Chapter 292 - How Did Spider-Man Become an Avenger?

"Right, what Stark said makes sense."

After hearing Tony Stark's analysis, Captain America immediately nodded in agreement.

"And there's more," Captain America continued. "T'Challa, didn't you say the Jabari Tribe was an isolationist tribe? They've always stayed out of Wakandan affairs. So why would they suddenly come out to help you at such a critical moment?"

Captain America provided what he considered very solid supporting evidence.

"That must mean T'Challa asked the Jabari Tribe for help," Scott Lang added from the side. "Otherwise, why would the Jabari suddenly intervene in Wakandan affairs? T'Challa was completely isolated at the time—asking the Jabari for aid was probably his only option."

On this point, no one really had any objections. From every angle, the reasoning was logically sound.

That being the case, since T'Challa had already secured such a powerful ally as the Jabari Tribe, why would he still go out of his way to seek Ross's help?

It made no sense at all.

From multiple perspectives, T'Challa seeking Ross's assistance was illogical. As a result, option D was ruled out without any hesitation.

That meant only option C remained as the answer.

To be honest, this question was actually quite simple.

If Black Panther T'Challa hadn't been involved and everyone didn't understand Wakanda's "corporate culture," it really wouldn't have been easy to analyze.

After all, every option seemed reasonable on the surface.

But once Wakanda's "corporate culture" was understood, the question posed no real difficulty at all.

Next came the issue of who would answer the question.

Among everyone present, only Thor and Peter Parker hadn't answered yet. After a brief discussion, the two quickly reached an agreement.

This question would be answered by Peter Parker.

The reward—something called a "penetration ring"—didn't sound appealing at all to Thor. Just the name alone failed to spark his interest.

As for Peter Parker?

Peter Parker was interested in every reward. Since Thor wasn't competing with him, he was more than happy to take the question.

"I choose C—take him back to Wakanda for treatment!"

Peter Parker stared excitedly at the big screen and announced his answer.

[Correct answer!]

[Congratulations to contestant Peter Parker for obtaining the reward: one Penetration Ring!]

As soon as the system notification faded, Peter Parker immediately felt his hand sink slightly. He realized that a golden-colored ring had appeared in his hand.

It looked utterly ordinary.

Just a simple golden ring.

Not cool at all—no high-tech vibe, no magical flair—just a plain, unremarkable ring.

"Oh my God! This is amazing! I can't believe something this magical actually exists in the world! Mr. Stark, this thing is incredible! Wait—how do I even know all this information about it?"

Peter Parker excitedly shouted nonstop.

He looked like a kid who had just received his favorite birthday present, practically overflowing with joy.

"Can you believe it? Can you all believe it? As long as I place this ring against a wall, a hole will appear in the wall! I mean, the space inside the ring turns into a hole, and then I can just walk through!"

Without waiting for anyone to ask, Peter Parker enthusiastically explained the Penetration Ring's abilities.

"Is that so, kid? That actually sounds kind of interesting," Tony Stark said with a hint of teasing. "Seems like something Scott might be able to use."

"Stark, come on."

Scott Lang immediately looked speechless. He knew Tony Stark was mocking his past as a thief.

"First of all, I'm a superhero now, okay? I've already got the Wasp suit. No matter what, I'm never stealing anything again!"

"Second, even if I really had to do some kind of 'infiltration' mission in the future, wouldn't my Ant-Man suit be way better than this thing?"

"Mr. Scott, you steal things?" Peter Parker looked at Scott Lang with the expression of a kid staring at a bad uncle.

Stealing was something even he, a kid, wouldn't do!

"Peter, it's not like that!" Scott Lang felt a headache coming on. "Okay, fine, I did some things in the past because of life circumstances, but that wasn't the real me! I've turned over a new leaf!"

"Haha, Scott, why are you so nervous?" Thor laughed from the side. "The kid was just saying it casually."

"I have a question," T'Challa spoke up at this moment, pointing at the ring. "Can this ring be enlarged or shrunk?"

"No, Mr. T'Challa. It's only this size," Peter Parker shook his head.

"Heh, thank goodness Peter Parker answered this question. This thing is basically a kid's toy!" Thor immediately shook his head repeatedly, looking relieved.

The ring was only that big. Even if it let you pass through walls, you'd still have to crawl through it.

