Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Nen Ability × Potion

An endless expanse of blue sky.

A dirigible floated through the white clouds, sailing beneath that vast sky.

Kevin Carpenberg sat in his seat, took a sip of coffee, and gazed out the window at the scenery outside.

Honestly, before doing his research, he never imagined that this world's air transportation would rely on dirigibles—something that had been completely phased out in his previous life—instead of the airplanes he was familiar with.

Ground transportation, however, was exactly the same as in his past world.

Sigh, maybe that's just the nature of different worlds.

"Dear passengers, we are about to arrive at Saba City. Passengers heading to this destination, please…"

Upon hearing the announcement, Kevin stood up and got ready. He had brought along quite a bit of luggage—packing all the strange items from the jeep and bringing them back.

Except for the jeep itself, which he sold off.

After disembarking from the dirigible, he gathered his luggage, hailed a cab, and headed to his "home."

To be honest, this place was rather remote by the city's standards—almost on the outermost edge of Saba City.

Basically, the suburbs.

But for a standalone house, Kevin was quite satisfied.

"Take a look around, give me some memory fragments, brain! You were a top student, don't act like a complete idiot now."

The building was approximately three stories tall, with white exterior walls and a yard surrounded by a two-meter-high wall.

Next to the yard was a garage that had been built separately.

After wandering inside and out for a while, Kevin used fragments of memory to locate a basement.

It was quite spacious—visually, it looked like it made up half the building's footprint, including the yard.

Other than the staircase section, the entire basement resembled a lab.

Not an evil lab, but more like a place to research some kind of chemical compound.

There were all kinds of droppers, flasks, and piles of materials he didn't recognize.

One particular storeroom was filled with biological specimens soaked in unidentified liquids—unknown animals, massive limbs, what looked like brains, eyeballs, organs…

"Looks like I really wasn't a good guy."

Kevin couldn't help but comment.

It looked pretty sinister, and as he toured the house, this was the only room that triggered memory fragments—scenes of him concocting something at the workstation.

Now he understood why the jeep didn't carry much else besides carefully categorized powders and herbs.

He'd also seen it in the personal profile before.

This body had graduated from the Royal Medical Academy of the Koganyu Kingdom, which Kevin had looked up—it ranked among the top medical institutions in the world.

No doubt, he was a top student, and his major was pharmacology.

He had also just seen several neatly lined-up vials in a small refrigerated cabinet.

"Wait, if experiments were being done here, there has to be a lab journal, right?"

A spark of joy lit up in Kevin's eyes. He quickly searched around and soon found a cabinet filled with research logs.

The logs were meticulously archived, with all kinds of experiment records.

Though not all of them were strictly documented—many were scribbled thoughts or bursts of inspiration.

And then he saw some outrageous keywords in them.

"Life energy, aura, nen, soul…"

As he continued digging through the records, deeper and deeper instincts began to surface—almost on par with his understanding of language or logic.

A supernatural ability, deeply rooted in him since graduation.

So deeply ingrained, it felt like instinct.

He could feel the emotions attached to those memories—joy, madness, pride.

Kevin raised his hands. Even without using the technique Jin Freecss briefly introduced earlier, he could now clearly see his own aura flowing out.

The aura gathered and materialized into an object.

A scale.

But it wasn't just any scale—it had three trays forming a triangular shape. The main structure was crystalline, while the trays were made of different materials.

Clockwise: gold, silver, and bronze.

Below it, a ten-centimeter-thick base with a hollow circle at its center.

"A Moment's Dream."

Kevin murmured. That was its name.

And he knew exactly how to use it.

Though it looked like a scale, it was actually an alchemy device—like a witch's cauldron.

A Potion Crafting Platform.

Each use required placing three different ingredients on the gold, silver, and bronze trays.

A suitable empty vial needed to be placed in the hollow area below.

Then, activating the ability would produce a potion with somewhat randomized effects.

Wait.

"Something's off…"

Kevin rubbed his forehead. His memories and current knowledge were starting to clash.

When he activated the ability, "A Moment's Dream" instinctively told him how to use it.

But the method from his original memories was different from what he now understood.

Why? Can one even deceive oneself? What's the point?

In his previous memories, potion ingredients could only be biological materials with physical presence.

But now, a new option existed—minerals.

Of course, everything still had to belong to him—items in his possession.

Originally, he had to drink a potion to find out what it did, but now, he could roughly determine its effects just by placing the materials in the scale.

This new feature was called Estimation.

In any case, this definitely counted as a power-up, right? Why? Was it because he transmigrated?

Honestly, he wasn't sure. He didn't even have a deep understanding of nen abilities yet.

But now he started to understand why people who could use aura were called nen users.

This thing in front of him was clearly made from aura. Honestly, it shattered his worldview.

That aura could manifest into a physical object and even be used to create items—wasn't it just for enhancing the body or shooting blasts?

Is that even reasonable?

Who cares. Maybe that's just how this otherworld works.

Kevin accepted this setting easily enough. After all, he had already transmigrated, taken over a body, and all that. Compared to those, this didn't seem so absurd.

And so he enthusiastically started experimenting with his newfound "superpower" while gathering more information.

A man from an ordinary world, now in possession of a seemingly supernatural ability—the temptation was simply too great.

If not for his concern that others might also have this kind of power and pose a threat, he would've started testing and training in public long ago.

Now that he was back in this "home," he finally felt a little safer.

Even though he was still anxious, his body began to relax naturally.

Controlling the flow of aura inside his body—he was getting the hang of it, maybe due to muscle memory. It was smooth.

Strengthening his body with aura—he figured that was probably the most basic application of life energy.

It was easy and felt quite natural. More muscle memory?

Throwing aura outward, though—that was trickier.

Time passed as he continued training and experimenting.
