Holly watched, her blood boiling, as Garrett Vincent's gaze helplessly followed Rachel's retreating figure. A wave of bitter jealousy crashed over her.
"You know," she began, her tone deliberately casual, "I wonder how Rachel and Jeffrey are doing. Even though they broke up, I heard they still see each other all the time." She hoped the comment would spark his disdain, that it would make him see Rachel as unfaithful.
But the reaction she got was nothing like what she expected.
The moment the words left her mouth, Garrett turned to her. His eyes were like shards of ice, cold and sharp enough to pierce right through her.
Holly shivered violently, feeling as if every one of her ugly, hidden thoughts had been suddenly exposed under a blinding light.
"Holly," he said, his voice dangerously low and frigid. "You need to understand something. Rachel is the woman I love. I don't want to hear you speaking poorly of her in front of me. Ever again."
