Lucas's Pov
I don't know how long we were there, but I didn't care. I just sat there, with her resting on my shoulder, crying.
After a while I noticed the sound of her sobs stop. I looked at her, she was asleep. I couldn't stop myself from admiring her. She was still gorgeous even after crying so much. I hate myself for not being able to do anything to help her.
After I finished my breakfast and paid, she was still asleep on my shoulder.
I didn't want to wake her up, but we had to go.
I tried to wake her up by nudging her a bit, but she didn't respond. It looked like she was deep into her sleep and wouldn't wake up.
So I did the only thing I could think of.
I slowly stood up, making sure she wouldn't wake up because of my movement, and then, then.. I picked her up bridal style. And walked out of the cafe towards my car trying my best to be as gentle as possible with her.
I put her down on the passenger seat beside me, and put the blanket from earlier back on her.
After all that she was still asleep, that made me worry even more about her.
I can see that she is going through a lot right now. I just wish I could make all her worries disappear.
As I sat on the driver's seat, I wasn't sure what to do now.
Should I drop Ivey at her house? Or should I call Kayla and ask if I could take Ivey to her house?
I thought about it for a minute and decided to call Kayla and ask her.
"Hey" Kayla said over the phone "What happened with Ivey last night? Is she okay now?"
"Right now Ivey is still in my car. I took her out for breakfast and she fell asleep again. I am not sure where to bring her. Could I bring her to your house since you don't live with your parents, then no one will question what happened? It would also be very suspicious if I dropped her off at her house unconscious"
"Ya sure, but you better have kept her safe, if anything happened to her you will be found dead soon" Kayla said in a threatening voice.
I laughed a little. "I promise you, I took good care of her"
I hung up the call, and started driving, making sure that Ivey was okay every time I hit a bump on the road.
When I arrived at Kayla's house Ivey was still sleeping. I couldn't help but wish that I could just stare at her all day. But unfortunately reality hit me.
I got out of the car and open the door next to Ivey's seat, and picked her up again to bring her inside the house.
When Kayla opened the door she was surprised that Ivey was still asleep.
"Come in" she said with a concerned tone
"Put her down on the bed in the room over there" She said pointing at a small room with a simple design.
The room had little to nothing in it. Only a bed and a table with a lamp on it. But it was also filled with many pictures on the wall of Ivey & Kayla. I think that the room Ivey stays in whenever she comes over to Kayla's house.
I put Ivey down on the bed and walked to Kayla, who was now holding a wet towel.
"What are you doing?" I asked her curiously.
"I think Ivey has a fever, can you help me? I will put this towel on her head. Maybe she will feel better." She said handing me the towel and some cold water.
"Ya, sure anything to help a friend" I said trying to hide my worry for ivey that was increasing by the second.
I went back to the room with the towel and water, and gently placed the towel on Ivey's head.
Kayla was right. Ivey did have a fever, she was burning up. How didn't I notice this earlier?
I feel guilty for not noticing, maybe I should take her to the doctor or something.
Kayla stepped out to grab some medicine, leaving me alone with Ivey.
I sat beside the bed, watching her breathe. Her cheeks were flushed, her skin too warm.
"I should've noticed," I whispered, more to myself than her. "I'm so sorry, Ivey."
Her eyebrows scrunched slightly in her sleep, like she heard me even in her fevered haze. I dipped the towel in cold water again and wrung it out before placing it gently back on her forehead.
When Kayla returned, she stood in the doorway, arms crossed.
"You care about her," she said. Not a question.
I looked up at her. "Yeah. I do."
She nodded once. "Then don't screw this up."
"I won't."
And I meant it.
Even if she never saw me the way I saw her, I wasn't going anywhere.
Not while she was still trying to pick up the pieces he left behind.