Would Thor, mighty Thor, ever use something like that?

That would be an insult.

Given Thor's rather "well-built" physique, whether he could even fit through it was questionable—he might get stuck.

Hearing this, the others also shook their heads. If it required crawling through, none of them were particularly interested.

Tony Stark, T'Challa, and Captain America all had more than enough pride.

Only Scott Lang might be less picky.

But with the Ant-Man suit, even he didn't really need it.

[Question session complete. Beginning answer explanation playback!]

As usual, shortly after the question ended, corresponding footage appeared on the big screen.

The first scene shown was a very basic safehouse.

Klaue was locked inside an interrogation room, while three people stood outside—T'Challa, Okoye, and Ross.

Everyone recognized them.

"I think we need a good cop and bad cop approach. I'll talk to him first, then you step in," Ross suggested to T'Challa and Okoye.

"We can't let him talk to Klaue alone," Okoye firmly refused, speaking to T'Challa in Wakandan.

"Let him talk to Klaue for five minutes. It's better than everything breaking down here," T'Challa replied.

"After you finish the interrogation, we'll take Klaue back to Wakanda," T'Challa then said to Ross.

"What? No. Listen, I appreciate you, but he's in my custody now. He's not going anywhere!" Ross argued. "If it weren't for me helping you, you wouldn't even be in here!"

As he spoke, Ross patted T'Challa on the shoulder.

Okoye immediately bristled and said to T'Challa in Wakandan, "If he touches you again, I'll nail him to the table."

"Does she speak English?" Ross asked T'Challa in confusion.

"Only when she wants to," Okoye added.

"I'll go in first. After I'm done, you can go in," Ross said, no longer bothering with Okoye, and headed toward the interrogation room.

"Agent Ross," T'Challa called out. "Thank you for your help in Busan."

"Did you hear that? That's what diplomacy sounds like!" Ross said smugly as he glanced at Okoye and walked into the interrogation room.

This segment established the background: Ross and T'Challa worked together to capture Klaue.

And Klaue was captured in Busan.

However, judging from how Ross and T'Challa seemed to be "competing" over Klaue, it was likely that the two sides had run into each other by coincidence and acted together, rather than conducting a joint operation.

Otherwise, command authority would have been clear, and such a situation wouldn't have occurred.

Besides stealing Wakanda's vibranium, Klaue was also a black-market arms dealer. It was perfectly reasonable that both T'Challa and the counterterrorism unit would go after him.

On screen—

Ross entered the interrogation room and sat across from Klaue.

Klaue began trying to manipulate Ross. "You really shouldn't trust what the Wakandans say. You and I—we're on the same wavelength."

"In my line of work, I don't trust anyone," Ross replied coldly. "But I am interested in that arm cannon of yours. Where did you get it?"

"It's an old mining tool. I made a few modifications," Klaue said. "If you like it, I can get you one."

This left everyone watching—except T'Challa—slightly confused.

Turning a mining tool into a cannon?

That was one hell of a leap.

"Why don't you just tell me the supplier's name?" Ross replied calmly. "I'll contact him myself."

"He's right outside. Why don't you ask him yourself?"

"What? T'Challa? You're saying that weapon on your arm came from Wakanda?" Ross looked incredulous.

"That's right!" Klaue nodded emphatically. "How much do you really know about Wakanda?"

"Uh…" Ross thought for a moment. "Shepherds, textiles, and cool outfits."

"All of that is a front! Explorers searched for centuries for the legendary Golden City. Everyone thought it was in South America, but the Golden City has always been in Africa! A technological miracle!"

"It's built on the most precious metal known to mankind. They call it a gift from the heavens—vibranium."

"Vibranium, right. The strongest metal on Earth," Ross nodded.

"It's not just metal. They can weave it into clothing. Vibranium powers their city, enhances their technology, and lets them create far superior weapons!" Klaue explained confidently.

T'Challa's expression darkened.

Klaue truly was Wakanda's greatest internal threat. He knew far too much about Wakanda.

As long as this man remained free, Wakanda would never have peace.

"Weapons?" Ross was clearly surprised.

"Yes. Compared to their weapons, my arm cannon is basically a toy!" Klaue said vividly.

But those who had already seen the footage knew Klaue wasn't exaggerating.

The supersonic cannon displayed during Wakanda's civil war had left a deep impression.

