Aria scanned the terrain. "Two miles north. But if we head there, they'll know exactly where to find us."
"Then where?"
She pointed east. "The ravine."
Kael frowned. "That's a death trap."
"Not for us."
They veered east, the ground sloping steeply. The sound of rushing water grew louder, drowning out the wolves' steps.
At the edge of the ravine, the moonlight revealed a narrow, moss-covered ledge winding down toward the river below. Treacherous. Slippery. Perfect.
"Go," she ordered.
Kael pushed the Councilman ahead, and the three of them descended. Pebbles and dirt tumbled into the black water far below.
Halfway down, a wolf appeared on the ledge above, teeth bared. Then another.
The chase had narrowed to a single path and one wrong step meant death.
