Kaelith was in a total panic at the sight of the empty medicine box, he was worried that his grandpa was going to die.
Kaelith walked over to his grandpa's bedroom and saw him lying there, breathing heavily
He walked up to him an d said to his grandpa, "I'll go to the village and get you some medicine!"
As soon as he turned around his grandpa reached with one arm and grabbed his sleeve and said in a shaky voice "don't go out there grandson, you won't be able to survive the trip there and back in the dead of winter." as tears started streaming down his face he said "I can't lose you too."
This moved Kaelith to tears, and he said "that's why I have to do it, you're the only family I have left too, and I can't lose you either." His grandpa was left speechless, he didn't have a rebuttal for what he just heard his grandson say,
he finally gave in, but he told Kaelith that he had a condition, he said "Grandson, you can go, but you have to take the axe in case you run into dangerous animals or people, the villagers aren't good people."
Kaelith obliged with his grandpa's condition and started packing his things,
he didn't plan on taking many things with him, just his winter clothes, a bag with some dried fish in it, and his axe.
Just like that, he was ready to go.