"Nice story, but Wakanda is a third-world country, and you stole all their vibranium," Ross said, unconvinced.

"I stole… all of it?" Klaue burst into exaggerated laughter. "I only took a tiny bit! They've got mountains of it! They've been mining for thousands of years and barely scratched the surface!"

"I'm the only one who's seen that and lived!"

"If you don't believe me, ask your friend what his suit is made of. Ask him what those claws are made of!"

Ross said nothing. He picked up his milk tea from the floor and walked out.

But it was obvious—Klaue had already planted seeds of doubt in his mind.

Outside, Ross confronted T'Challa. "Your father told the UN that all the vibranium was stolen. But Klaue says you have plenty of it."

"You believe the words of an arms dealer tied to a chair?" T'Challa replied.

The scene then shifted.

A van stopped in an alley. The doors opened, and several people jumped out.

Leading them was Killmonger.

The other two were clearly his lackeys—no one paid them much attention.

They began attaching bomb-like devices to a wall.

Combined with Klaue's interrogation scene, everyone could roughly guess their objective.

Killmonger—was he working with Klaue?

The answer soon became clear.

On screen, T'Challa's ex-girlfriend Nakia noticed something wrong and checked the surveillance.

"There's something wrong in the back!"

She rushed inside and shouted a warning.

Boom!

Before she could finish speaking, a violent explosion erupted.

A massive hole was blasted into the interrogation room wall.

At the same time, one of Killmonger's masked men charged in, spraying the hall with gunfire.

"Get down!"

Ross shouted, tackling Nakia to the ground—but in doing so, he was shot in the spine.

Chaos erupted in the hall.

After firing wildly, the masked man tossed a grenade into the crowd.

At the critical moment, T'Challa—already wearing the Black Panther suit—leapt forward and covered the grenade with his body.

Boom!

The grenade exploded.

But T'Challa was completely unharmed.

The Black Panther suit was simply insane.

When T'Challa stood up, Klaue had already been rescued by Killmonger. T'Challa immediately gave chase, sprinting after the van.

Rat-tat-tat!

Killmonger fired several shots at Black Panther, but they were all perfectly absorbed by the suit.

Just as Black Panther caught up to the van and leaped forward—

Bang!

Killmonger fired a cannon blast, sending Black Panther flying backward.

The enemy escaped.

T'Challa rushed back and saw Ross lying gravely wounded.

The bullet had struck his spine.

"I don't think he'll last long. The bullet hit his spine," Nakia said gravely.

"Give me a Kimoyo bead!" T'Challa said immediately.

Nakia removed a bead from her bracelet and handed it to him. T'Challa pressed it into Ross's wound.

It was clearly a Wakandan emergency medical method.

"We have to take him back. Only we can save him," T'Challa said solemnly.

The image froze there.

That said, some of the developments were indeed unexpected.

Especially Klaue.

No one had anticipated that he would be involved in this as well.

"I thought Klaue only colluded with Prince N'Jobu. I didn't expect him to be working with Killmonger too," Captain America said in surprise.

After all, Killmonger was also a member of the royal family and later even seized the throne. His status in Wakanda was no small matter.

As for Prince N'Jobu—he was literally a prince.

That Klaue managed to collude with two such key figures was truly remarkable.

But Captain America quickly realized something.

Killmonger was T'Challa's cousin.

In other words, N'Jobu's son.

Seen that way, it wasn't so strange after all.

"At the time, Ross was shot in the spine and on the verge of death. That kind of injury is impossible to treat with modern medicine," Tony Stark said, having noticed something. "But from the looks of it, this wasn't a big problem for Wakanda. Their medical technology must be extremely advanced."

"Yes," T'Challa nodded, not hiding it.

"Then…" Tony Stark pulled open his shirt slightly, revealing the arc reactor. "Can you remove the shrapnel in my chest?"

The main reason Tony had installed a "battery" in his chest was to keep the shrapnel from moving. Powering the suit was secondary.

Otherwise, the reactor could have been placed entirely in the armor.

Modern medicine simply made removing the shrapnel too risky.

"Trust me, that would be a trivial matter," T'Challa said confidently.

"Well," Tony Stark replied casually, as if it were just an offhand question, "Wakanda really is impressive."

[Please listen carefully to the question: Which of the following officially recognized Spider-Man Peter Parker as an Avenger?]
