as it could rob anyone of their senses.

In one word, he looked... Perfect. In Lucas' definition of perfect, that is.

Lucas gulped and averted his eyes right away, knowing he was weak to such charms and he asked himself,

'What's a man like this doing working as a server? He could pass on as a model.'

"I'm still waiting," The server said, retaining his pure smile.

"Oh, I..." Lucas flushed. "I came here to apply for the job vacancy." He said, subtly glancing at the server whose eyes were fixed on him. "But if it's not available then-"

"You're hired." He suddenly said, shocking Lucas. He took Lucas' hand and added, "Can you start today? We're a bit short on staff, so..."

"Wait, hold on." The startled Lucas asked, taking his hand back from the server's grasp. "What do you mean I'm hired? You haven't even done an interview or, or... "

"Well, that won't matter. Anyone is fine. As long as they're tall, able-bodied, and can serve customers, I'll give them the job." He said, but Lucas was still kind of confused.

"Don't I... Don't I need to see the boss first? I mean, an employee can't decide this on their own, right?"

"Oh!" Came the server's sharp exclamation and he chuckled. Lucas stared at his pretty smile as he chuckled but quickly tore his gaze away. He was making himself way too obvious. "You might've misunderstood my role here. I'm not an employee," he stepped closer to Lucas and leaned to whisper in his face. "I'm the boss."

Lucas' eyes widened.

He was the boss? Then why was he cleaning tables and...?

"I understand your gaze. But like I said, we're short-staffed. So, anyone will do." He said and leaned in again, forcing Lucas' heart to thump at his sudden action. "I'm Devon, by the way. I hope we get along because we'll be working together for a long... A very long time."

Lucas gulped. He didn't get it and he couldn't explain it either, but he felt like he had walked into something crazy. Something unfathomable.

In this city, where dark creatures lie around the corners, waiting for a lucky prey to cross their paths, Lucas had unknowingly walked into the clutches of a dark creature that no one could mess with... Once again!
