Chapter 4 - 7-8

Everyone started off without a name and only had a number.

After all, no one knew if they could even survive the coming days!

At the age of ten, the kids from the same group had to compete in a big survival skills competition.

After the competition, the rankings became their names.

It also decided the path each person would take in the future: attack, medical, construction, and so on.

Everyone had something they were good at.

Paige was the strongest in her group because she had a mental-type power.

Mental powers weren't rare, and the people in Paige's group all had strong mental energy. No matter what field they chose, mental strength was very important.

Mental powers could be developed into many areas, but unfortunately, Paige's talent was fully focused on fighting.

Besides that, Paige also had space-type powers along with her mental powers.

As long as she locked onto a zombie with her mental energy, she could kill it with space blades. After killing the zombie, its energy core would go straight into her space.

She truly killed without being seen, without a trace of blood.

Or rather, killed zombies without any brains spilling out.

Once she became stronger, this skill was very useful for killing many zombies at once.

Later, the base focused on training her fighting skills.

Training meant taking her all over the world to kill zombies and gain experience.

By the time she was sixteen, she became the strongest power user in the base.

People called her the strongest zombie reaper.

Then, a few years later, during an outing, Paige's team was ambushed by the Zombie King, and all team members were killed.

Only Paige was left to fight the Zombie King in a final battle.

This zombie king was very powerful. It was also a zombie with mental abilities, so Paige's mental attacks didn't work on it.

The two of them fought for three days and nights without a clear winner. But no matter how strong Paige was, she was still human. She could get tired. When she let her guard down, her right arm was torn off.

Paige knew very well that the longer the fight dragged on, the worse it would be for her.

In the end, Paige hugged the zombie king with her one remaining arm and exploded her power core. The two of them died together.

Paige had been created for one mission: to protect humans and destroy zombies. That's why she didn't hesitate to sacrifice herself for the greater good.

What Paige didn't know was that this zombie king was actually the king of all zombie kings. When it died, the other zombie kings were also affected and weakened.

The army took advantage of this moment. They attacked with full force, striking while the enemy was down.

Before a new zombie king could take over and lead the others, the army launched a large-scale massacre against the zombies.

The apocalypse that had lasted for almost a hundred years officially came to an end.

Paige didn't know any of this. She only knew that she had exploded and now had a new life.

This world was much better than the one she had lived in before.

The air was fresh. Trees didn't move. Animals could be eaten.

And she had a family now. A father, mother, and grandparents who loved her.

In her last life, she often heard others talk about parents, but she couldn't understand what that kind of feeling was like.

She had been born in a breeding pod and raised by staff at the base.

From the time she could remember, her life was all about studying, training, more studying. After the age of ten, her daily routine was killing zombies, mutated animals, more zombies, clearing mutated plants, and more zombies...

Now, she finally understood what emotions were. What a mom and dad were. What family was.

But in this life, she didn't explode. Instead, her home and her family were the ones who got blown up.

Could it be that she was destined never to personally feel the love that comes from family?

Paige was furious. No, it was all that little devil's fault.

From her memories, she knew that the so-called "little devils" were invaders, not locals. So, they were just like zombies, something that everyone should destroy.

Besides, the devils had wiped out her entire family. This grudge had to be avenged.

An angry Paige stood as the air around her stirred without wind. Even the nearby campfire was swaying and flickering.

"Paige." Winn couldn't help but call out to her.

Paige looked at Winn in confusion, and everything around them returned to calm.

Winn and Uziel were shocked. So, it really was Paige who caused all that commotion?

How did she even do it?

"Sorry, I was just thinking about something." Paige looked at the two of them and said, "You might not believe this, but I've awakened memories from my past life.

In my previous life, I was a really powerful person, but right now, I'm still very weak."

In her past life, her power level had reached the peak at level nine.

Now, she was only at level one, practically useless.

Her spatial blade and other skills required her mental power to reach level four or higher to be usable.

Right now, her space was just a basic storage space.

The only good news was that the space still existed.

In her past life, the space had started out only the size of one room. As her mental abilities kept leveling up, it grew bigger and bigger.

Eventually, it became endless.

But after the apocalypse, plants and animals mutated, food became scarce, and her space couldn't preserve things. It could only store them, so the amount of stuff she could keep was limited.

Even with such a huge space, there wasn't much she could put in it.

Paige took inventory of the supplies inside her space.

The most common things were crystal cores. Crystal cores could be used to level up powers, and they could also quickly restore energy when one's powers were drained.

However, powers upgraded using crystal cores would have unstable foundations.

In her past life, Paige's powers had grown step by step through real combat, so at first, she didn't realize that crystal cores could be used to level up powers.

There were also all kinds of mutated plants.

Because the space was large, whenever Paige came across a herb with special effects, she would throw it into the space.

There were rows of wooden boxes with small drawers. Paige had custom-made them to copy the traditional Chinese medicine cabinets from before the apocalypse.

Each drawer had the name of a medicinal herb written on it, along with a simple description of its effects.

As for the detailed effects, if she knew them, she wrote them in a notebook. If she didn't, she left it blank for now.

This situation almost never happened, because if something wasn't medicinal, Paige wouldn't have kept it. She would've just treated it as a weed and thrown it away.

So far, she had over a hundred kinds of herbs.

It wasn't that there were only that many types of herbs, but those were just the ones she picked up casually while killing zombies during her free time.

There were also things like mutated animal skins, bones, and similar materials.

Far away, there was a small black dot. Paige teleported over and found it was actually a pile of scrap metal, iron junk, and unwanted gold lumps.

Her space was huge, so if she saw something interesting, she just tossed it in.

The most valuable items were a batch of weapons.

The last mission she carried out was to escort a batch of weapons to a neighboring base.

Since she had spatial powers, it was an extremely easy mission. Altogether, there were only two vehicles and ten people.

After she got off the vehicle, she was worried zombies might damage it, so she stored both vehicles in her space.

Who would have thought that such a simple little mission would end up being the last mission of her life?

Paige couldn't help but wonder if this counted as a total failure in a supposedly easy situation.
