Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Episode 5: Memories in Flames

Leo slammed the door of his apartment shut, the echo resounding through the empty space. His chest heaved, his mind a whirlwind of emotions he couldn't suppress. He paced the living room, his fists clenched, before stopping abruptly at the bookshelf where a small photo frame caught his eye. It was a picture of him and Leo, taken during one of their rare carefree moments years ago. Their smiles were genuine, their bond unshakable—or so he had thought.

With a trembling hand, Leo picked up the frame, staring at it for a moment before his anger boiled over. He hurled it across the room, the glass shattering into a thousand fragments. Breathing heavily, he bent down to gather other remnants of their past—the watch Leo had gifted him, an old scarf Leo had left at Leo's place, a collection of notes and trinkets that had once meant something. He dumped them all in the center of the living room, grabbing a lighter from his pocket.

As the flames devoured the memories, Leo slumped onto the floor, his hands covering his face. Tears streamed down his cheeks, mingling with the smoke curling around him. "It's over," he whispered hoarsely, his voice breaking. "I can't do this anymore."

---

Across the street, Leo stood frozen near his car. He hadn't meant to stop here, but something had compelled him to drive by Leo's apartment. Now, seeing the flickering glow of flames from the window, his stomach churned. He could almost hear Leo's anguish, even from this distance. His first instinct was to run inside, to stop Leo from whatever he was doing. But his feet stayed rooted to the ground.

"Why can't I move?" Leo whispered to himself, his heart aching. He pressed a hand against his chest, feeling the weight of his own guilt. "You're breaking, Leo. And it's because of me."

---

Back in the apartment, the fire had burned out, leaving only ashes of the life they had shared. Leo sat in silence, staring at the charred remnants. His hands trembled as he reached out to touch the ashes, his tears falling freely now. "This was everything," he murmured. "This was us."

He leaned back against the wall, his eyes bloodshot. The silence was deafening, the weight of what he had done pressing down on him like a boulder. The past couldn't be undone, but neither could the pain of the present.

Meanwhile, Leo finally found the courage to approach the building. But as he reached the entrance, he stopped again. What could he even say to Leo? How could he possibly fix what had been shattered so completely?

"I have to move on," Leo muttered, his voice tinged with sorrow. "This isn't healthy—for either of us." He turned and walked away, his heart heavy but resolute. In his mind, he repeated the mantra: Move forward. Let go. But the tears streaming down his face betrayed his struggle.

---

The two men, both consumed by their own pain, sat in their respective places, worlds apart yet so painfully connected. The memories they shared were now ashes, but the emotions lingered, haunting them both. As the night stretched on, neither of them could shake the feeling that this wasn't the end—just a

cruel pause in their story.
