_______________________________________________________________________
When Professor X left Moira MacTaggert's house, his mind was clouded with questions.
Everything felt surreal.
Did Joseph only teach Moira magic?
And what about that female judgeāKate Mara? Why did she accept Moira's lawsuit with such determination? Was she secretly a Delta-class Mutant hiding her abilities?
Or was she just another ordinary person⦠perhaps Joseph's magic apprentice as well?
The more Charles thought about it, the more overwhelmed he became.
Were Moira and Kate the only ones Joseph had taught?
Or were they just the visible tip of the iceberg?
If there were more apprentices like them⦠then besides Xavier's Academy and the X-Men, did Joseph also have his own secret magical force?
Was he building something much larger than anyone realized?
Just how much preparation has this student of mine done behind my back
"Ughā¦"
The barrage of thoughts battered Professor X like a tidal wave. He began to wonder if he had acted too rashly by supporting Joseph so readily. All he had wanted was to improve the living conditions and rights of Mutants.
But nowā¦
Looking at the situation unfolding around him, Charles couldn't help but feel a deep unease.
It was becoming clearāJoseph wasn't merely pushing for equality or peaceful coexistence.
He was aiming to change the world itself.
And not gradually.
Rapidly. Drastically. Unapologetically.
The sheer scale of Joseph's ambitions left the Professor stunned.
A part of him wanted to seek Joseph out immediately and confront him, sit down and have a serious discussion about boundaries and responsibilities.
But after thinking it over for a long time, he decided against it.
After all, everything Joseph had done so far had clearly benefited Mutants.
There was no real reason to oppose him now.
And more importantlyā¦
Could he even stop Joseph if he tried?
That was the real issue. Joseph had become a force of natureāhis influence within Xavier's School and even among the X-Men now equaled, if not exceeded, Charles's own.
Maybe Moira is right... Maybe I really am too old for this.
The presentāand the futureāof the Mutant race clearly belonged to Joseph now.
"Perhaps⦠I'm really more suited to remain as the school principal."
The thought came to him quietly, unexpectedly.
The night wind rustled through the trees. Professor X looked up at the starry sky and let out a long sigh.
Suddenly, the screech of tires interrupted his thoughts.
A black vehicle pulled up across the street.
Even before the car door opened, a deep, familiar voice rang out from inside: "Charles, I'm from S.H.I.E.L.Dā¦"
But the voice stopped mid-sentence.
Charles had already activated his psychic powers.
A moment later, the thoughts of everyone in the car froze in place.
By the time they regained consciousness, several minutes had passed.
Professor X had vanished.
"Damn it!" Nick Fury cursed, his single eye narrowing into a cold glare.
As expected, ever since Moira MacTaggert's sudden reappearance on national television, S.H.I.E.L.D. had been on high alert. Fury had gambled that Professor X would make a visit, rekindling old emotions.
He had been half right.
But he hadn't counted on Professor X shutting them out entirely.
This was not like the Charles Xavier they used to know.
Previously, even within organizations like the CIA, FBI, and high-level government councils, there had always been channels of communication with Professor X. Despite being a Mutant, Charles had always believed in dialogue and cooperation.
But this time⦠he had slammed the door in their faces.
That wasn't just unprecedented.
It was alarming.
"Find me the new location of Xavier's School, no matter what it takes," Fury ordered, slamming the car door shut with finality. "I want 24-hour surveillance on the ruins of the old Xavier Manor. Anyone who's been thereāeven if it's just the mailmanāI want to know their family tree going back eighteen generations."
"Understood, Director," said Agent Phil Coulson, who had just returned from a mission in the desert. He nodded and quickly got to work.
Meanwhile, Professor X had returned to the academy and locked himself in his office.
The television was permanently tuned to the Global Daily News channel.
Ever since they had discovered that Mutant-related headlines brought in major viewership, Global Daily had become obsessed with Mutant coverage. Any development in the world of Mutants, and they were the first to broadcast it.
What surprised Charles, though, was how quickly the White House had acted.
Just two days later, an official announcement stunned the public.
The Mutant Affairs Bureau was being formally established.
And even more incrediblyāthe X-Men would now fall under this new department. They would no longer be just a vigilante team. They were now a legitimate government-backed organization with law enforcement authority.
Simultaneously, General Ross was demoted, and the Super Soldier program suspended.
To the general public, this looked like a sincere act of reform.
