Chapter 47 - What's Their Relation? - Part 2

Carl continued,

"You are not going to leave me, will you? As the count's investigation was almost complete, my father got to know about his precious sister's scandal with an unknown man. My father, who, at the time, valued the dignity and pride of the house more than anything, forbade my aunt from seeing the Count and even put her under house arrest. He quickly started looking for potential fiancées, thinking an engagement might stop her from seeing the brat of unknown origins. But he didn't know that it was his butler. As Count's investigation was in its ending stage, my father found out that it was with the young butler of the house, whom his sister was roaming around. He summoned him and fired him. My Aunt soon got a potential fiancé. But by the time the talks went towards engagement, she and the Count eloped. My father searched everywhere in the viscounty but couldn't find them. The Count, after clearing the name of my father, returned with his new wife to our estate. At that time, my father had already got wind of the secret investigation and recognised the Count. Seeing his sister marry someone whom he considered a traitor, in rage, my father removed my Aunt from the Family registry of Windsors and never spoke of her again. That's the whole story..."

Arthur, upset at Marquis, quickly recovered and said,

"Isn't it the Marquis's fault? The Count saved him from the Emperor's scheme; shouldn't he be at least grateful to him rather than criticizing him as a traitor? And why banish his loved sister only for the sake of dignity, while his dignity was well preserved and even got uplifted? And if-"

"Stop there!" Carl interrupted with rage.

He continued,

"Arthur, you don't even know the pain my father has been through after that. Just as he was about to correct his mistake and welcome my aunt back into the family, he was forced to go to the war with Delnet and spent 20 years fighting the enemies (in tears) without... without even getting to say his only left family goodbye... As... as he fought for his nation... he... he... didn't even know that the family he was trying to meet after that nightmare WASN'T EVEN ALIVE TO MEET HIM." Carl burst into tears.

Arthur was in too much shock to speak. He kept mumbling the words,

"how? why?"

Carl continued,

"You know how during wars there is limited communication, only the orders for the next attack and reports are exchanged-"

Arthur interrupted,

"But even so, the messages related to incidents like deaths of family members are sent."

"NO, THEY DIDN'T", Carl shouted.

"They stopped it all in the middle of the war. And when the returned soldiers questioned it, they gave a ridiculous answer like 'to maintain soldiers' morale'. My father, who worked in that to save his country, wasn't even able to say goodbye to his beloved sister and see her in his lifetime at all... He kept regretting the fact that his last words to his beloved sister were, 'I could never have a sister like you,' and went into depression. He won't even come out of his room anymore. All this because of one mistake."
