Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Link's Diary

Link very smoothly entered the dormitory. Just as Link expected, this dormitory followed the same decoration style as the lounge hall earlier, overall, it looked like a small dungeon.

But there wasn't any earthy smell here. The patchwork quilts placed on the bunk beds even emitted a kind of sunlit scent, making one want to roll on them a couple of times.

At this moment, Link's roommates hadn't arrived yet, and the class schedule also showed he didn't have any other courses in the afternoon, so Link was very lucky to have a free afternoon to properly search for information.

This wasn't difficult for him as a former professional detective, especially when he even found a diary under the pillow of the bed's original owner.

Through reading the diary, Link finally gained a certain understanding of this guy who had the same name as him.

The original owner's full name was Link Flamel, a second-year student of Hufflepuff House, and also the only son of the Flamel family.

And now, besides him, the entire Flamel family only had his mother left, Leonie Flamel.

All the other members, including Link's father, were wiped out by the Ministry of Magic for being loyal Death Eaters at the time of Voldemort's downfall.

The only reason Link and his mother survived was simply because the Ministry of Magic didn't want a noble surname like Flamel to disappear just like that.

But as the only son of the Flamel family, Link Flamel had some obvious shortcomings.

He was cowardly, lacked confidence, was not good at socializing, and seemed not to be very intelligent.

Most importantly, he didn't seem to have much magical talent, as the diary clearly recorded that he had once been rejected admission by the Board of Governors, and it was only thanks to Headmaster Dumbledore's intervention that he was finally admitted.

But even so, he was rejected by the other three major houses, and in the end, could only enter the all-welcoming Hufflepuff.

Seeing this, Link was no longer surprised that the original owner was bullied. As a Death Eater's son with so many flaws, not being bullied would be strange.

However, the original owner did have some strengths, for example, he was very handsome.

Link had already confirmed this by looking in the mirror. Though a little chubby, this body was exceptionally tall, with a strong, handsome face, and light golden hair. In the Muggle world, he would absolutely have the potential to be a model.

Additionally, the original owner did have a friend, it's just that this friend was rather special.

According to the diary's description, it was a big snake with a rooster's comb on its head that could speak human language. Every time the original owner was bullied, he would run to the castle's basement to chat with it.

When Link read this part, his scalp almost exploded.

Because he was very clear the big snake described in the original owner's diary should be the basilisk hidden beneath Hogwarts. And the original owner should be a Parselmouth.

Link didn't want any interaction with the basilisk. He knew very well that if he accidentally made eye contact with it even once, it would cost him his life.

But this matter wasn't something that could be avoided just by not going to find the basilisk.

Because according to the diary, the basilisk would occasionally come visit the original owner, bringing some bloody little gifts.

This meant that one day, Link would inevitably encounter the basilisk.

Link suddenly felt a little dry in his throat. He pulled out his wand and cast a refill spell on the empty cup next to him. As the message Proficiency +1 popped up, the cup was naturally filled with clear water.

Link picked up the cup and drank it all in one go, finally calming down a little.

There were now two problems before him: one was the basilisk; the other was the original owner's mother.

If his mother noticed that he was no longer the same person inside, then as a mother, she might do something extreme.

But based on Link's years of detective experience, the possibility of that happening wasn't high.

After all, mothers sometimes don't really care much about their child's mental state. They just want an obedient, well-behaved, and outstanding child.

And considering the original owner's situation, Link guessed that if the mother learned her son had suddenly changed personality and his magic level improved dramatically, not only would she not suspect that his soul had been replaced, she might actually be overjoyed.

That's just human nature.

As for the basilisk, there really was nothing to be done. When the soldiers come, we'll block them with generals; when the water comes, we'll stop it with earth.

Also, according to the diary, it should now be the first year of the main storyline. The famous savior Harry Potter had just yesterday become a proud Gryffindor.

But that didn't have much to do with Link, he actually wasn't too eager to mix with Harry and the others.

That was too dangerous, and too uncomfortable. Let Harry go save the wizarding world in the spotlight. Link preferred to carry on the fine traditions of Hufflepuff House.

'Live low-key, act honestly, and get rich in silence.'

Thinking this through, Link also relaxed a little. Only then did he notice the wand he was holding.

It was a slightly curved short stick, with some bumps on it, about ten inches long, looked a bit like a pine branch.

Link didn't know much about wandlore. He didn't know if pine wands were strong, or what pine symbolized.

But he knew very well this wand wouldn't do. Because it felt way too rough and cut his hands.

Secretly making the decision to change to a new wand if he had the chance, Link then noticed that it was already completely dark outside.

Feeling the hunger in his belly, Link silently thought this is bad, and hurriedly grabbed his wand and ran out of the dormitory.

Following the map drawn by the original owner all the way to the Great Hall, Link didn't encounter a single person.

This made him a bit helpless, dinner had probably already started or was about to end.

Luckily, Hufflepuff House was close to the kitchens. Even if he missed dinner, he could still head to the kitchens to scavenge a bit, and maybe get a look at what those house-elves looked like.

Thinking this way, Link couldn't help but slow his steps.

And just like that, he strolled slowly into the Great Hall.

As the place used by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for feasts and student assemblies, the decoration here was obviously more refined than elsewhere.

You could tell from the countless floating candles and the transparent magical ceiling above.

At this moment, the four long tables representing the four Houses were already full of students, chatting and laughing while enjoying a dinner that actually wasn't that plentiful, the cheerful noise echoed in the spacious space.

This was a good thing. If the event had already ended, then there really would be nothing to eat.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Link, under the frequent side-eyes of the surrounding students, found a seat at the Hufflepuff long table and sat down to enjoy the food on the table.

Only, clearly, someone didn't want to let him enjoy his dinner smoothly, because as soon as Link's hand touched the bread in the basket, a chicken leg bone came spinning in from the side and hit him on the head.
