Chapter 45 - .45

"Wuwuwu, brother, brother!"

In a messy room, Rain held Fei Qingqing and hid in a dark cabinet.

"Qingqing-jie, don't worry. I already sent a message to my dad. He'll be here soon."

"Brother, brother!"

Rain was anxious too, but he was too young and couldn't fight those people.

The cabinet door opened. Rain grabbed Fei Qingqing's wrist, ready to teleport again.

Luckily, he saw clearly who it was at the last moment.

"Dad, Mom, you're finally here!"

Wah!

Rain was still just a kid. He had been holding it in, trying to be brave.

After all, he's a boy and wanted to protect Qingqing-jie.

Now that his parents were here, he finally let himself cry hard.

Danielle looked at the smashed furniture around them and frowned. She quickly hugged both kids to comfort them.

"What exactly happened?"

Rain was crying too hard. Fei Qingqing, with red eyes, looked pitifully at Danielle.

"I-I don't know. A bunch of people suddenly rushed in and grabbed my brother without saying anything."

"If Rain hadn't saved me, I would've been taken too."

Rain also looked up with his small face. "I teleported to someone's house, then jumped a few more times before coming back. I don't know where those people went."

They couldn't get much useful information from the kids.

So Danielle and Zachary took them home first.

"We were downstairs. How come we didn't see those people?" Danielle was confused.

Zachary said, "That building doesn't have just one exit. Maybe we missed each other."

"Right now, we need to find out what kind of trouble Fei Yang got into."

Danielle looked confused.

Zachary couldn't figure it out either. They hadn't known Fei Yang for long.

"I'll ask Leng."

Danielle sent a message but got no reply. She wasn't worried yet.

But after sending a video call with no answer either, she got nervous.

"Could something have happened to Leng too?"

If only Fei Yang was missing, she wouldn't suspect anything.

But now with Leng also unreachable, Danielle couldn't help thinking something was wrong.

Zachary looked more serious. "I'll go check it out."

He moved faster alone. Danielle stayed home to watch the kids.

Shortly after Zachary left, someone knocked hard on the door.

Danielle told the kids to hide and then went to open it.

"Who are you looking for?"

Two middle-aged people stood at the door. When the man saw Danielle, he started crying loudly and tried to rush in.

Danielle blocked him. "What are you doing? If you keep trying to come in, I'll call the security team!"

The man stopped, his eyes full of anger. He stood with his hands on his hips and yelled at Danielle.

"You heartless woman! We're your neighbors, and you want the security team to catch us?"

Neighbors?

Danielle took a closer look. The man did look a little familiar.

Not someone she'd met—he just looked like someone she knew.

Chu Xiong.

The woman who hadn't spoken until now finally did.

"I'm Chu Hong, Chu Xiong's mom. You're Danielle, right?"

Danielle nodded. "Yes, I am."

"Chu Xiong said he was bringing you some snacks, and then he never came home. Have you seen him?"

The woman was polite, so Danielle answered politely too.

She shook her head. "No, I haven't. I just got back from outside."

"No way! I saw my son come here with my own eyes. You must be hiding him! Give me back my son now!"

The man started yelling and throwing a fit again.

Chu Hong frowned. "Enough. Embarrass me one more time out here and I'll divorce you."

The man immediately dropped to the ground, crying and wailing like he was putting on a whole drama.

As Danielle started to get a headache from all the noise, two other men walked out from next door.

Turns out, Chu Hong's husband wasn't the only one around.

They pointed at the man on the ground and mocked him with amused faces.

Wang Dazhuang, Chu Xiong's father, finally stopped making a scene on the ground.

He jumped up and rushed into the yard. "Son! Come out! Come out now!"

"Don't worry, Dad will speak up for you! I'll make her marry you! Don't be afraid!"

Danielle…

She just opened the front door all the way. "I already said he didn't come here. My door's been closed this whole time. How would he even get inside?"

"He jumped over the wall!"

Wang Dazhuang covered his mouth the moment he said it. The two men behind him burst into loud laughter.

You could faintly hear them whispering things like "how embarrassing."

Chu Hong gave him a cold glare. "What a disgrace."

Then she grabbed Wang Dazhuang by the collar and tossed him back behind her like he weighed nothing.

The guy was nearly two meters tall and almost 200 pounds, but she threw him like a chicken.

Danielle couldn't help but raise her brows—Chu Hong was stronger than she looked, especially with how small she was.

"I really didn't see him."

Chu Hong nodded. "I'll keep looking. If you see him, just let me know. Thank you."

She seemed polite enough. Danielle had just nodded when Wang Dazhuang suddenly shouted and rushed over again.

"He has to be here! Look! Look!"

He pointed at the vegetable patch, his face turning red with excitement.

Danielle turned to look. At first, she didn't notice anything.

Then, on a second glance, she saw a white insulated lunchbox.

Honestly, all her watering cans and tools were white too, so it had blended in.

"I really didn't know…"

Then Danielle suddenly thought of something, her expression shifting.

"When exactly did he come here?"

Wang Dazhuang was very sure.

An hour ago—that was when she and Zachary were inside the space.

If Chu Xiong came then and couldn't find anyone, but now he was gone…

Danielle's head buzzed. Could it be?

While she was still thinking about it, Zachary rushed in from outside.

"Leng is missing too."

Their house wasn't as messy as Fei Yang's, but there were faint signs of a struggle.

Danielle grew anxious. "Who would do this?"

Zachary's muscles tightened. "Whoever it is, they'll slip up eventually."

Zachary was almost certain now—the people who took Leng and Fei Yang did it because of Danielle.

He just wasn't sure if it was the Duo Family, or…

Hearing that, Danielle calmed down slightly.

"You're right. They'll reach out to me. Oh—and Zachary, Chu Xiong is also missing."

Danielle explained everything that had just happened.

Wang Dazhuang, standing to the side, blinked in confusion. "What do you mean, missing? Who's missing? Didn't you hide my son?"

Danielle glanced at him and repeated firmly, "I really didn't see him. Besides…"

She looked at the two-meter-high wall. "Trespassing on someone else's property is illegal. I have every right to deal with him however I see fit."
