Mystogan's method for entering Edolas required the assistance of others. Edolas had activated Anima multiple times; although those spells were deactivated, they left traces behind.
Mystogan could use these traces to open a passage, utilizing the magical power of Carla and Happy, Exceeds from Edolas, to establish a connection with Edolas, thereby transporting the expedition force to the alternate world.
Indeed, while there were differences between the inhabitants of the two worlds, certain aspects remained remarkably similar.
Mystogan, much like Jellal, was a prodigious talent, his mastery of magic far surpassing that of ordinary mages.
The plan he devised was exceptionally sound. The expedition team, riding upon Happy, used a compass-like magical artifact imbued with Carla's magical energy as a guide, successfully navigating the remnants of Anima's activation and entering the alternate world.
Drake's primary motivation for facilitating this expedition was to mitigate potential risks.
In the original storyline, the Edolas kingdom unleashed a super-large-scale Anima, transforming the entire town of Magnolia and all the Fairy Tail mages into a colossal magic crystal.
Only Natsu, Wendy, and Gajeel were spared due to their Dragon Slayer magic.
Had Mystogan not promptly utilized a reversed Anima to transport everyone back to Earthland, it's difficult to imagine the catastrophic consequences that would have ensued.
Drake was determined to prevent such a disastrous scenario from occurring. Being transformed into a magic crystal would have rendered them completely defenseless, and any unforeseen complications could have resulted in irreversible consequences that Drake would deeply regret.
Knowing the plot of the original storyline, Drake naturally would not allow such a perilous event to transpire. Taking a proactive approach was always the most prudent course of action.
As they traversed the dimensional rift separating the two worlds, Drake remained steadfast, his gaze unwavering. The sensation was markedly different from that of utilizing world magic.
While Edolas and Earthland are considered parallel worlds, they are in fact intimately connected, much like two branches sprouting from the same tree trunk.
This close connection is clearly evident in the individuals from both worlds who bear such striking similarities yet possess distinct differences.
Before long, a brilliant light filled their vision, signaling their arrival in Edolas!
The landscape that unfolded before them was remarkably reminiscent of the fantastical otherworlds depicted in storybooks.
Numerous small islands floated serenely amidst the clouds, and unfamiliar, colossal beasts soared through the sky, creating a breathtaking vista unlike anything they had ever witnessed.
"So this is Edolas, the alternate world," Erza remarked in awe.
Gray suddenly exclaimed in alarm, "Hey! What's going on? I can't use my magic!"
Upon hearing Gray's words, the others immediately attempted to utilize their magic, and they discovered that while their magical power remained intact, they were inexplicably unable to cast any spells.
Mystogan tossed a small vial towards the group. "Don't worry, everyone. It's quite normal for Earthland mages to be unable to use magic in Edolas. Simply consume this X-ball, and your magical abilities should be restored."
Drake received the pill that Mystogan had offered but did not consume it; instead, he extended his palm outward. A small flame promptly ignited in his palm.
Drake closed his hand, extinguishing the flame. His suspicions had been confirmed.
The reason why the other mages were unable to utilize their magic upon entering Edolas was due to the fundamental differences between the magical energy systems of Edolas and Earthland.
Drake could perceive the distinct magical energy fluctuations emanating from Mystogan's X-balls, confirming that they were imbued with the magical essence of the Exceeds, the only magical lifeforms native to Edolas. By infusing their own magical energy with that of the Exceeds, the mages would be able to freely utilize their magical abilities.
As for Drake himself, his mastery of world magic allowed him to seamlessly utilize his magical abilities even in worlds with entirely different magical energy systems, let alone worlds that share a common origin.
With their magical abilities restored, the members of the expedition force finally felt a sense of relief wash over them. Magic was the very foundation upon which mages relied; the temporary loss of their magical capabilities had understandably caused them considerable anxiety.
"Everyone, look!" Freed suddenly exclaimed, pointing in a specific direction.
