Chapter 4 - To Be A Hero: Ch.4

"We need to talk," Superman began as he walked closer and I looked at him before turning to the others as Kaldur spoke up.

"We'll be waiting for you in the living area."

"Sure, see you guys later," I said with a smile and they all walked away, with Ms. Martian looking a bit confused and concerned as she followed after them before I turned back to the Man of Steel.

"We'll await you at the Watchtower," Batman said to Superman and he nodded as they all vanished, leaving the two of us alone in the entrance room as we looked at each other.

"So…", He began awkwardly as he looked away and I rolled my eyes while placing my hands in my jacket pockets.

"Listen, you don't have to apologize, okay?", I said before shaking my head as he looked a bit surprised.

"I understand that you probably felt shocked when you first saw me and you've been trying to push away those emotions because you don't want to deal with what you're feeling, but that's okay. To be honest, I would done the exact same if I saw my nemesis making a hybrid clone out of both our DNA."

"I do want to apologize, mostly because I was angry at Luthor and realized that you…you probably never wanted this life. You're being hurt by it just as much as I am and didn't want to get caught in the middle of whatever feud Lex and I have got going on now," He answered and I smiled before shaking my head.

"Not particularly. While it is true that I may not have want this life, I have to admit that being half Kryptonian is quite fun…even if I don't have all of the abilities," I muttered and he frowned before speaking.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Well, I have the super strength, the speed, the durability and the super senses of a lesser Kryptonian, but the flight, x-ray vision and heat vision are not there."

"That…would be impossible. Even if you are just half-Kryptonian, those should still be there," He said as his frown deepened and I just gave a helpless shrug in response.

"Hey, I'm about as clueless about it as you are. All I know is that those were everything I could do while fighting against you."

"Well, have you tried to fly?", He asked and I went to respond before blinking as I remembered that I…have not.

"…No, not at all."

"What about heat vision? Have you tried to do that?"

"That's a no too. Are you saying that if I do this…?", I trailed off as I was still a bit unsure and the Kryptonian shrugged while crossing his arms.

"There's always a chance, but you'll have to test those another time. Actually, I do believe that if you are free, I may take you to the Fortress of Solitude."

"Wait, really?", I asked in shock, having faint memories of seeing it in some of the very few DC cartoons I've watched and the man smiled and nodded.

"Of course. Once we put you into the medical pods, they'll be able to figure it out and you'll be right as rain after they're done."

"…Thank you!", I exclaimed as I wrapped my arms around the man and lifted him up with a bear hug, Superman looking surprised as I swung him from side to side before blinking as he tapped me on the shoulder.

"I'm guessing this means you've forgiven me?", He asked and I gave a slightly embarrassed smile as I put him back down and cleared my throat.

"A-Ahem, right. Sorry for that and yes, you are entirely forgiven."

"Wonderful. So…what are we exactly?"

"You wanna be my dad?", I asked and burst out with laughter as he paled slightly and rapidly shook his head.

"Lois would kill me. O-Oh, right, Lois Lane is my wife and she would kill me if I came home with a son."

"Okay, then. We'll be…cousins and you can be my mentor. How does that sound?", I asked with a hand held out and he chuckled as he nodded and shook it.

"That sounds wonderful. Let me know when you have time and we go pay the medical technology of the Fortress a visit."

"Will do, Supes," I said with a nod and snickered at his look for his nickname before he vanished through the Zeta-tubes.

"Ah, that just feels…good," I muttered with a smile and a deep breath before shaking my head as I began making my way towards the living area…which I do not know where it is.

"…I should have asked. Wait a second, I have super hearing. What am I worried about?"

"Hey, how was the chat with Superman?", Grayson asked the moment I walked in and I nodded as I sat down next to Ms. Martian who squeaked softly as I did so.

"As good as one could expect a chat with your hybrid clone to go. We talked about a few stuff, hugged about a few things and…yeah, that's about it."

"Wait, you're a clone of Superman?", She asked in shock and the others looked amused as I nodded.

"Yep, hybrid clone made from the DNA of Lex Luthor and Superman. These two goofballs and Kaldur liberated me from my prison so now I'm repaying my debt to them by helping them for the time being while I find my place in the world."

"That's so cool," She said through telepathy before she squeaked as my eyes widened and I sat up.

"Is that…you?", It felt weird to just…hear her in my mind as it sounded as if she was talking out loud and yet I could…hear her entire sentence reverberating inside my head.

A weirdly uncomfortable-comfortable feeling.

"Y-Yeah, sorry."

"No need to feel sorry for. This is pretty sweet."

"Wait, why are you two making faces at each other and laughing at some joke we can't hear?", Wally asked verbally and I realize she was not including them as she blushed.

"S-Should I include them?"

"…Eh, let it just be the two of us for now," I said and she giggled before holding a hand out.

"I forgot to tell you since I've already told them. I'm M'gann M'orzz, but you can call me Megan…or Ms. Martian if that's too personal."

"Megan…cute name. Then, I guess I'm Chris Kent since Superman and I are officially 'cousins'," I said as I shook her hand and she nodded before we looked at Wally as he leaned over the couch.

