Chapter 18 - 18.Kinetic Chains

You broke cover, moving fast, ducking low, weaving between rusted cargo containers as the Echo Unit's gauntlet fired again—another blast of raw energy that exploded behind you.

He was fast. Trained. Precise.

You needed an edge.

You sprinted toward a group of three incoming mercenaries and let the nearest one strike your ribs with the butt of his rifle. The pain flared—but so did the energy.

A burst of concussive force rippled outward, throwing them into the bay.

You felt your cells shift—like your body wanted to push further.

A nearby explosion threw you off your feet. You hit the ground hard, and pain rippled through your back—but you rolled with it, bouncing up in time to see Spider-Man slam two mercs together with webbing.

He flipped beside you. "You okay?"

"Close to something," you panted. "Need a little more time."

"You're gonna hate me," he said, "but I've got just the thing."

He web-yanked the gauntlet off one of the fallen mercs and tossed it to you.

"Supercharged kinetic amplifier. Might sting."

You grabbed it and jammed the device onto your arm. It pulsed red hot—burning against your skin—but your system flared.

—Melee damage absorbed and stored up to 150% before manual release in an AoE detonation—

Your arms glowed with light. You could feel the force building.

"You sure you know what you're doing?" Spider-Man asked.

"No."

And you ran straight at the Echo Unit.

The enemy raised his gauntlet to fire again—but this time, you tanked it.

The blast slammed into you, but your feet held firm. Your body drank in the kinetic force like a sponge—and the air crackled around you.

Then you released it.

A massive shockwave detonated around you, catching the Echo Unit dead center and sending him flying through a stack of cargo crates. The metal screeched, warped, and collapsed under his body.

For a second, there was silence.

Then—he stood up.

Scorched, cracked armor. Sparks from his left arm. But still standing.

"Impressive," he growled. "You've grown. Doesn't matter. This ends here."

Before he could fire again, Daredevil came from above, swinging both batons and cracking them across the side of his head. The Echo Unit stumbled, stunned.

You didn't wait.

You surged forward, launching a punch filled with copied kinetic force. Your fist collided with his chest—directly into the skull insignia.

The suit cracked. Sparks erupted.

The unit collapsed.

Your breath came in ragged gasps.

Daredevil stepped beside you. "You finish it?"

You nodded, but your eyes never left the fallen unit.

Spider-Man landed behind you. "Okay, now I'm impressed."

But then, something unexpected happened.

The suit's broken chest plate sparked again—and a small projector activated.

A hologram flickered into view—Phantom's face.

He smiled.

"You're stronger than we thought. Adaptation suits you. But it's not enough."

The projection panned out—revealing a room full of suits, all marked with the same skull insignia.

"This was just a test run."

The feed cut.
