The Chancellor kept his face turned to the floor, unable to raise it up. From shame or embarrassment, Ember wasn't sure which. Although at the end she supposed they were the same.
"Do not think for once I do not know how persistent you were in the past eight years as you slandered me in your petitions. Calling me a Queen who must be dethroned. An immoral model for women. The crown princess who absconded her place to do the works ordinary Healers would have easily done."
The chancellor's face darted up to stare at the Queen and he swallowed. "But it's true!" He said stubbornly to Ember's shock who thought he was going to apologize, "you left your official duties for personal business!"
