Chapter 91 - Chapter 90: The Frost-Bound Horizon and the Eternal Dawn ( Season 1 )

The imperial metropolis of Gold-Sovereign City remained submerged in an absolute, suffocating quiet.

Where the grand palaces, golden battlements, and imperial thrones had once stood, there was now only a vast, silent expanse of pale-blue volcanic frost. The five million residents and surviving cultivators did not dare to step into the central plaza. They stood on distant stone balconies and shattered rooftops, watching in terrified, breathless awe as the solitary figure in the dark traveler's coat slowly faded into the misty, snow-covered horizon of the Central Plains.

The rulers who had dominated the Western Continent for three thousand years—the Golden-Eagle Sect, the Blood-Shadow Sect, the Iron-Mountain Palace, and the Imperial Court—had been completely erased in less than three days.

The Western Continent had not merely experienced a political coup or a shift in imperial power. It had been subjected to a catastrophic, world-cleansing event. The continent was now silent, stripped of its arrogance, its sect bounties, and its blood-stained ambitions.

Forty miles east of Gold-Sovereign City, the broad stone highway wound through the jagged peaks of the Eternal-Frost Ridge.

Here, the howling mountain draft carried a continuous stream of fine, pale-blue ice crystals. The ancient pine trees along the ridge were frozen into brittle glass sculptures, their needles glistening under the pale, cold light of the late afternoon sun.

Li-Wen walked alone along the narrow ridge trail.

His heavy leather boots made quiet, rhythmically precise sounds against the frosted stone path.

CRUNCH... CRUNCH... CRUNCH...

His dark traveler's coat, stiff with thick sapphire frost, was unbuttoned at the top. His short hair, heavily streaked with pure white roots, fluttered gently in the mountain breeze. Across his broad back, the Pitch-Black Heavy Blade rested quietly in its iron scabbard, its dark steel fully sheathed, resting in absolute slumber.

Li-Wen's physical marrow—now completely fused with his Stage-5 Peak Sovereign energy and purged of all void poison—vibrated with a quiet, infinite density. Yet, his face remained flat, smooth, and utterly devoid of expression.

In his broad left hand, tucked deep inside his coat pocket, he gently held the cracked pink lotus lantern.

He did not use spatial teleports. He did not soar through the upper atmosphere as a Stage-6 Sovereign. He simply walked, taking one measured step at a time, allowing the cold mountain wind to blow past his broad shoulders.

"Brother... Li-Wen..."

A microscopic, faint vibration echoed deep within his inner tunic.

Li-Wen's boots stopped mid-stride.

His dark, void-like pupils—which had remained as cold and lifeless as an ancient glacier—narrowed slightly.

He slowly pulled his broad left hand out from his coat pocket, lifting the cracked pink lotus lantern into the open mountain air.

The silver framework of the lantern remained bent and fractured down the center. The glass was stained with those tiny, dried droplets of dark crimson blood.

However, deep within the core of the pink lotus flower—where the spirit-marrow had been thought to be completely extinguished—a single, microscopic spark of pale-ruby light flickered weakly!

HUMMMMM—!

It was not a wave of spiritual energy. It was the purest, most fundamental law of the Northern Lotus Artifact—an ancient, legendary spirit item forged by the primordial ancestors of the Northern Realm!

The artifact did not rely on physical heartbeat or lung breath to sustain its host. When Patriarch Blood-Shadow's shadow claw had struck Xiao-Yue's small chest at the canyon, the lotus lamp had drawn her fragile soul and final breath deep into its silver core, entering a state of absolute, frozen spirit-stasis to protect her from soul-refinement!

The tiny droplets of blood on the glass were not her dying blood—they were the activation seal of the ancient lotus!

And now, surrounded by the absolute-zero kinetic warmth radiating from Li-Wen's primordial marrow for three continuous days, the frozen spirit-stasis inside the lotus lamp was slowly, microscopic inch by inch... melting!

Li-Wen stood frozen on the mountain ridge.

The man who had faced three Stage-6 Sovereigns without flinching, the man who had casually erased an entire mountain range with six inches of a heavy blade, felt his broad, iron-like hands tremble violently for the second time in his life.

"Xiao... Yue...?" Li-Wen whispered, his deep, raspy voice cracking softly into the chilly mountain air.

