Chapter 15 - 15

"That was kind of you," Jaime mummers, emerald eyes fixed on Cersei as she flits away.

She moves like a dance, sweet and sure-footed, hips a slight sway. Melara stares at the boy she had loved in ignorance and feels pity for herself all the more. The obsession is so evident already. All her hopes had been for nothing, all her sweet dreams of being safe as his wife had been fruitless. He's a boy in love with his sister, and she is just his sister's friend. She is nothing to him. In the books, and the show, Jaime had never even mentioned her.

She was nothing to this boy.

It hurt her, to her complete and utter despair and confusion.

Her heart actually twisted and felt like it was sinking in her chest. His gaze still on his sister.

Maybe I really am Melara, if I truly feel hurt at being nothing to Jaime Lannister.

"I just don't want to see Maggy the Frog. It's ill business to mess with magic," she says honestly, "And Cersei would not take my reluctance well. So I will go to Lady Joanna, and Cersei will not bother me for it."

She thinks this is the most she has ever said to Jaime Lannister, and really, she feels like giving the girl before the Well a proper pity party for that fact. Jaime blinks, emerald eyes were wide. Finally, finally he looks at her.

And his eyes are not sweet nor warm. They narrow in anger.

"Did you manipulate my sister?!" his voice is a demand, his fury all so quick.

She frowns. You could be great. You save King's Landing. All you ever wanted to be was a hero, and all you became was someone everyone disdained for. Her back hurts. Her heart hurts for this boy. He would die clinging to Cersei as the world crumbled around them if Game of Thrones was accurate for this version of Westeros. His children dead, his love soured beyond repair-

Melara has so much to do and already she is so fucking tired.

She has no time for Jaime Lannister. She cannot waste any of her emotions or her will on him.

Not anymore.

Not if she want's to change the story she is set to have.

"Forgive me," she tells him tiredly, and she looks straight into his emerald eyes. They were so pretty, and they do not look at me kindly, "I am tired, Lord Jaime, and I do not feel well. If I manipulated Cersei, it was not meant with malice."

He stares at her, brows furrowed. His eyes go across her face, and she wonders how much she had wanted his attention like this. But it isn't for her. It's for Cersei.

Everything is for Cersei.

Even her life had been meant to be a footnote in Cersei's.

No more.

"Mother should be in her solar, just off the Great Hall. Don't manipulate Cersei again. I mean it, my Lady."

Melara wonders if he even knows her name. She does not think he does. She sighs.

"Of course, my Lord," she says softly.

She walks away. She feels his eyes on her back like a physical weight. It seems she has finally gotten Jaime Lannister's attention.

Too little, too fucking late, sister-fucker.
