"Comrade Sienna, the higher-ups want you to train soldiers in other military regions after you're done with the ones in the capital military district," said Commander Zhang.
"I'm not going."
"Comrade Sienna, don't be so quick to say no. With your talent, it's such a waste not to shine. If you agree, your salary will double."
"I'm not going. If there's nothing else, I'm leaving." As she spoke, Sienna was already standing up.
Commander Zhang quickly said, "Don't rush, Comrade Sienna. Tell us your reason. Maybe we can work it out. Also, if you go to other districts, it's all voluntary. You can come back anytime, and travel expenses will be covered."
Sienna turned to look at him and said, "Stop saying things I don't need. I don't want to go. If training your soldiers comes with so many conditions, then I'd rather stop training altogether and just be a military wife."
Commander Zhang quickly said, "No, no, I was just asking for your opinion. Don't quit, please."
Thinking about it, he added nervously, "If you quit, you can't go on missions with Captain Rowan anymore."
Hearing that, Sienna gave up the idea of quitting. "I won't leave. Stop trying."
"Then can you just train a few people for us? They'll be the ones to train others."
Sienna thought about it and agreed. That way, she could relax and go watch her husband's training.
"Okay, but they have to be smart."
"That's fine. You can choose anyone from the district."
"No need. You choose them and just let me know. Don't bother me." After saying that, she walked out of the office.
She was already downstairs when she turned back and returned. "Remember to double my salary. I'm not going, so you're already saving a lot on travel costs."
Commander Zhang looked at her and laughed. "Double it is."
Satisfied, Sienna went home and told Rowan everything that happened.
Rowan thought he could live a comfortable life now. His wife earned more than him.
He still praised her, "Wife, you're amazing. You earn more than me now. I'll just rely on you from now on."
Sienna replied proudly, "Of course. I'll take care of you and let you spend all my money."
In the afternoon, Felix came over. "Rowan! Rowan!"
"What's up? Why are you here now? Have you eaten? If not, go to the kitchen and get a bowl and serve yourself."
Felix didn't hesitate. He quickly got some food and sat down to eat with them.
"Food at your place is always better. Rowan, your cooking skills are getting better and better." He praised while eating.
"You're imagining things. This was made by your sister-in-law, not me."
Hearing that, Felix suddenly looked up in shock at Sienna. "You can cook!"
Seeing his silly look, Sienna didn't respond and turned her head. Rowan said, "What kind of question is that? She's from the same village as me. How many village kids don't know how to cook?"
"Oh, right."
Felix stopped talking and thought to himself, You act like she can't do anything. You don't even let her into the kitchen. Who would've thought she's actually so good at cooking?
After eating, Felix quickly cleaned up the dishes and washed them. After he finished, he went into the room and said, "Rowan, Sienna, I came to tell you something."
The two looked at him, waiting for him to speak. From his excited expression, it seemed like good news.
"Larry, the guy from our old unit, went to prison."
Rowan asked, "How did you know? What happened?"
"I called Steve and Brandon. They told me. He just went in recently."
"This all happened thanks to Sienna. That scumbag finally got what he deserved."
Hearing that it involved her, Sienna looked at Felix and said, "Tell me more."
"Remember when he spread rumors about you? You managed to stop it. But Commander Yao and Political Commissar Wu still felt something was off, so they sent people to investigate. Once they looked into it, they were shocked. He's a complete scumbag."
"Back in his hometown, his family had some money, and his parents were government officials. He often took advantage of women, even raped a few. But every time, his family paid money to cover it up."
"Why? Shouldn't they report it to the police? Weren't the police strict during that time?"
"Wife, a woman's reputation was everything back then. If she lost her reputation, she couldn't survive. Her family wouldn't let her live either."
Sienna didn't understand, but she stayed quiet and waited for Felix to continue.
"One of the girls even killed herself. Her family wanted to report it, but they didn't want people to insult their daughter after she died. Larry's family gave them money, and the matter was buried. Her family were just regular farmers. They were afraid of Larry's powerful parents."
"This time, the investigators had to work hard to find evidence. Later, they promised that Larry wouldn't be allowed to go home and stir things up. They secretly talked to people and finally uncovered everything."
Sienna asked, "How many years will he be in prison?"
"This kind of crime deserves the death penalty, not just a few years. What he did was too evil. He must be punished severely."
Hearing that, Sienna didn't feel surprised. He broke the law, so getting caught was only a matter of time. Especially with these kinds of crimes, there would always be traces left behind.
"Also, his wife only married him by threatening him. She wasn't valued in her own family and wanted to escape. So, when Larry was in the army, she used these things to force him into marriage."
Rowan asked, "That's all you wanted to say?"
"Yeah."
"Don't worry about him. Let's just focus on our own lives. Since you talked to Steve and Brandon, how are they doing? What about the rest of the soldiers from our old unit?"
"They're doing fine. Nothing major. Steve might become a deputy regiment leader, but it's not confirmed. After we left, the second and first company commanders got promoted."
"Good. If there's nothing else, you can head back."
Felix stood up, turned to leave, and said jokingly, "Rowan, you're just using me and tossing me aside."
After Felix left, Sienna said, "Honey, are you upset? Why?"
"I'm not upset. I just feel emotional. One person ruined several families."
"This has nothing to do with you. Why worry about it? Let's wash up and sleep."