Following the direction of Freed's finger, they saw a colossal tree stump, which, remarkably, featured doors and windows, as if someone had carved out a dwelling within its massive trunk.
Most striking of all was the flag that hung prominently from the tree stump; the emblem displayed upon it was unmistakably that of Fairy Tail.
Drake declared, "Just as there are two Jellals, there are also counterparts in this world who are simultaneously similar to and different from ourselves.
I suspect that this is this world's version of Fairy Tail!"
Natsu immediately became energized, exclaiming, "Is that so? That means there's another me over there! Then let's go and take a look!"
The other members of the expedition team shared Natsu's enthusiasm, their curiosity piqued by the prospect of encountering their counterparts from this alternate world.
Drake was strongly inclined to inform his companions that their purpose in Edolas was far more serious than a mere sightseeing excursion, but Mystogan intervened.
"Allow me to accompany them to that location. I need to proceed to the royal capital first; it's quite possible that I might be able to secure assistance and gather vital information there.
It's been quite some time since I've returned to Edolas, and before we take any action, it's imperative that I ascertain the precise details of the current situation."
Drake responded, "Very well, I shall entrust this matter to you. However, please do not overexert yourself; remember that we, your comrades, will always be here to support you!"
With those words, Mystogan gracefully leaped from Happy's back, his figure vanishing into the swirling mist.
Drake gently patted Happy, who instantly understood his intentions. Happy then steered the group towards the location of Edolas's Fairy Tail guild.
Even from a considerable distance, Drake instructed Happy to land and disembark the group.
If Drake recalled correctly, the magic system of this world differed from that of Earthland; it primarily involved the utilization of various magical tools powered by magical energy.
Due to King Faust's insatiable greed for magical power, the citizens of Edolas were subject to strict restrictions regarding the possession and use of magic.
Consequently, guilds that relied on magic to accomplish their missions were naturally targeted by the kingdom.
In this world, there was no clear distinction between official guilds and dark guilds; any guild that practiced magic was considered an outlaw organization.
Under the relentless onslaught of the kingdom's magical knights, guilds were systematically eliminated, one by one, until only Fairy Tail remained.
This was largely due to the fact that Fairy Tail's guild headquarters was itself a powerful magical tool capable of performing spatial transfers, allowing them to evade the kingdom's repeated attempts at extermination.
Drake was also concerned about the possibility of being mistaken for kingdom soldiers by the Edolas Fairy Tail guild; if they were to relocate, it would be exceedingly difficult to track them down.
Despite the considerable distance, the group quickly arrived at the entrance to the Fairy Tail guild.
Gazing upon the guild headquarters, which resembled a colossal tree, Erza remarked, "So this is the guild of this world? It certainly is… interesting."
As the group exchanged comments, the door on the opposite side of the courtyard suddenly swung open, and a figure emerged.
His eyes immediately fell upon Erza, who was positioned at the forefront of the group, and his face contorted into an expression of sheer terror. He scrambled back into the guild, his panicked shouts echoing clearly to the ears of the onlookers.
"It's no good! The Fairy Hunters have arrived! Everyone, run for your lives!"
"Don't panic! Quickly prepare the spatial transfer magic!"
"I also saw Natsu and the others behind her; weren't they captured?"
"What… did you say…?"
Erza facepalmed, her feelings quite complex at the sight of her guildmates fleeing at her approach.
Drake patted her on the shoulder. "It seems that this world's version of you isn't exactly known for her affability!"
Natsu tilted his head, thoughtfully. "That voice just now… it sounded awfully familiar…"
Lucy pointed to herself. "It sounded like… mine!"
As the group continued their exchange, the guild doors once again swung open, and a large number of individuals rushed out.
And then, pairs of individuals who were identical in every respect found themselves staring at each other in stunned silence.
For the members of the Earthland Fairy Tail guild, although Drake had previously informed them of the existence of their counterparts in Edolas, the sight of these doppelgangers still evoked a mixture of surprise and bewilderment.
The inhabitants of Edolas, however, were even more astonished; the unfolding situation far exceeded their comprehension.
