"What was that noise?" Fernanda asked, looking back after hearing two thuds, seeing her two friends collapse on the floor through the door window.

"AAAHHH!!!" Fernanda screamed. "Loli! Tati!"

Adolfo quickly shouted to his sister after skimming the text in front of him and dismissing it. "Wait! Don't move, Fernanda!"

Fernanda froze, hearing the urgency in her brother's voice.

Clara, who had been dozing, jolted awake. "Wha— What's happening? Why are you shouting?"

Adolfo swiftly moved Clara aside and positioned Fernanda behind him. "Don't move, Fernanda," he ordered, his voice grave.

"Loli! Tati!" Clara exclaimed, seeing her friends on the floor. "They're not moving!"

"You too, Clara, stay there," Adolfo commanded. He stood at the door, seeing the snowflakes falling thick and fast. They looked innocent, but he knew better. He'd seen the strange message, and he knew those snowflakes were deadly.

The snowfall intensified, growing heavier by the second.

"What are you doing, Adolfo?! We need to help them!!" Fernanda screamed, seeing her brother just standing there.

"Wait!" Adolfo yelled back.

"Why are you shouting at me? Help them!!" Fernanda tried to push him aside, not understanding the situation.

"What are you doing, baby?" Clara asked, terrified and confused.

"There's something wrong!" Adolfo shouted. "We can't open that door!"

"Think about it! Why are they both on the floor like that? Whatever happened out there, it got to them both. Do you want that to happen to us too?"

"Look at that shit falling from the sky! Maybe that's what got to them both! We can't just go out there!"

Clara and Fernanda exchanged a look, finally understanding the severity of the situation.

"Even if that's true, we can't just leave them out there," Fernanda said, determined.

"We need to do something, baby," Clara echoed.

"I know! But we can't go out there unprepared. We don't know if there's something in the air or if it's just the snow. Why didn't anything happen to Fernanda when she came inside? It must be because she got in just before whatever happened out there," Adolfo reasoned.

"Don't move! I'm serious," Adolfo said, moving to the cabinets.

Fernanda and Clara followed him quietly, ready to listen.

"What are you doing?" Fernanda asked.

"Looking for something to cover myself with before going out there," Adolfo said, rummaging through the cabinets.

The girls exchanged a look, then started searching around as well.

Adolfo, seeing they weren't finding anything, quietly did as the message had instructed. He summoned three gas masks, three rubber gloves, and three raincoats. They appeared out of nowhere, piled inside a cabinet.

"I found something!" Clara exclaimed, grabbing a strange-looking mask.

"There's a coat here," Fernanda said.

"Good," Adolfo said, looking at their finds. "I found these too."

Clara and Fernanda moved closer, inspecting the gas masks.

"Your godfather has a weird hobby, keeping these things here. What was he thinking?" Fernanda asked Clara.

"Yeah, I don't know. He always stores weird stuff, even in his house," Clara replied, scratching her cheek.

"Anyway, these will work. Clara, dress up, cover yourself with the raincoat, and put the gas mask on. Don't forget the gloves. You too, Fernanda, wear the gloves, the mask, and the coat," Adolfo instructed, before dressing himself.

They quickly put on their protective gear and looked at each other.

Adolfo checked that they were fully covered before moving to the door.

"We grab them and move them inside, okay?" Adolfo said. "Be careful of the snow, it can't touch any of you. And for the love of god, don't remove your masks. We don't know if it's the snow or something in the air."

"Okay..." Clara and Fernanda agreed quietly.

Adolfo sighed and opened the door. A strong, cold wind blew inside.

"What the hell is happening with the weather?" Fernanda murmured.

"It's so cold!" Clara said.

The three moved to Loli and saw her body already starting to be covered in snow.

"She's so cold!"

"Alright, you both grab her legs and let's move her," Adolfo said.

They quickly carried her inside and laid her on the floor.

"Clara, cover her with the blankets from the couch," Adolfo instructed. "Fernanda, let's move Tati."

In no time, they had both girls inside and covered. Clara was trying to get Loli to respond, to no avail. "Loli! Loli!"

"Guys, she isn't reacting!"

Fernanda covered Tati with another blanket and also tried to wake her.

"Don't remove your gloves!" Adolfo warned, still nervous. He removed the snow from Tati's neck and checked for a pulse.

The girls watched him, anxious.

Adolfo tried for a while, but there was no pulse. He moved to Loli and did the same.

"They're dead..." Adolfo said, depressed.

"No..." the girls cried, despairing.

Fernanda embraced Clara as they sobbed. They'd been friends with Loli and Tati for many years through high school.

"Sorry, girls..." Adolfo said, embracing them both.

"Adolfo..." The girls cried, heartbroken, as they embraced him.

......

Adolfo held both girls close on the couch until they stopped shaking.

"We can't stay here. We need to get the fuck back to the mainland. Something's not right—this snow, the sudden drop in temperature, the blackout. The whole city's gone dark."
