Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

That night, Tony did not come back home. Lisa sat on her bed, the whole night waiting for him to come, she would look out the window when she heard any sign of him but all to no avail.

This was the first time he was staying out late, it was so unusual of him.

She kept calling his phone but all the calls went unanswered.

She called the last time and he picked the call, with a little sigh of relief she proceeded .

"Tony I want us to talk about this thoroughly, our marriage can't just end like this. You have to come home so that we settle this nicely" she pleaded.

" Oh come on Lisa, move on, I don't want you in my life anymore, you're bothering me right now. I am busy!" He yelled through the phone.

"Busy? With what? That slut I saw you with a few hours ago?!" She cried out, tears daring to fall from her eyes.

"I don't have time for your childishness. So if you want to contact me, you can reach me through my lawyers." He cut the call.

"Lawyers?" He gotta be kidding me. She grunted after the call cut.

Tears dropped on Lisa's cheeks, the man she ever loved wholeheartedly since highschool is now treating her like trash. She cried herself to sleep till the following sun rose.

She was fast asleep somewhere around noon, she heard a knock on her bedroom door and she slightly shrugged it off, but the knock was a bit louder. She sprinted from her bed hoping for Tony, nearly falling off the bed.

"T- …Tony is that you-" she was cut short only to see her Best friend Alice standing by the door with a half smile on her face. Lisa's smile turned into a small frown, as her expectations were wrong.

"Girl are you okay? You don't look so good! Your eyes are puffy and you gat bags under your eyes, Alice said. "Wait, have you been crying?"

She cupped Lisa's cheeks and thoroughly checked her face like she's looking for clues.

"It's nothing Alice, I'm fine" she responded with disappointment and grief oozing out from her tone. She took Alice's hands off her face, walked closer and sat on the bed.

"No way, there is definitely something wrong here, did Tony say something hurtful to you?" Alice questioned.

"I don't want to talk about it," Lisa murmured on the pillow.

"I am your best friend and I am not going to let you look this hurt and let it go." Alice walked towards Lisa and sat by the bed alongside Lisa.

She couldn't help it but sob uncontrollably upon looking at her best friend. She thought she would be strong but she couldn't handle it.

"Oh Alice, you should have seen how he treated me after his business trip to France, he….he asked for a divorce, just like that!! Like all those years didn't matter to him. Worse, he has already signed the papers." Lisa sobbed.

"Oh my God, you can't be serious! Why would he do something like that, you love each other" Alice pointed out chalantly.

"I thought so too, last night I secretly followed him and saw him with another woman. She did not look familiar to me because I was far from where they were, but something was just off about the whole thing. (Sobs) I left in anguish because there was nothing I could do.. (sniffles) then my car broke down and a mysterious , yet strikingly handsome man rescued me from some goons who almost impaled me-" Lisa explained, she let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.

"Wait wait wait, all that happened in one night? Oh you poor thing, I am sorry you had to go through all that, you would have called me, I would have come to comfort you. And who is this handsome and mysterious man?" Alice wondered with concern.

She had always been over protective over Lisa, she was younger but she always saw Lisa as her little sister.

"I don't really know him, he showed up from nowhere and stepped in when the goons were trying to attack me. I didn't even get his number so that I can thank him properly." She sighed. "I owe him my life"

"Well it's okay, as long as you're safe now." Alice held Lisa's hand and smiled, assuring her that she is safe.

"Right now you have to decide if you're going to fight for your marriage or sign the divorce papers." She spoke softly

Lisa looked up at Alice in wonder, but she did not want to think much about it.

*Alice's phone rang.*

"Let me pick this up, it's my sister Melanie. She came back to this town yesterday and I'm responsible for making sure she gets everything she wants because she is new here." Alice explained as she took the phone from her pockets and excused herself.

"Okay."

Lisa stared at Alice as she walked outside the room to pick the call, wondering what she would have done without her by her side to comfort her.

something felt off about the sudden call but she did not want to make anything out of it.

Alice walked down the hall as she talked to her sister.

"Melanie, you mean to say you were out last night with your ex? Which ex?" Alice asked .

"You know him, my ex from highschool Tony Williams. He actually lives here and we are planning on getting married" Melanie said on the other end of the line.

"You what?! With Tony! He's married to my best friend for crying out loud! and you said you were never into him" Alice half yelled.

"Yes but we rekindled our love when we met in France when I had my business trip. I will tell you everything once we meet, I just wanted to gist you. I am actually with him right now. We are staying at this beautiful hotel and I didn't know he turned out to be a millionaire." She giggled.

"Melanie Thompson!-..." Alice sighed. "She will never change."

With that, the call was cut.

How was she going to break this news to her own best friend?

Worry and panic plastered Alice's face, unsure of what she should do next.

She walked towards the bedroom where she left Lisa, she walked in and saw how devastated Lisa looked.

Lisa folded herself into a ball and sobbed silently.

It was a heartbreaking sight.

"How do I bring myself to break this news to her? But again my sister trusts me with his information." She murmured silently.

"Did you say something?" Lisa asked Alice as she turned over to face her direction.

"Uhm actually….. well .. uhm no, it's nothing, I was just thinking we can do something to scrap off this mood, let's go in the kitchen and make our favorite Chocolate cake, it keeps your mind off whatever is going on… please" Alice said.

She looked at Lisa with a worried look, she did not know what answer would come out of Lisa but she hoped it's a yes.

"Well I guess so," Lisa hesitated a little. "I mean crying won't solve anything right?" Lisa half laughed with a tear running down her face.

"(Nervously laughs) yes- uh sure" Alice responded. Her heart beating against her chest. Hiding things from Lisa was one of the hardest tasks.

Alice fell into a dilemma. Should she tell her only best friend the truth or hide it from her for the sake of her happiness?

"How's Melanie by the way?" Lisa asked as she walked towards the kitchen which was nearby.

"Oh her? She's uhm-" Alice panicked.