"Okay~ Stop with the smiling, the giggling, the hand shaking and the telepathy! It's kind of both off-putting and confusing at the same time."

"I must agree with Wally here. While you two talking alone with each other can be done in private, it is considered rude to be talking to each other with a telepathic link while in the company of others," Kaldur spoke and Megan seemed a bit sad at that before looking at me in surprise as I patted her hand with a smile before nodding at Kaldur.

"Our apologies, my friend," I spoke and he simply nodded with a smile back before we all looked at Grayson as he spoke up.

"With that being said…anyone got any idea on what to do now?", He asked and we all looked at each other before I spoke up.

"We could explore the cave if there's not much to do?", I proposed and they all glanced at each other before Kaldur nodded.

"That seems to be the best thing to do now while we await Batman's orders."

"In that case, we could go and check out the underground docking bays of the ca-!"

"Why do I smell smoke?", I asked as I caught the faint scent and Megan gasped as she quickly stood up and flew away.

"My cookies!"

"…Anyone wanna bet they're going to be nothing but charcoal now?", I asked as I looked at the others and chuckled as the three boys snorted.

"That's a fool's bet," Grayson answered and I nodded before we followed the burnt smell, arriving in the kitchen where Megan was trying her best to blow away the smoke.

"I wanted to bake cookies to surprise you guys, but…it didn't work out as I wanted them to be," She muttered before I reached over and picked up one of the burnt cookies, popping it in my mouth while humming to myself as I chewed.

"Give me a few minutes," I said as I walked over to the stove, switching on the gas while filling a pot with warm water and placing it down.

"Uh, what are you doing?", Wally asked with a raised eyebrow and I snorted as I walked over to the fridge and took out the milk and some of the chocolate chips she did not use.

"Let me cook," I answered in response, cheering mentally at the fact that I could use the meme while taking out a bowl and filling it with all the chocolate chips and milk.

"Are you doing what I think you're doing?", Grayson asked with a raised eyebrow and smirked as I simply shrugged.

"I think I am doing what you think I'm doing," I said and he snickered at my response as I took out a whisk and began to slowly whisk the chocolate on and off for a few minutes, the others deciding to watch as I waited until the chocolate had fully melted before turning the gas off.

Lifting the bowl and not caring for the heat that tried and failed to burn me, I took out a pair of tongs and began picking up and dropping the burnt cookies into the chocolate one by one.

After rolling them around, I took them out and placed them back on the parchment paper before nodding as I walked over to the fridge and put them in.

"Give them a minute or so and we can see if it's any good."

"Wait, if you can do all this, why didn't you do that yesterday for us?", Wally asked with a narrowed stare and I snorted as I crossed my arms and shook my head.

"You never asked."

"D-Do you really think they'll be okay now?", Megan asked with a slightly hopeful look and I looked at the fridge before making a so-so gesture.

"They'll be edible at least, but I don't think they'll be as good as yours would have been."

"Well, then I'll make you a fresh batch to see if it tastes good."

"I would like that."

"We would like that," Wally chimed in and I looked at him before nodding.

"Right, right. We would like that."

"I'll make you a secret batch," She said through a telepathic link and I looked at her before nodding with a smile.

"I would like that."

"Kaldur, they're doing the telepathy again~!"

"By the tides, this is becoming ridiculous."

Taking a deep breath, I let it out slowly as I stood at the peak of Mt. Justice, having been left alone for the night after Kaldur, Grayson and Wally wanted to go see if they could recruit Speedy while Megan decided to turn in early.

"Hi~"

'Or not,' I thought as I turned around, watching as she floated up and landed besides me while looking out in awe at the island around us.

"Wow~ This is pretty."

"It is and it is also quite calming, especially after the incident in the kitchen earlier," I said with a teasing smile and her cheeks flushed slightly as she tucked a strand of her red hair behind her ears.

"It was kind of a disaster, wasn't it?"

"Oh, it wasn't that bad. A bit sweet, but it was good."

"I still don't get what went wrong, though. I followed the recipe to the last fifth of an ounce."

"Did you?", I asked and shook my head as she blushed while covering her pace.

"Well~ I may have substituted the baking powder for powered sugar," She squeaked and blushed even more as I looked at her before letting out a soft sigh.

"Well, at least the whole cave didn't burn down so that was a good side."

"Right! And don't worry because next time, I'm going to make the best cookies you've ever eaten!"

"I look forward to those, but should I be concerned?", I asked and snickered as she giggled while bumping my shoulder playfully.

"At least have some faith."

"I will…along with adding an extinguisher just in case," I answered and was amused by her mock offence, but couldn't keep a straight face for long as she burst into giggles and nodded.

"That sounds like the best idea for now, but now I might not make you that secret batch."

"Oh, so now we're pulling back on promises?", I asked and nodded with my arms crossed as she smiled and shrugged.

"I didn't promise that I would make them."

"Okay, fine. I promise to not bring the fire extinguisher if you promise to make the cookies. Deal?", I asked with a pinky out and she nodded happily as we did a pinky swear.

"…For the record, I didn't actually want the extinguisher. I just wanted the cookies."

