"No… no," Duke Elliot whispered, his voice barely audible.
Nancy's face darkened as she watched him read through the divorce settlement.
"What is the meaning of no… I am the one carrying your child. If the court orders your divorce, then so be it," she nagged.
But Duke Elliot was far from her; his thoughts were elsewhere.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Duke Elliot roared, tossing the divorce settlement into Eve's face.
"What lie did you tell them? What malicious act did you perform for the court to pass such a judgment?"
He stepped forward, but Eve did not back down. No—she matched his gaze, her cold eyes remaining fixed on his.
"I said nothing when you went after other women. I was made an object of ridicule amongst women and used as a reference for the wife not to become." Eve's lips pressed together as she stepped even closer.
"Maybe you should have thought about your actions, but then you didn't, and now this is the outcome."
