Chapter 1 - So they were real.

Untouched by humanity, a tranquil forest, dense with vegetation, shelters a multitude of animals; birds in flight, squirrels searching for nuts, bears roaming, and deer drinking from a crystal clear river in a vibrant, spacious clearing rich in plants and animals.

This tranquil ecosystem coexists in harmony for all the animals, peaceful or not.

A herd of deer and several black bears are spotted drinking from the river. The deer are drinking closer to the source, since the bears are drinking downstream.

Creating a hypothetical boundary separating the deer and bears while maintaining the forest's peace.

Soon, an arrow pierced a deer in the herd, shattering the stillness. The herd of deer fled from the body farther into the forest, soon disappearing into the thick foliage. The deer's body dropped onto the ground, producing a muffled thud.

From a nearby bush emerged a tall figure, appearing 6'5, with a well-built silhouette, a compound bow, and a quill. Tree shadows obscured the silhouette, hindering a clear description of its features.

The shadows cleared as he neared the clearing, revealing a man with a full beard, long curly hair, thin eyebrows, and several old, long facial scars; one running across an eye.

The harsh sun had aged him, his dirty, weathered face making him appear 50 years old, though he was only in his 30s. He is wearing a dark green shirt, dark brown pants, and military grade boots. This was Damon.

In the clearing, Damon crouched, drew his knife, and cut between the deer's leg and its main tendon.

Next, he shouldered the deer, traversing the undergrowth until a stone path appeared. This path led him to a large camp with a medium-sized bushcraft house built from wood and a small bonfire a few feet away from the house, on a dirt mound, with moss sealing gaps within the timber for insulation.

The camp was decorated with masterfully crafted bone pieces and animal skulls. The camp also had skulls of supernatural human hunters hanging around his camp upon closer inspection.

"Unholy," a colossal Snallygaster head, sat atop his home.

Damon walked to a nearby tree and hung the deer on it. He also grabbed a nearby bucket and put it under the deer to collect its blood. He put his hunting gear near the tree, gutted the deer, and then began skinning it.

He placed the clean deer skin on a nearby table a few minutes later. After cutting meat from the deer, he reserved some for later, by putting it in a cooler with ice, and cooked the rest for his dinner.

With the meat removed, he deboned the deer, cleaning and boiling the bones, preserving the brain in a separate cooler, rendering the fat into tallow in a jar, and keeping the hooves.

Walking past walls adorned with weapons such as swords and maces, he stored them in a room in his house intended for animal resources.

Entering his camp, he placed the blood-filled bucket down, located a cooler, and opened it to find a large metal container nestled in ice.

He picked up his bucket again, unscrewed the metal lid and poured the blood into it. Closing the bottle lid and the cooler.

He walked back to the deer and unhooked it, carrying it farther into the forest near his camp, dropping it in an area with lush foliage.

On his way back, Damon picked up beneficial berries while walking through the foliage. But a powerful nearby roar and a nearby tree crashing onto the ground with a loud thud caused his pupils to dilate as his body went into fight or flight.

Immediately, he dropped onto the grass face-up with one arm spread out from his body, the other arm close to his body, and his legs bent; he appeared dead.

Very heavy footsteps approached him, each step carrying the power of an approaching storm, threatening to eviscerate him.

Since Damon was close to the ground, he heard the vibrations from the thing and determined that it was around 15 feet away, and took a quick extra breath, then he stopped breathing and closed his eyes.

After a few seconds, the thing was now near his body. It lowered its head and sniffed him. The thing lifted its head, subsequently not being able to find any live prey. It walked away.

The sound of approaching footsteps lessened, and Damon lifted his head just in time to see a massive 1000- to 1,200-pound bear, riddled with old scars that should have killed it long ago, walking through the trees.

He watched as the scarred bear brush pass trees, causing those trees to shake, sometimes falling, watched as other animals, including bears, flee from the scarred bear, and watched as the vegetation in its path get laid to ruin, until he couldn't see the bear anymore but only hear the occasional falling of a tree.

As he watched the bear cause this destruction, only one word came to his mind.

"Óðinn"

Damon sat in that position until he couldn't hear the trees crashing anymore, which wasn't long. He let go of a breath he was holding and stood up, frowning.

He traversed hesitantly across the area, hesitantly touching the destroyed bushes and plants, rubbing them against his fingers for clarity, for what had just transpired.

Confirming that the destroyed plants and bushes are real and that he wasn't high. His frown deepened further.

"The bears around here don't grow that big, so why is this one that big? Is it possibly because of that?"

Damon traversed the forest, putting two fingers on his chin, muttering to himself, and moving his hands around. When he landed on a haunted conclusion.

Soon Damon spotted his camp and entered it, where he immediately went over to his water basin bucket, only to find it empty.

"Oh, it IS cause of that."

Damon went into his house, put on a sword holder, and grabbed a sword with runic symbols on its blade off of the wall and put it in a sword holder on his leg, and put on a long-sleeved black shirt and a cross necklace on.

He walked out of his house and over to the tree with his hunting gear on it, grabbed them, put his compound bow and quiver on his back, and left his camp.

But not before grabbing some special arrows made from the body of a powerful supernatural being and sharpening his arrows and knife.