"…Did you just trick me?" She asked with a gasp and I simply smirked and shrugged.

"Like I said, a deal's a deal."

"…Nicely played, Mr. Kent. Nicely played."

'Something isn't right,' I thought as I stood at the computer section of the cave, a slight frown on my face as I looked around at the eerie silence of the cave.

I had woken up from my slumber to fetch a glass of water which was more to a force of habit since I don't actually get dehydrated that easily anymore, but as I did so, I found myself feeling as if I was being watched from the dark shadows of the cave.

While this would unsettle most, I had to fight Superman in constant life-or-death battles so anything that isn't on his level is not something I'm worried about.

'However, things I can't see are things I can't hit and that worries me a bit. What the hell is going on?', I thought with a slight frown as I walked around, my gaze flickering to every corner of the room as I tried to find any sign of the others.

I wanted to call out, but I fell that would just drive unneeded and unwanted attention to myself so I took my time as I made my way towards the entrance of the cave.

"Hihihihihi~!", However, I did not need anything to not know that laugh as I was far too big of a fan of its owner in my past life to not recognize who that belonged to.

'Except, I do not want to deal with him,' I thought with a frown as he walked out of the shadows, dressed in his signature purple suit with the green shirt, the red rose on his breastpocket and the manic red lipstick grin on his face.

"Well, hello~ Hihihihihi~!"

"Get out! You don't belong here!", I was surprised to hear another voice shouting behind me and turned to see a young boy with light brown hair and matching coloured eyes standing behind me whilst glaring at the Joker.

"I don't? Well, if I don't belong, then that goes double for you, little man~", Joker spoke with a sly grin as he stalked forward and I frowned slightly as I walked forward and punched right through the Joker's skull only for nothing to happen.

"So, this is an illusion. Great, so what the hell is actually going on?", I muttered out loud as I raised a foot before bringing it down with a powerful stomp, a shockwave rippling out through the room and dispelling the illusion immediately.

However, as it did so, my eyes widened at the G-Gnome sitting on the slightly cracked computer as its horns stopped glowing and it looked at me.

"…Did you follow me?"

"From…the pod…", I was surprised to hear its speak, but even more surprised at its words, taking a quick look at its body only to raise an eyebrow at the slight scarring on his chest.

"Did I throw a giant boulder at you while you were sitting on the pod?", I asked and winced as the G-Gnome nodded.

"Right, sorry about that."

"Don't…be…Mind was…cleared…"

"It was? Well, I'm glad to hear that, but what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with the others?", I asked as I relaxed my guard and walked over, watching as it shook its head.

"Want to be…with friend."

"That is quite…nice? Yeah, that's nice. Okay then, buddy. Let's get you off of there," I spoke as he leapt onto my shoulder and I hummed as I felt his presence latching onto the back of my mind.

"Okay, ground rules, buddy. No taking control, no controlling my friends or family or loved ones, no trying to control innocent people or show them illusions or anything of that sort and finally, keep your powers under control and don't use them until I say it's okay. Basically, follow my lead and you'll be fine, okay?"

"Okay," He agreed with a nod and I nodded before turning right as I heard Megan speaking up.

"Uh, Chris, what is…that?", She asked, but I was briefly distracted by the fact that she wore a bunny onesie with floppy ears to bed and smirked as she noticed her outfit before I quickly spun as her outfit shifted to a night dress.

The only issue…she may have forgotten to add a bit more fabric around the private areas.

'Well, at least I know the carpets match the dra-Nope! Stop that thought process right now, Supe.'

"Megan, down," I said and heard her squeak as well as the sound of her clothes shifting before I turned around, relieved to see her wearing simple bunny pajamas despite the bright blush on her face.

"Nothing happened."

"I don't even know what you're talking about," I responded and she nodded before gesturing back to the G-Gnome on my shoulder.

"Oh, right. Megan, this is…Connor, an old friend. Connor, this is Megan, a new friend."

"Pleased to…meet you," Connor greeted and I chuckled at her eyes widening at his telepathic abilities before rolling my eyes as she looked excited and the two of them got into a conversation.

'Looks like I've just unleashed hell on the team with two telepaths…Eh, not like anything bad will happen.'

A/N: And we're done with another chapter~!

I keep saying I want to do the Mister Twister fight, but then I saw this on the timeline for the show so I read through the summary of the comics and then the actual comic itself and had to include.

This and the little bonding/ connecting scene between Chris and Megan while the others were out.

Also, the G-Gnome/ Connor is actually Kraig, who was one of the three G-Gnomes that taught Superboy everything while he was in the cryo-pod.

However, don't worry as next chapter is going to start off with the Twister fight and then we're doing the Kobra Venom fight.

Also, yes, I am boosting Superboy's powers, but he needs to visit the Fortress for that to happen so we'll see what does.

Like always, you can go to my Pat-reon-.-com-/-KingCrimsonNova to read ahead on this as well as many other stories & even some that haven't been released out to this site yet. If you want to, you are free to, but if you don't want, all's good as I will still be uploading here. This is just me trying to get some extra cash.

Anyway, as always, read, enjoy, review and until the next one…
