From afar, the Guards of the Black Trident Tower and the Mercenary-Guards who accompanied them did not know what to call the structure the Folk-men had held themselves in.
It was a fortress, certainly, but it also looked like the Folk-men's capital sanctuary. A pagan synagogue. A strange, hybrid of a vault and a storehouse.
Made mostly from the massive head-bone of some long-dead titan, though none could be sure of its kind. Yet it also looked as if it had been shaped by intelligent hands, carved and hollowed over millennia.
The shabby, ruined structures that were set up by them outside the white monolith was clear evidence that many of the inhabitants resided outside of it, but it was just as clear that many, many more stayed protected *within* it.
All in all, the sight of it gave the invading army of Evolves the distinct impression of a medieval bastille and its surrounding faubourg, and they had rained down on it as such, with firery will and steel.