He did not hesitate for a single microsecond.

He carefully held the cracked pink lotus lantern with both hands, bringing it close to his broad chest.

FLEX.

Li-Wen did not unleash his destructive kinetic shockwaves. Instead, he channeled the purest, most refined essence of his Stage-5 Peak Absolute-Zero Marrow—a gentle, microscopic stream of sapphire warmth that wrapped around the cracked silver frame like a protective, warm cocoon.

CRACKLE—!

The tiny drops of dried blood on the glass surface dissolved into fine, glowing ruby dust.

The pale-ruby spark inside the lotus flower bloomed outward! A soft, crimson light—gentle, warm, and sweet—floated out from the silver frame, wrapping around the small, ice-encased vault resting inside his spatial void storage!

The absolute-zero sapphire ice vault surrounding little Xiao-Yue melted away instantly, turning into a mist of warm, glittering spirit-steam.

Li-Wen reached into the spatial void with his broad arms and carefully pulled the small girl out into the open air.

Her white sheepskin coat was clean, free of ash or dust. Her small leather boots rested against his broad chest, and her pale, delicate face slowly regained a soft, natural rose-pink color.

Her dark eyelashes fluttered weakly once... twice...

Slowly, her small, dark eyes opened, looking up at the broad, familiar face staring down at her.

"Brother... Li-Wen...?" Xiao-Yue squeaked softly, her small, raspy voice trembling faintly like a tiny bird waking up after a long winter night.

She blinked her small eyes, looking around at the snow-covered mountain peaks, then looked up at Li-Wen's white-rooted hair and his dark traveler's coat.

"Where... where are the bad shadow ghosts?" She whimpered softly, reaching her small, gloved hands up to hug Li-Wen's thick neck tightly. "I... I had a dark dream. A big stone bear fell down... and my pink lamp cracked..."

Li-Wen held her small, light frame close against his heart, resting his cheek gently against her soft, warm forehead.

The pitch-black abyssal fire burning deep within his pupils slowly receded, replaced once more by that quiet, flat, unyielding, yet deeply protective warmth that had governed his soul.

"The shadow ghosts are gone, Xiao-Yue," Li-Wen murmured, his deep, raspy voice flat and steady, carrying an absolute certainty that echoed across the silent mountains. "They will never come back."

Xiao-Yue rested her cheek against his broad shoulder, sniffing softly before looking down at the cracked lotus lantern held safely in his left hand.

"Look, Brother Li-Wen!" She squeaked with a tiny, sweet smile, pointing her small finger at the lamp. "The pink lotus is still glowing! It didn't break!"

"It didn't break," Li-Wen repeated softly.

"Are we... are we past that dark ditch now?" She asked, her small boots kicking gently against his coat. "Can we find those warm honey oat cakes now? Sister Silver-Hair said the central city has big boxes of them!"

Li-Wen looked toward the eastern horizon, where the snow-covered mountain trail opened into a vast, peaceful valley bathed in the golden light of the rising sun.

"We will buy the entire shop," Li-Wen promised softly.

The sun slowly rose above the crest of the Eternal-Frost Ridge, casting long, warm, golden rays across the frozen mountain path.

The pale-blue ice crystals along the pine trees sparkled like millions of tiny diamonds in the morning light. The howling mountain draft died down, leaving behind a crisp, clean, peaceful breeze that carried the scent of fresh snow and mountain soil.

Li-Wen adjusted his broad grip, holding little Xiao-Yue securely in his left arm while keeping his right hand free.

He took a step forward onto the golden-lit mountain trail.

His heavy leather boots made quiet, rhythmically precise sounds against the clean stone path.

CRUNCH... CRUNCH... CRUNCH...

Beside his broad coat, the pink lotus lantern emitted a warm, steady ruby light that illuminated their way forward. Xiao-Yue leaned her head comfortably against his shoulder, holding her wooden flower hairpin in her hand, giggling softly as she watched a tiny snow sparrow hop along the frozen pine branches.

The Northern Sovereign did not look back at the ruined cities, the erased sects, or the silent empire he had left behind in the west.

He walked forward into the golden morning light, carrying his world safely in his arms, stepping steadily toward the endless horizons of the mortal realm.
