Chapter 12 - A Seed Of Doubt

The news of Vanessa's fall and sudden pregnancy spread like wildfire through the mansion and beyond. Within hours, the entire pack was talking.

Lucian stayed in her room. Her body was still, but her heart was in pieces. She had been walking down the stairs when it happened. Vanessa, dressed in a flowing silk dress, had smiled sweetly at her, then suddenly screamed and tumbled down the staircase with a loud thud that echoed through the whole mansion.

Now, Vanessa was in the hospital, claiming she was pregnant with Alex's child.

Lucian hadn't even had time to speak. No one had asked her anything. They just looked at her as if she were guilty.

The door opened softly. Lena stepped inside, her eyes full of concern. "Are you alright, Luna?" she asked. Lucian forced a nod. "She's lying, isn't she?" Lena added carefully.

Lucian's eyes filled with tears, but she quickly wiped them. "She planned it. I didn't touch her, Lena. I swear." "I believe you," Lena said. "But others... they want proof. Her story is strong. She has a hospital report. And now she says she's expecting."

Lucian turned her face away. "Alex hasn't even come to see me this morning." Lena hesitated. "He hasn't come to see her either. He's locked himself in his office since morning."

Lucian nodded slowly. Everything inside her felt numb. Later that evening, there was a meeting in the sitting room. Lucian didn't attend, but she stood quietly behind the corner of the hallway, hidden by the wall, listening.

Elders sat with serious faces. Alex stood tall, his arms folded, face unreadable. "If the child is truly yours, Alpha," one of them said, "then this could change everything. That child will be the rightful heir."

Another added, "And if Lucian harmed a woman carrying your child, then she cannot remain Luna." Lucian's heart dropped. The words hit her like stones.

But then Alex spoke, his voice low and heavy. "She didn't push Vanessa." The room fell silent.

"She's not that kind of person," Alex continued. "Lucian has shown nothing but strength and grace since she came here. I may not understand everything yet, but I know one thing, she is not a liar, and she would never hurt someone."

Tears filled Lucian's eyes. "But the pregnancy...." one elder began. "We will wait for another test," Alex said. "Until then, no decisions will be made."

That night, Lucian sat on her bed, lost in thought. A soft knock came at the door.

It was Blue. "Luna," she said quietly, "I saw something yesterday." Lucian turned. "What did you see?"

"I saw Vanessa on the stairs... waiting. Before you came down. She looked like she was up to something. I didn't say anything then, but now, I think she did it on purpose."

Lucian's eyes widened. "You're sure?" Blue nodded. "I didn't want to get involved, but I know what I saw." lucian grabbed her hand. "Thank you. This means everything." Now she had a piece of the truth.

The next day, Vanessa came down from her room in a wheelchair, acting weak and emotional. She held a paper in her hand, a new pregnancy report from the hospital.

Pack members gathered around her, whispering and offering help. She looked around until her eyes landed on Lucian. A small, cruel smile tugged at her lips.

Alex stood behind them all, expression unreadable. "I just want peace," Vanessa said loudly. "But I will not let anyone harm me or my baby."

Lucian turned away, walking back to her room. Her hands clenched into fists. Enough. She had stayed silent for too long.

Later that night, she walked past Alex's office. The light was still on. She paused, then turned the doorknob. He was sitting alone, drink in hand, his eyes lost. "I didn't do it," Lucian said softly.

He looked up at her. Their eyes met. For the first time, he looked tired. Worn.

"I know," he whispered. Lucian swallowed. "Then why won't you say something in front of everyone?"

"Because the pack is divided. And if I act too soon... they might turn against you completely." Lucian stepped closer. "So what do we do?"

Alex looked into her eyes. "We wait. Watch. And if Vanessa is lying, we will find out." Lucian nodded, her heart still aching.

As she left the office, she didn't see the shadow lurking near the hallway. Vanessa.

She had heard everything, And her eyes... burned with anger

The next morning, Lucian woke to strange whispers.

Another letter had arrived. It was addressed to her. Lucian picked it up and unfolded the paper, her heart pounding. There was no name, no signature. Only a single line written in red ink: "Leave before he regrets choosing you."

Lucian stared at the paper, her breath catching in her throat. And then.. A loud cry echoed through the mansion. A servant rushed to her door. "Luna! Come quickly! It's Alex, something's wrong!"

Lucian jumped up and ran. She had no idea what was waiting for her on the other side.
