Chapter 3 - Preparations Before Opening

In the living room, Bewear firmly pressed Carver down onto a freshly cleaned stool, not letting him help. Meanwhile, it happily resumed sweeping the dusty breeding house.

Carver: "..."

The little sun floating above Bewear's head hadn't disappeared yet—meaning it was still in a very cheerful mood.

But currently, there was only one broom in the entire place, so even if Carver wanted to help, he couldn't.

Since he had already decided to reopen and run the breeding house and inn, he needed to do some prep work before officially opening.

As everyone knows, for any business to grow, location is key.

This factor almost entirely determines customer traffic.

Although a breeding house differs from regular shops, if it were tucked away in some obscure corner, few Trainers would go out of their way to visit.

While Bewear was cleaning, Carver stepped outside.

Before him was a wide road stretching into the distance.

The original Carver's memories told him that this breeding house was located on the main road between Meteor Falls and Fallarbor Town—a prominent, well-traveled path.

Anyone heading through wouldn't miss it unless they went far out of their way.

Fallarbor Town was a small agricultural settlement in the northwest of the Hoenn region, best known for its Contest Hall, which regularly drew Coordinators from all over.

Meteor Falls, on the other hand, needed no introduction—famous for its rare Pokémon and meteorite fossils, it drew Trainers daily.

Which meant one thing: this breeding house would never lack customers.

As Carver was thinking, three young Trainers—two girls and a boy—walked up the road. It looked like they were just passing by.

They noticed the open door and peered inside curiously.

"Huh? There's a breeding house here?"

"Looks abandoned…"

Then they saw Carver standing in the doorway.

"There's even a Pokémon cleaning inside!" one of the girls, who was holding an Eevee, exclaimed in surprise.

Apparently, Bewear hadn't found Carver in the living room and followed his scent outside.

Carver's gaze swept over the Eevee.

[Pokémon: Eevee]

[Gender: Male]

[Ability: Adaptability]

[Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip, Growl, Covet, Sand Attack]

[Status: Healthy]

[Mood: ☁️]

[Joy: -20]

[Friendship: 0 (You are strangers in this world)]

[Description: Just another troublesome day — Eevee.]

Carver's eyes stopped at the gloomy little raincloud floating above Eevee's head.

This Eevee... seemed to be in a pretty foul mood.

The girl asked curiously, "Hi there! Are you the owner of this breeding house?"

Carver gave a slight nod. "Hello. Yes, I am. But the house is still being prepared and isn't open yet. If you need any services, please come back the day after tomorrow."

The girl made a mental note and then turned to leave with her companions.

Carver realized he'd need to take a trip to Fallarbor Town soon.

The breeding house was practically empty—they didn't even have dinner.

And it wasn't just food. They also lacked daily necessities, bedding, tools, and more.

The problem was, the trip to Fallarbor Town took half a day on foot. If he left now, he wouldn't return until midnight…

Carver frowned, troubled.

If only he had a rideable Pokémon right now.

"Guu?"

Bewear immediately noticed the frown on his young master's face.

Carver: "I want to go into town, but it's too far. If we walk, we won't get back until really late."

"Guu…" Bewear thought for a moment—and then a light bulb lit up above its head. "Guu!"

It had an idea!

Before Carver could react, Bewear suddenly jumped to his side, scooped him into its arms, and charged off at full speed.

"W-Whoa whoa whoa!"

Carver was startled.

Wasn't this the same pose that Bewear used in the anime to carry Team Rocket?!

"Guu~!"

Bewear happily reassured him that everything was fine—and sprinted ahead at top speed.

Northwest Hoenn Region, where the towering Mt. Chimney stood. Occasionally, volcanic ash would drift down, enriching the soil and vegetation.

Surrounding the volcano was the lush Fallarbor Forest. With fertile land perfect for agriculture, locals had formed a small farming town—Fallarbor Town.

"Food, bedding, Pokémon care tools, spare clothes…"

Carver mentally listed everything he needed to buy.

He only had 20,000 Pokécoins, so he had to spend cautiously.

Still, he found it strange—shouldn't there have been some compensation money after his parents died in the shipwreck? Yet there was no memory of it.

Sighing, Carver wandered through the department store with Bewear in tow.

Bewear pushed a shopping cart while Carver filled it with goods:

Instant noodles ×10

Packaged ramen ×20

A bag of flour

30 eggs

Cooking oil ×1

Two sausages

10 potatoes

5 comforters

One bucket of Pokémon snacks

He also grabbed seasoning and basic household items.

After this shopping trip, he had 13,000 Pokécoins left.

"We need seeds for vegetables and fruits!" Carver suddenly thought of the garden with the berry trees.

That way, they could grow their own produce and cut food expenses.

"Too bad we don't have a Grass-type Pokémon…"

According to his memories, Grass-types could use their natural energy to help plants grow faster and healthier.

But the nearby forest supposedly had plenty of Grass-types—he'd catch one later, Carver decided.

Catching Pokémon required Poké Balls. Even a basic red-and-white one cost 500 Pokécoins. Though it pained him, Carver bought two.

Now they had food for a few days and enough bedding.

The inn could finally start operating.

They could offer simple food like ramen and a place to rest.

Once they earned some income, he could gradually furnish the rooms, improve the beds, and upgrade their menu.

As for the breeding house, Carver had extensive knowledge about Pokémon from his previous life—and with his cheat ability, teaching moves shouldn't be a problem.

Looking at the fully loaded cart, Carver felt a surge of determination.

This was his foundation in the Pokémon world.

Before returning, he also bought a small chalkboard and chalk, writing out the services currently available at the breeding house:

Main Services

Currently Teachable Move: Baby-Doll Eyes

He'd place it outside in two days—any Trainer interested would come in naturally.

He wasn't worried about demand. For Trainers, the more moves their Pokémon knew, the more flexible their battle tactics.

Even unremarkable moves could turn the tide of a match.

And if other Pokémon knew something yours didn't? That was a problem.

On the way back, Carver sat in the cart while Bewear effortlessly pushed both him and all the groceries.

By the time they returned, the sky had darkened.

Carver made two bowls of ramen with egg and ham slices using the kitchen.

His cooking was decent—he could tell by the way Bewear slurped down the soup.

"Guu~!"

Bewear was thrilled.

Young master had grown up and become amazing!

Though it didn't understand what had happened, it was just happy that its young master seemed okay.

Maybe... things would be alright now? Bewear hoped so.

After a long day, Carver was exhausted. He locked up the house and went to bed early.

Once he was asleep, Bewear stood beside him with a happy gaze, then curled up nearby and dozed off.

That night, Carver had a dream.

Through the haze, he saw three figures—two adults and one child.

The two grown-ups held the hand of a ten-year-old boy as they looked at Carver.

"Please, take care of Bewear for me!" the boy said apologetically.

The man beside him sighed, "From now on, that child is yours to care for."

"You're going to run the breeding house? That's wonderful…" the woman added.

"Oh, and I have a gift for you."

"It was originally for little Carver. I didn't think he'd... come looking for us. But you just turned ten—so that gift should be arriving soon."

"Please accept it."

"Thank you. Please help Bewear. Take care of it."

"We're leaving now—heading to the spirit world."

With that, the boy took his parents' hands, turned around, and disappeared into the mist.

Carver jolted awake, his heart pounding.

"What the heck—ghosts?!"

"Guu...?"

Bewear woke up too. Seeing Carver gasping in the dark, it immediately understood:

Young master had a nightmare.

It stood up, walked over, and gently hugged Carver.

"Guu~"

Don't be afraid. Bewear was here.
