Chapter 12 - "Do You Like Molecular Gastronomy, Alice?"

"This is quite interesting. Extracting the flavour from ingredients with a machine and then reconstructing them? On the outside, it looks like an ordinary steamed bun, but the taste is actually rice. Still, it feels a bit like a strange quirk..."

Looking at the rice-flavoured bun made using a centrifuge, Dylan couldn't help but comment. Then he turned his attention to ice cream made using liquid nitrogen freeze-drying technology.

Though called ice cream, its texture resembled flour. Picking up a spoon and taking a bite, a cool sensation instantly spread through his mouth. The flavour was undeniably ice cream, but the texture was softer and more delicate.

He had to admit, it was a subtle experience.

"Master, try my Colorful Fruit Delight."

Just as Dylan was about to try food made by other project teams, Nakiri Alice's voice suddenly sounded beside him. He walked over to her and looked at the cup filled with colourful, tiny spheres.

"Is this... fruit juice?"

Dylan looked doubtfully at the spheres in the cup. They didn't look like juice at all, resembling more the pearls added to bubble tea.

If this method could be used to create more flavourful pearls, like red bean or coconut flavour, perhaps it could satisfy both types of customers simultaneously.

"Mm-hmm. To be precise, it combines several types of fruits and vegetables like orange, carrot, apple, pineapple, kiwi, and cherry plum."

Nakiri Alice nodded, giving a simple introduction, her large eyes sparkling as she looked at Dylan. There was another small cup beside her; she had likely already tasted it herself.

"Well then, I must try it."

Not wanting to dampen her enthusiasm, Dylan picked up the cup and downed it in one go—though perhaps 'swallowed' would be more accurate than 'drank'.

As the fruit spheres entered his mouth, Dylan used his tongue to pop them one by one, then closed his eyes to savour the experience.

The flavours of various fruits exploded in his mouth, forming an utterly elegant symphony.

It began with the refreshing notes of orange as an overture, leading his taste buds on a dreamlike journey overflowing with fruity aromas. The sweetness of carrot was like morning dew, crystal clear, nourishing the heart.

The blend of sweet and sour from apple and pineapple intertwined like a gentle spring breeze. The fresh tartness of kiwi, like forest sprites leaping about, added a touch of agility and playfulness to this grand concert.

At this moment, Dylan felt as if he were standing in an orchard, surrounded by all kinds of fruits, the sunlight warming his skin, incredibly comfortable, making him want to lie there forever.

"Quite a nice flavour. Did you already know this recipe, or did you just figure it out now?"

Suddenly, Dylan snapped back to reality, looking at Nakiri Alice with a peculiar gaze.

"I just did some simple experiments earlier. The other combinations were pretty average; this one was particularly delicious, so I wanted you to try it."

"Do you like molecular gastronomy?"

Having received his answer, Dylan posed another question. Interest is the best teacher. If Nakiri Alice truly loved molecular gastronomy, then her future training would focus primarily on it.

After all, a person's energy is limited. There weren't many people like him who could simultaneously master several cuisines and grasp all sorts of cooking techniques.

Therefore, if Nakiri Alice liked molecular gastronomy, he would let her specialize in it and aim for the title of Special Grade Chef through that path.

"I don't know... but I think molecular gastronomy is very interesting. You can constantly try new things, and every experiment yields a new flavour."

A conflicted expression appeared on Nakiri Alice's face as she voiced her true thoughts. She didn't know if she truly 'liked' molecular gastronomy, but she greatly enjoyed the process of constant innovation.

"It's okay, you don't need to give me an answer right away. I was just thinking, molecular gastronomy can actually enhance other cooking styles to some extent."

"Let's conduct our cooking sessions in the molecular gastronomy lab for this period. After you truly understand it, then come tell me your answer."

Dylan waved his hand as he spoke. He knew it was difficult for Alice to make such a decision just like that, so he planned to let her understand it first and then compare.

"Master, can you create a top-tier dish using molecular gastronomy? I'm curious... how far can molecular gastronomy really go?"

Suddenly, as if struck by an idea, Nakiri Alice's eyes shone brightly. She was extremely curious about the limits of molecular gastronomy.

"I can try, but I can't guarantee success on the first attempt."

Dylan replied modestly. In truth, with his skill level, even with techniques he had never tried before, he could easily reach the Special Grade level as soon as he started working.

With that said, Dylan glanced again at the ingredients on the table. Thinking about the characteristics of molecular gastronomy, a top-tier molecular dish rapidly formed in his mind.

Break down, reconstruct.

Mastering this fundamental point meant mastering half the essence of molecular gastronomy.

"The flower language of Heather is loneliness, betrayal, and happy love... In that case, let's make that the theme for this molecular dish."

Having decided to cook a molecular dish, Dylan began pacing back and forth – a subconscious habit when creating original recipes, helping him calm down and think.

"Jonah, I need foie gras, ark clams, caviar..."

Suddenly, an idea flashed through Dylan's mind. He quickly stepped forward, grabbed paper and pen, and began writing rapidly while speaking to the bodyguard, Jonah, who stood nearby.

Having worked together for some time, the two had become quite familiar. Jonah had also acquired an additional duty: acting as a delivery boy when ingredients were lacking.

"Okay. Half an hour."

Jonah glanced at the list Dylan handed him, nodded in acknowledgement, and then left the molecular gastronomy research lab.

"What dish are you planning to make, little brother Dylan?"

Seeing Dylan transition from contemplation to confident certainty, Nakiri Leonora curiously approached his side, asking about the dish he intended to create.

"You'll find out soon enough."

Dylan kept her guessing, then shifted his gaze to a nearby potted plant. Growing in it was Heather, a flower abundant in this Nordic region.

"Hmph, being mysterious again. Little brother Dylan is really mischievous."

Seeing Dylan keep his cards close to his chest, Nakiri Leonora couldn't help but puff out her cheeks, speaking with slight annoyance, though her curiosity only grew stronger.

From Dylan's earlier reactions, it was clear this was likely his first encounter with molecular gastronomy.

Yet, his current confident demeanour suggested he already had an answer in mind, and he was confident that answer would satisfy them!

"Truly an out-and-out genius!"

Nakiri Leonora thought to herself, her gaze towards Dylan growing increasingly satisfied, almost like looking at a future son-in-law.

Dylan, oblivious to Leonora's thoughts, was currently asking the owner of the Heather plant for permission. Once granted, he skillfully began picking its flowers.

Heather flower spikes boast rich colours, appearing crystal clear. The bell-shaped blossoms droop downwards like strings of tiny inverted bells, emitting a strong fragrance.

This fragrance was the key to Dylan's dish.

"I need to use the extraction apparatus."

"The extraction equipment is over there."

Dylan borrowed the apparatus from the lab and then used ice to extract the Heather's fragrance, turning it into a small cup of essence water.

At this moment, Nakiri Leonora still looked somewhat puzzled, unsure of what Dylan was planning.
