Su Nanxin pressed her lips together, but the smile escaped anyway. Gu Mojin looked as if she wanted to protest the first two points and defend the third. In the end, she simply reached for the teapot. "At least she has understood something useful."
"I did not say I had learned anything new," Gu Yangjin replied.
The three of them settled around the low table. The scene could have belonged to any family that loved one another, except that every member of this family carried a reputation powerful enough to alter the mood of an entire hall of martial leaders. Su Nanxin poured tea for her wife, then for her daughter, and set the medicine bowl beside Gu Yangjin's cup. Gu Yangjin looked at it with the weary expression of someone who knew exactly what was coming.
"I feel perfectly well," she said.
"I have not asked how you feel yet," Su Nanxin answered.
"You brought the medicine. That means you already suspect something."
