The Adventure Guide was one of the oldest organizations around. People from all walks of life came here—to take on quests or to post them.
Whether it was a lost item, a dangerous beast, or a mysterious ruin, the board always had something.
The Guide acted as the middleman, connecting clients with adventurers. In doing so, they earned their profit—and their reputation.
Nyr and Senna stepped through the worn doors of a local branch of the Adventure Guide. This was where adventurers came to find work, and townsfolk came seeking help.
The Adventure Guide branch was an old wooden building with the warm, rugged charm of a tavern.
One side held a large, crowded quest board, where many adventurers gathered—some studying papers, others tearing down quests with eager hands.
Scattered across the room, people sat at rough tables, drinking, chatting, and quietly planning their next moves. The air buzzed with a blend of laughter, tension, and the clink of mugs.
At the back stood three reception desks. The first handled quest acceptance, ID registration, and general inquiries—manned by a cheerful, cute girl who greeted newcomers with a bright smile.
The second desk was for those posting quests. An old man sat there, hunched and focused, sorting through stacks of parchment with slow, practiced hands.
The third was the bar, where food and drink flowed freely. Behind it, a burly barkeep served up hot meals and cold ale, keeping one eye on the rowdy crowd.
Nyr and Senna approached the first reception desk, where a cute girl stood organizing a stack of parchment. Without hesitation, Nyr stepped forward and said, "I wish to register."
She looked up at him, her eyes briefly scanning his face before softening with a friendly smile. "Of course," she said.
"Registration's done in the back. Head through that door—just behind desk."
She pointed to a wooden door slightly ajar behind the desks.
Nyr gave a small nod and looked back at Senna for a moment before striding toward it. The soft creak of the floorboards followed him as he stepped through, leaving the noise of the main hall behind.
The back room was quieter. Stacks of papers and metal ID tags were neatly arranged on a desk where a middle-aged man in a brown vest sat, adjusting his glasses.
He looked up as Nyr entered. "New applicant?"
Nyr nodded. "Yeah. Name's Nyr. I'm here to register."
The man handed over a quill and paper. "Fill this out. Basic info—name, age, race, emergency contact if you've got one. Not that most bother."
Nyr handed over the completed form, and the staff member barely glanced at it before motioning toward a strange, boxy device. "Stand there. Time to capture your image."
He stepped into position. The device gave a soft hum, followed by a quick flash of light as the crystal lens recorded his face.
Whatever it captured wouldn't match any record from even a day ago. His features had changed—subtly but unmistakably—reshaped by the fading influence of divine energy. Even he barely recognized his reflection anymore.
Of course, he was way more handsome than before.
The man at the desk frowned at the screen for a moment but said nothing. Instead, he pointed to a second machine—a pedestal with a softly glowing crystal embedded in its top.
Now, mana signature. Just a bit."
Nyr raised his hand and let a sliver of mana flow into the crystal. It pulsed faintly, then paused in silence.
The man squinted at the device. "No matches. Clean slate. That's rare."
He cast a curious glance at Nyr but didn't ask questions. "Well, no criminal record, no bounty tags. You're good to go."
He retrieved a freshly printed ID card and handed it over. It bore Nyr's altered face and newly registered mana signature, now officially part of the Guide's system.
Nyr stepped out of the back room, flipping his newly printed Adventure ID between his fingers. The metallic tag gleamed faintly in the torchlight, the "F" stamped into the corner still fresh.
"All done," he said, strolling over to Senna, who was leaning casually near the board. "Officially an adventurer now."
Senna raised an eyebrow. "Let's see it."
He handed the card over with a smirk. "F-rank. A proud beginning."
She inspected it, then grinned and pulled out her own. The tag was a little worn, edges dulled from use—but unmistakably stamped with an B.
"No need to Praise me. I know how great l am" she teased, tossing it back to him.
Nyr gave her a deadpan look. "Yes, I know."
"It is what it is," she said with a wink.
They both laughed, then turned their attention to the massive, cluttered quest board before them. Notices rustled in the breeze, their corners curled and ink smudged from dozens of fingers.
Alright," Nyr said, stepping closer. "Let's find something that don't put us in too much danger.'"
Senna scanned the higher-ranked section. "You…you just rised a red flag."
Nyr rolled his eyes "we'll see that."
