Noel stepped out from behind the trees, her face red and her heart pounding loudly against her chest. She didn't expect to meet him like this. Not after her realization. She fiddled with her fingers and glanced at him nervously.
And then there was Ninny who joyfully stepped out of the bush and spoke in a loud voice.
"Hey, Shirou! You're not going to believe this, but Noel is- Hm! Hmph!"
Before she could finish, Noel put her hand on the mouth of the blonde-haired girl and dragged her back. Noel glared at her, a warning to not say anything more. Her best friend smirked in return.
Noel let her go with a huff.
"What's happening between you guys?" Shirou asked curiously.
"It's nothing!" She quickly said, "Anyway, it looks like you've been training pretty hard."
"Hahaha..." He scratched his cheek and sighed. "Yeah. I've been preparing for a battle."
"Against those espada?" Ninny asked. "Are they really that dangerous?"
"They're strong and I can't be too careful." He shrugged and sat on a rock near him. He breathed heavily, trying to calm down after the intensive training.
Noel walked up to him and placed her hand on his forehead to check his temperature. Her face showed concern when she noticed his body was burning up and sweating.
"You're so hot. Rest a bit and drink this." She gave him a bottle of water from her bag.
Shirou took the water and gulped down the liquid inside. After finishing it, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and gave it back to Noel.
"Thank you." He smiled at her.
She nodded and blushed, averting her eyes from him.
However, Noel was never one who showed her expression freely. Her stoic personality was hard to get rid of. So the blush on her face was so faint and almost nonexistent, it couldn't be seen by other people.
"You're welcome," Noel replied, nodding slightly at him.
She then took out another bottle of water from her bag and handed it over to him.
"You can drink some more. It seems you need it." Noel said, "And take a rest. You must've worked hard, right? You need to take a break sometimes. If you keep going like this, you might collapse from exhaustion. And you won't be able to protect anyone like that, will you?"
"Hahaha, I am fine. This is nothing compared to what Ichigo usually goes through in his training."
Shirou's answer didn't satisfy the young girl at all. Noel was still worried about him. Even if it was only half, Shirou still lost his energy from the training. And the way his breathing was ragged showed that he was pushing himself too far.
"You still have to take care of yourself better." Noel said, "It doesn't matter how much stronger you become, but if you don't rest properly, your body won't heal. And that'll only make you weaker."
She spoke softly and gently. Her voice carried warmth, kindness and concern. She really cared for Shirou and his well-being.
"I appreciate your worry."
Accepting her kindness, Shirou sat down on the ground and drank from the water bottle. His breathing gradually slowed down and returned to normal, though he still felt a little lightheaded.
Noel sat down beside him, watching him closely as if she wanted to make sure nothing bad happened to him.
While they suddenly got into a strange atmosphere, Ninny watched the two of them from the side with amusement.
She knew what was happening. Noel's behavior has been strange lately. The usually stoic girl was more emotional than before. And the cause was sitting next to her.
Ninny smirked.
"Say, Shirou." Ninny began, "We found some strange magic signature this afternoon. It's like they were fighting or something. I wonder who did it?"
Shirou didn't even need to think about it and told them about the guests from Soul Society.
Both Witches nodded their heads after listening to his explanation. Just like Shirou, they also think that having more people to protect Karakura Town would be better.
They also felt that it was strange for Soul Society to not send any reinforcement to the real world, especially since they knew the danger.
However, they didn't know how to feel about this situation.
"I guess we'll have to meet them later." Ninny grumbled in dissatisfaction.
Confused, Shirou tilted his head slightly and looked at her, "Why? Is there a problem with that?"
"Wing Bind is essentially Western branch of Soul Society. We have our own way to do things but right now we're in their territory. Greeting them is the least we can do. It's courtesy, I guess." Ninny said.
"In that case, should we meet them now? I don't think they are doing anything right now. We can just greet and introduce ourselves to them. How about it?" He offered, looking at the two girls.
"No." Noel immediately shook her head. "We shouldn't do that right now. It's already night so we shouldn't bother them. We'll go there tomorrow morning. Let's get some rest tonight."
"Alright then."
"Hey, can you tell us more about those people from Soul Society? Like their name, division, rank or whatever? We don't know anything about them." Ninny asked. She wanted to know who she would be meeting tomorrow and prepare for it.
"Of course."
While walking back to the town, Shirou began telling them everything that was said during the meeting earlier.
He told them Gotei 13's structure, how they worked, and their ranks. He explained who was who and what position each captain had within the Gotei 13.
Then, he went on and talked about the people who came to Karakura Town as the reinforcement, their personality, strength and abilities.
The Witches were interested to hear more so they asked many questions, especially Ninny, which was very surprising.
Different kinds of power, enemy, and organization. Everything gathered in Karakura town, creating a pot of mess. The Witches couldn't even begin to imagine what would happen to this town and the world in general if the enemy got their hands on the artifact they needed.
They could only pray for their safety and do what they could to prevent the destruction of their home.
However, Shirou had experienced this before. Everyone gathered in one town and fought for their goal, that was the Holy Grail War in his previous world.
But unlike the war in Fuyuki city, this war would affect a lot more people than just the town itself. It was a global scale war that could potentially affect all the realms, not just the world of the living.
He had no idea what the consequences would be, but he knew one thing; He had to protect himself and his family from any harm.
Arriving at his home, he found his brother lay in front of the door with a blank look. His body bruised with bandages wrapped around his chest and shoulder.
"What is he? A corpse?" Ninny poked his body and didn't find a response, so she poked him again and again until he twitched slightly.
"He's my brother." Shirou replied and shrugged his shoulders. He approached him and carried him over the shoulders. "Thanks for coming today. I'll be going in now. See you tomorrow."
Shirou opened the door and entered like nothing happened.
Both girls stood dumbfounded as they stared at the closing door.
"That was weird. I wonder what happened to him."
"I have no idea. But it seems Shirou didn't really care about him being like that."
Noel sighed, decided to forget about what happened just now. "Let's go home, Ninny."
"Right."
With that, Noel and Ninny mounted their dragon and left. The two Witches were gone in an instant.