But Charles knew better.
He wasn't fooled.
This was merely a temporary smokescreen. A move to calm the media and the masses.
He knew all too well that General Ross's ambitions hadn't been derailedāthey had simply gone underground. The Super Soldier program, in some form or another, would be restarted. Perhaps even funded more generously now, behind closed doors.
But regardless, Joseph had achieved his objective.
From this moment on, Mutants had officially entered the government system.
This was a victory unlike any other.
And yet⦠it came with a new twist.
Because at the same time the White House announced the formation of the bureau, they also issued another unexpected declaration:
The position of Director-General of the Mutant Affairs Bureau would be open to public competition among Mutants.
"A public competitionā¦" Professor X muttered, rubbing his temples.
"If Erik finds out about this, he'll definitelyā¦"
He didn't even finish the sentence.
Everyone knew that MagnetoāCharles's old friend and longtime rivalāhad never hidden his desire for Mutant supremacy. This kind of announcement was practically an invitation for chaos.
The White House clearly wanted the Mutants to fight among themselves.
Divide and conquer.
Before his thoughts could spiral any further, a familiar voice rang through the room.
"Don't worry, Professor."
With a soft pop, Joseph appeared in the office via magical teleportation.
"The position of Director-General... will belong to us."
Professor X didn't flinch.
He had been expecting Joseph.
He looked at the young man standing before himāhis most brilliant student, and perhaps the most influential Mutant of the modern eraāand met his gaze squarely.
"You intend to take the position yourself?"
Charles's voice was calm, but curious.
So far, Joseph had remained behind the scenes, orchestrating major victories while avoiding the spotlight.
Was this his moment to finally step onto the public stage?
"I'm not interested in playing politics day in and day out," Joseph replied, shaking his head without hesitation.
"I'll be on stage eventuallyābut not for something like this. I'll wait for a far more important moment."
That answer made Professor X frown.
"The X-Men are now part of the Mutant Affairs Bureau. Besides you, who else could lead them? Surely you don't expect me to take on the position?"
"Come on, Professor," Joseph chuckled. "You're better off remaining the school's principal. That's what you're best at."
Charles smiled awkwardly.
"Well then⦠how about Hank McCoy? He's already worked with the CIA, and he was the original head of the Mutant Affairs Department when it existed briefly years agoā¦"
He was referring, of course, to Beastāone of the most intelligent Mutants alive. A genius in human evolution, genetics, and various scientific fields. He was also responsible for many of the technological innovations the X-Men relied on.
"Hank's knowledge is far too valuable to be wasted on dealing with politicians," Joseph replied. "Having him back at the school as a professor will be much more beneficial for our people."
Charles let out a sigh.
Clearly, Joseph had already planned everything out.
He didn't press the issue further.
Instead, he changed the question.
"Alright then⦠tell me. Who do you intend to nominate as Director?"
Joseph didn't keep him waiting.
"You already know her," he said with a mysterious smile. "Professor, allow me to introduce to you⦠the first Director-General of the Mutant Affairs BureauāMs. Emma Frost."
As his words faded, the office door slowly opened.
A striking woman entered with elegance and poise, her every step radiating confidence.
"Long time no see, Charles," she said with a dazzling smile.
It was Emma Frostāthe White Queen.
Charles's eyes widened in shock.
Even someone as composed and worldly as him couldn't mask his surprise.
Emma Frost had once been one of their most dangerous enemies.
And nowā¦
Now she was being presented as the face of Mutant cooperation with the government?
But then againā¦
The more he thought about it, the more sense it made.
Emma Frost had once been one of the founding leaders of the Hellfire Clubāa global network of wealthy elites and influential power brokers. She knew how to navigate high society, manipulate media narratives, and exert pressure in political circles.
In fact, she thrived in such environments.
She was, quite possibly, the perfect person for the job.
But Charles hesitated.
"She was our enemy, Josephā¦"
His voice trailed off as he saw Emma walk up to Joseph and plant a kiss on his cheek.
Clearly, their relationship went beyond just professional.
Charles coughed and changed the topic, slightly flustered.
"And what about you, Joseph? If you're not taking the Director position, what's next for you?"
Joseph gave him a cheeky smile.
"Well... we've got new students coming in soon. Someone's got to be around to welcome them."
Charles burst out laughing.
Perhaps that was just what they all needed nowāa little lightheartedness before the next storm.
