Chapter 1 - End of the rural adventure

HYPERION:

Though the monsters weren't a big deal, their immense numbers were overwhelming, attacking me in the hundreds with their shriveled scaly arms ending in claws. I coalesced.my magical energy on my hand before shooting it as several rays of intense light that vaporised some of the serynxes. The now dazed monsters were easier to kill as I used my hands to decapitate.and squash many a number of them. The monsters soon regained their wit as they began to attack me in a pseudo-organised state, with some of them coming after my face to try and block my view and the others trying to hamper my movement. An applaudable tactic for a bunch of thoughtless chimeras.y beams began to miss them as their little size and high mobility with the surrounding trees made them harder to catch especially with the fact that I was limited in how much attack power I could use in this forest without destroying it completely, which was explicitly forbidden by the inhabitants of this village. I had no choice but to use my sword, which was the perfect tool for this particular situation. After using my magical energy to strengthen the steel, sharpen the edge and lengthen it's reach,I charged at the tiny monsters, cutting them up easily with my sharp blade. Their mobility was now less of an issue now that I had chosen to fight in close quarters and was using magic to enhance my physical capabilities. Jumping from tree to tree,I cut down the little monsters till the very last one dropped dead. After taking one of the extremely tasty fruit and catching my breath beneath one of the trees,I began the arduous task of taking the corpses of the serynxes back to the village chief, which took me an a little above two hours to complete due to the high number of serynxes. "Thank you,my village is forever in your debt for helping us eradicate this poaching chimeras",said the chief. "This wasn't really a charity work,so you can hold your apologies",I replied. "We never see huntsmen here in the outskirts of the continent,so finding someone who is strong enough and willing to help, even if it isn't free,is a blessing of it's own". "Okay",I replied passively before leaving and heading out of the village.

Another town filled with extremely talkative people. I wish there was a straight path with no villages to follow to Cyadne without all these townspeople getting in my way. I know I did you a solid, but that's no reason to coddle me like I'm some sort of pet or offspring. Just as I was on my way out of the village,a lady who looked about seventeen walked up to me; "Hey",she said with a liveliness unfit for anyone above the age of twelve."Are you an adventurer",she asked. Those words betrayed her apparent love for fantasy books, though i couldn't expect much from a young inhabitant of this remote area. "They are called huntsmen, not adventurers",I replied."And why would a huntsman pass through this place, they usually follow the forest to avoid unnecessary human contact.Something I probably should have also done if not for my lack of money",I added inwardly."Why ask",I questioned. 'Did you want to join my crew?",I asked, letting my impatience at her holding me up show on my face."No,I just wanted to know how that kind of life was, because I wanted to be one when I turn nineteen",she replied.I heaved an exhausted sigh before replying;"I spoke to your chief here before taking on this mission. These serynxes have been terrorising you people here for months, stealing from the forest, your major source of food and sometimes even killing some of your livestock without opposition from any of you. The huntsmen organisation is not a school.that teaches you how to get stronger or fight,it exist as a way for the strong to protect the weak and get rewarded for it. And not to sound rude, but if serynxes gave all of you here a hard time, nobody in this village has the capabilities of becoming a huntsman. Even the none combat oriented scavenger wing of the huntsmen whose job only includes excavation and looking for precious resources face greater threats than serynxes,so you might want to stick to anything you're actually good at". After i said that,I left hurriedly bading farewell only with a wave my hand. And after a thirty minute walk from the village, I was back on the path to Cyadne.

I got to the port in Cyadne after an hour of a mix of running and walking through forests and pathways."I want to get to Medes please",I asked the receptionist with as much niceness as my fatigue allowed."That would be a hundred cowries for a carriage and two hundred for the typhoon,at your own risk of course",she replied with practiced courtesy. "The typhoon",I answered as I took two hundred cowries from my satchel. The typhoon was essentially a crystallised ball of magic used for fast transportation. But due to high speeds, only powerful mages who could protect themselves from the damage caused by the insane speed and rough landing used it. After she took the cowries from me,she led me to a chamber with neither a ceiling nor roof.In it were people I guess were the typhoon operators. After a bunch of orders from the receptionist and tweaking of the launcher by the operators,a semi spherical globe was formed. Get in,one of the operators with a hefty build grunted.I obliged, and the globe fully formed as i sat in it.In a matter of seconds,I was launched into the sky, where i had to concentrate to prevent myself from spinning uncontrollably. In below three seconds in real time,I landed heavily in Medes. The landing,or rather crash, did not make as much of a sound as I thought it would.I guess the transport agency used some kind of augmentation on this area.the sphere dissipated after the impact, and I picked up my bag and continued to walk.Luckily,my destination was not at all far from the landing area. After scaling through the thick forest,I finally got to my destination."You look good, how long has it been since you came. You have even grown taller than me now."Said the woman wearing a plain white gown that blended well with the lush green environment and even the fiendish smile she had across her face as she ran to hug me. I hastily evaded before putting my hand across her shoulders."Still with this, you have no friends or lover, yet you still refuse to give me a hug, what are you ashamed off". Pretty sure I don't have to be ashamed to outgrow giving hugs,so how is your lonely life here anyway. Pretty sure my life is so 'lonely' because the only person I have decides to be a nomad",she replied. I'm not a nomad,I just believe that I can truly monopolise knowledge by learning from different places and cultures."i hope you brought really entertaining stories this time",I laughed heartily. "At least let me get in,then I will tell you everything about my journey, mother".
