In a voice filled with exasperation, Ember answered. "The point is that you've gone out of your way to prove that I'm just another inconvenience to you. Calling me little thing and all. But the truth is, your actions keep proving you wrong."
His jaw tightened, although not from anger. It was almost as if he was berating himself for giving her the upper hand in their conversation. "And what point might you be trying to prove?"
Ember smiled sadly. "That you haven't forgotten what day today is despite the barge front you've been putting in front of me. Don't deny it. From the way I've asked of you, and the way you looked at my duffel bag… I already knew you know. You say eight years means nothing for someone who has lived as long as you've done. But that doesn't mean you've forgotten what those eight years meant."
