Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Changes

===July 6 1992===

Harry and Hermione are in the kitchen cleaning up from breakfast when a pair of owls fly in holding letters. Hermione grabs a couple owl treats from the counter and gives one to the first owl, the owl drops the letter then takes off. She goes to the second owl and it screeches at her. Hermione backs off. "Harry, I think the owl was told to only give the message to you."

Harry dries his hands and takes the owl treat off if Hermione. He offers the treat to the owl who greedily takes it before dropping the letter.

Harry takes the letter and opens it.

Dearest Heir Gryffindor,

My name is Lucius Malfoy, I am the Governor in Slytherin's place. While there are no immediate concerns involving Hogwarts I would like to meet you so we can discuss any future plans for Hogwarts. Please send your response with the owl I sent you.

Sincerely,

Lucius Malfoy; Slytherin's Governor

Harry looks at Hermione's letter and sees it's the same except addressed to her. "What do you think?"

"I think it would be a good idea to get to know him." Hermione answers. "He could teach us exactly what our roles as Governors involves."

Harry nods. "I agree, maybe we can meet at The Leaky Cauldron?"

Hermione nods. "That seems reasonable, I'll write back for both of us." She pulls out her writing supplies and pens a letter.

Dear Governor Malfoy,

This is Heir Ravenclaw writing for myself and Heir Gryffindor as we live together. Heir Gryffindor and I would be amenable to meeting you, we were hoping to meet at The Leaky Cauldron. We are available anytime during the summer.

Sincerely,

Heir Ravenclaw and Heir Gryffindor

Hermione hands the parchment to Harry who rolls it up and gives it to the owl. As soon as the owl has the parchment it takes off.

A couple of hours later the owl returns and drops off a rolled up parchment. Harry gives it a treat then watches it fly off before unrolling the parchment.

Dear Heir Ravenclaw and Gryffindor,

While I don't normally set foot onto the muggle side of London I can understand the idea of a neutral meeting place. I will meet the both of you at noon on July 10th at The Leaky Cauldron. I look forward to seeing you then.

Sincerely,

Governor Malfoy

Richard pulls the car into the parking lot outside The Leaky Cauldron. "Are you two sure you want to do this alone?"

"We'll be fine." Harry says. "It's broad daylight in a very public spot, so I can't imagine anyone attacking us."

"And if they do, we can use magic to defend ourselves." Hermione says.

Richard nods. "Very well, this is your world, not mine."

The couple gets out of the car and quickly take each other's hand as they walk into the pub. Once they knew they had this meeting they knew that their appearance was important. So they made a trip to get special robes that are charmed into pins.. Harry has a lion pin and Hermione an eagle. The second they cross the threshold they tap their pins and their new robes appear. Harry's robes have Gryffindor red highlights near his neck and at his wrists. While Hermione's have Ravenclaw blue. Both of them have their corresponding crest embroidered on their chest.

Harry walls up to the bartender. "We're here to meet Lucius Malfoy."

"Follow me." He says as he leads them to a private parlor.

Harry steps into the parlor and has no doubt in his mind that this is Draco Malfoy's father. The hair color gave that away immediately. Hopefully he treats them better than his son. "Governor Malfoy?" Harry asks.

Lucius looks at Harry and Hermione, surprised to find two school age children when he had expected adults. "I am."

"My name is Harry Potter, I'm the Heir Gryffindor, and this is my betrothed Hermione Granger, the Heir Ravenclaw."

"Miss Granger is Heir Ravenclaw? I was under the impression she was a muggleborn."

"That's what I thought until recently." Hermione says. "It had been around 40 generations since magic had shown in the line."

Lucius nods. "I have heard of such things, though they are very rare. Please sit and order, we have much to discuss."

They sit next to each other across from Lucius. "We're glad you contacted us. We aren't really sure what our duties as Governors are."

"For the most part we don't have any." Lucius admits. "We award special service to the school medals and the headmaster is supposed to report anything unusual to us."

"So were you aware that he had hidden the Philosopher's Stone there last year?" Hermione asks.

"Only afterwards." Lucius says. "Much to my dismay."

"Then us being students may actually work in our favor." Harry says. "Since we were able to figure it out ahead of time."

"I would appreciate it if you shared any such future discoveries with me."

"We can owl you directly, or if we need to we can send a message through your son, Draco."

Lucius nods. "I will have to tell Draco that you two are off limits from his bullying, yes I'm very aware of it. I'm hoping he'll grow out of it. Also I'll tell him to talk to you if he finds anything odd."

"We'd appreciate that." Harry says. "We'd really appreciate it if you could have him stop his bullying altogether. I know that some muggle schools are kicking students out of school for the same thing."

"And that's one of the policies we're debating adding." Hermione says.

"Why don't we start small with detentions?" Lucius suggests. "Since there isn't another wizarding school in Europe that uses English as it's primary language?"

Hermione nods. "Detentions with the Head of House of the student they bully, or the Headmaster."

"That seems fair." Lucius says. "I'll inform Dumbledore that we wish to implement this new policy with the new school year."

"That sounds reasonable." Harry says.

"Mister Malfoy," Hermione starts.

"Lucius, please, no need for formality here."

"As we were both raised I'm the muggle world, we'd like to learn more about the magical world." Hermione says. "We want to be good governors for Hogwarts, to do so we need to know why certain things are the way they are. Why has very little been modernized?"

Lucius nods. "I have a few books on wizard culture that may help you understand our world better."

Hermione nods. "We would appreciate reading those."