Damon looked around at the trees near his camp, finding some with some form of a notch on them, and followed them until a crossroads appeared in front of him.

A path leading to the right, with light shining on it, and a path leading to the left, shrouded in the dark.

Damon took the path on the left as he ventured farther and farther into the forest. The sounds of the forest began being drowned out by the deafening silence, as the cold, malicious chill replaced the forest's previous warmth.

The surrounding dark only grew the further he went until it was only him and the void.

Damon never once looked back and kept moving forward with conviction until he came across an impossibly beautiful, bright cyan waterfall that brightens itself and its pond.

Where Damon saw it, Óðinn, the massive 1,000-1,200 pound heavily scarred bear he had previously seen, drinking water from the pond.

Damon aimed at Óðinn's head. With one of his special arrows loaded, he let his arrow go, but as soon as Damon let his arrow go, Óðinn heard it and got out of its way. Letting the arrow get embedded in a nearby tree.

Óðinn, standing 30 feet away, was now looking at Damon with anger in his eyes, and Damon was looking at Óðinn with certainty in his eyes. The tension in the air between the two told that only one would walk away alive.

Óðinn was the first one to rush Damon, with an impossible speed for its size, but Damon rolled out of the way, shooting three arrows at Óðinn, with two out of the three piercing Óðinn's eyes.

Óðinn let out a deafening roar as Damon shot its eyes with the two arrows.

He tried to fall onto Damon, but he missed and crashed down onto the ground with a loud thud.

While the two were fighting, white floating eyes started appearing from the darkness, watching the two fight with glee in their eyes.

Óðinn tried to stand back up, but being bombarded by countless arrows that pierced his skin in rapid succession meant he couldn't stand up.

But Óðinn still had a lot of life force in him; he could feel it, so he waited until Damon ran out of arrows. Which soon approached.

Damon knew he was running out of his special arrows, so he left up on the arrows, which caused Óðinn to jump at the last position. He felt the arrows only to be met with a long, sharp sword, slicing across its stomach, ceasing its momentum.

Making it fall to the ground, letting out a weaker roar, but it got right back up and began attacking wildly, hoping to strike Damon even once.

But Doman has already seen this last stand type attack from multiple animals and supernatural beings before, and easily outmaneuvered Óðinn. Killing him.

Damon walked over to Óðinn's body and got ready to take all its resources. But the white eyes didn't want Damon to go just yet, so they appeared in front of him to offer him a deal.

Damon jumped back as he saw countless white eyes appear before Óðinn's body, and his hold on his sword got tighter.

"Zee Bop Xzous?"

Damon's lips frowned as his hold on his sword got even tighter. The only reason he didn't strike is that the white eyes must have some intelligence to have a language and try to introduce themselves.

Realizing Damon can't understand them, their eyes turned blue as they scanned the surface of Damon's brain to understand his language.

Damon watched as their eyes turned blue, and he felt something in his head, until their eyes turned back to white.

"Hello Human, we have witnessed your glorious victory against Óðinn, the destroyer, and we have gathered here today to offer you a deal to fight supernatural beings in different universes for our enjoyment, If you accept, we will send you to a universe of our choosing, where you can gain the power to defeat those supernatural beings easily, what do you say?"

Damon sat on the ground with his head down, with his eyebrows scrunched and lips pursed in thought. Eventually, he looked up at the white eyes with an answer.

"I thank you for the offer, but I first need to cleanse this world of its evil supernatural begins before I can go to a different universe and help rid it of them."

Damon got up, walked over to Óðinn's body, then instantly turned around, striking the white eyes.

The strike did no damage to the white eye, and their eyes showed extreme anger in their eyes and they started transforming into a creature with no form, with long spikey horns.

"Well, it was a good try."

Damon dropped his weapon, as he knew he was no match for this supernatural being, and then tried to run into the pond as a last-ditch effort to gain some sort of power to defeat the white eyes.

But the white eye's spikes grew out rapidly, and all rushed straight at Damon at a speed too fast to dodge.

Damon heard the spikes coming for him, so he dived to the pond, hoping to reach it. Which he did as soon as the first spike pierced his chest.

"Well, shit."

Then his arms, his legs, his feet, and then his everywhere got pierced by the spikes. Blood spurted out of every hole made in his body.

The white eyes' horns, now dripping blood, retracted back onto their head and dropped his lifeless body in the pond, after they confirmed his death by checking his eyes with their horns, which were cloudy and milky, and watched as his body sank deeper and deeper.

Until they got bored and left to cause more terror.

A few minutes after they left, a neon cyan glow started rising from the pond and landed onto Óðinn's body.

Which caused it to disappear into the light, then the light shot back down into the pond, into Damon.

In Damon's mind, all he could see was darkness, with no sign of escaping.

(So, this is death, I guess all those reincarnation fanfics were just that, fanfics.)

As Damon's memories started rewinding backwards, a sudden flash of neon cyan interpreted it and caused him to shield his eyes.

Only for him to feel the sensation of drowning, causing him to open his eyes and realize that he was in a body of water.

He hurriedly swam up to the surface to see that he was in a large lake, with some large stones in it and some trees surrounding the lake.

"Where the fuck am I?"
