Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: A Lesson in Price

The store's strange aura had begun to settle around Vahn, like a constant, unseen presence that whispered of unseen rules and unspoken power. Each day felt like a new chapter in a book written by forces beyond his understanding. Still, Vahn had learned to embrace it, if only out of necessity.

It had been a few days since he'd faced the Primordial Beast, and Vahn was starting to grow accustomed to the bizarre customers that shuffled in and out of the store. Yet, he knew there was much more to this place than met the eye.

One evening, a new patron walked in—a tall, regal figure draped in shimmering silver armor, carrying an aura of authority and wisdom. Vahn's eyes widened as the figure approached the counter.

It wasn't the man's armor that struck Vahn; it was the eyes. They weren't human, not even close. They shimmered with the stars, galaxies twinkling in the depth of his irises. The man's presence felt like something ancient, a force that existed before time itself.

"Welcome," Vahn greeted, his voice a little shaky. "Can I... help you?"

The man regarded him silently for a moment before speaking, his voice like a deep, echoing melody. "I have come to pay a price."

Vahn swallowed. He had heard similar words before, but something about this man's energy felt heavier, like a weight pressed against his chest. He didn't need to ask what the price would be; this was a being who had seen eons and would demand something far beyond mere currency.

The man placed a small vial on the counter—a vial that seemed to glow with an inner light. "I seek the knowledge of the ages," he said, his tone firm yet respectful. "In exchange, I offer this."

Vahn looked at the vial, feeling an odd mix of awe and apprehension. The vial seemed to hum with power, its contents swirling like liquid stardust. "What is it?"

The man's gaze grew distant for a moment, as if recalling something ancient and sorrowful. "It is the essence of the universe, condensed into a single drop. It contains all knowledge—past, present, and future."

Vahn hesitated. The concept of knowledge had been the underlying theme of his time in the store, but this was something else entirely. A single drop of liquid that held the entire universe's history, secrets, and future? The weight of it was unimaginable.

"The price," Vahn whispered. "Is it enough?"

The armored figure's eyes bore into him. "The price is always enough, young one. The question is whether you are willing to pay it."

Vahn looked down at the vial, his mind racing. He knew something profound was being offered, but at what cost? This was more than a transaction; this was a test.
