There was an uproar in the ballroom. Before the Queen could say anything else, Aidan's arm tightened protectively around Anna, and he surged forward, pulling her with him.
Without a word, he turned sharply toward a side door, his grip firm but not rough. Anna stumbled slightly to keep up, her heels clicking against the polished floor, heart pounding.
He flung open the door and pulled her inside.
As soon as the door was closed, Anna yanked her hands free from his grip.
They stared at each other in silence. Anna was feeling a whole lot of emotions reeling through her; betrayal, hurt, disappointment, and anger.
Aidan was fake after all. He wasn't the simple man she fell in love with.
She remembered the image she had seen on his secret tablet the other day. That image had come to life right in front of her. The man with those cold eyes was standing right in front of her right now.
"So this was all a game?" Anna asked, with folded arms across her bosom.
