When it comes to life I would say that I have done my best with what I was given. Before my 10th birthday everything was simple and fun, running around the castle, playing with the staff, and more brought a fun light to my life. It was after I turned 10 that things started to go downhill. Dad left after that night and didn't return back home, always staying in the field to hunt even more monsters and lead from the front. I broke my brother's arm, and left to try to find a cure on my own. I spent years on the road, searching doing odd jobs like cargo and more hoping to find what I needed. It was that day almost 6 months ago now that my luck began to hit an upward spike. I had a lead for once, saved a town from a problem that may cause a lot of damage, made some great friends, went on quests, and began to enjoy days. Though Aiden helped a lot with that, he helped me through the ox moth dream, worked daily to make sure I could live a semi-normal day to day, and when he finally finished that potion and it worked I broke down crying right then and there. I had thought that finally my years of turmoil were paying for some good luck.
It seemed to shatter so fast. A notification that Aiden was hit, rushing over to try to save him before it could fully work, even if I knew that's not how it actually worked, yet the most cruel part was the look in his eyes. It was a look I saw on my fathers face when he thought I was a monster in the room with his daughter, on my brother's face when I stood over him after breaking his arm. Fear, fear that I was going to hurt them. To make matters worse I tried everything, pulled out all the stops and used every drop of energy I had to attack and try to hurt pip, but none of it seemed to work, severed limbs would grow back faster than I could rip them off, crushed organs returned to shape, even slamming him into the wall so hard he seemed to splat had him reforming in seconds. The entire time all he could do was ask me questions like
"Why are you angry? I just showed you he was a bad match, I'm trying to help you."
He said it like I was acting crazy for trying to hurt him, and while I know that he was in the wrong, a small part of me wondered and realized that it was like a final nail in a coffin. So I made a simple plan, when all of this was over I would leave and go home. I had my cure to my condition, and I'm sure the party wouldn't want me around now that Aiden is scared of me. Yet fate seemed unwilling to even give me that as the ship was falling towards us.
I was tapped out of energy and strength, I knew that. My muscles would not have the power to catch a ship like that, and it would crush me to death if I stayed, but that voice came back to my ears
"It only takes one… bad… diceroll"
My feet moved, watching as Aiden seemed to go rigid as something hit him, if I couldn't survive it he most certainly couldn't either. So I lept, grabbing him and positioning the ship to my back as for once I didn't want to let cruel fate yank me around without trying to push back, even if it killed me. Aiden's eyes widened in surprise as I grabbed him as I closed my eyes waiting for the impact.
At least the last thing I saw wasn't someone scared of me
I thought as I heard the sound of wood splintering and... bells?
My eyes opened as I saw a massive black boot come crashing out from the ship behind me, as a towering 50ft tall figure wearing a set of red pants and a red vest with a large white beard. Their feet caught the ground as one of their hands went underneath the ship as another caught Aiden, Jax, and I as the giants boots skidded on the ground to bring the ship to a stop.
"Well now, which one of you is Aiden?"
The giant asked, looking down at us with a toothy grin. I stared up from where the three of us were gathered on his palm. I refused to let go of Aiden as my eyes quickly scanned around us. Thalia was out of sight, but she was alive since there was no message, and this giant's side wasn't determined yet.
"W-Why, did Ymer send you!"
I barked, feeling my strength return as a throbbing pain spread where I made more mutations by cannibalizing my HP. The giant stared down at us with a raised eyebrow as to my surprise he lowered his hand to let us off before he began to shrink, to a still very tall 7 ft man, but much smaller figure.
"Well I don't know a Ymer, I came to say hi to my nephew."
My jaw went slack as I stared at the man and looked back to Aiden who seemed just as bewildered as I was.
"Aiden, when in the hells were you going to tell us you were related to a giaaaaand you're just a slack jawed as Selene so it seems you're just as confused as we are."
Jax said switching from an accusation to a realization mid sentence. We all stared for a moment before the man walked over to Aiden and put a massive palm that's pinkie and thumb could probably reach to either side of Aiden's torso as he ruffled his hair.
"There you are, dad said his only grandson may be in a pickle so I figured I would come help you out, I'm Nick, and the very shy hunk of metal over there is your uncle steel."
"Shy my ass, and for your information, how the fuck are you planning to convince him that we are blood related, news flash, IM A FLOATING FUCKING SWORD!"
Came a more rough voice as a large black steel great sword floated out and over. I found myself agreeing with the cursing sword, I was in fact not convinced that he and Aiden were somehow blood relatives.
"I…. I….. huh? So your saying we are somehow related because grandpa apparently had kids with a giant and a sword?"
"Well no, I'm human through and through and steel was human before his soul skill turned him into a sword."
Aiden opened his mouth as if to protest this, but Nick stuck out a hand and held up a finger to shush him.
"Questions later, shows about to start."
As if on cue, there was a wave of heat that washed over the city, a glow in the distance from where the group making the assistive ritual channeled power to help with the power, a large cage of whipping wind forming around the towering Zilla as they ripped and tore at it, their claws going through the wind as it reformed. The heat continued to build as above him a star of blazing light seemed to be building. Words echoing over the city as if spoken from next to ones ear, but the voice was not a shout, it was more like the world wanted to hear what this person had to say.
"Ash remembers the sun, though the sky forgot its name. I shatter the silence that caged a starborn flame. Let the ember of eternity breathe through mortal lungs. By furnace heart and forge of will, let every doubt be sung."
Zillas eyes darted upward to where the star was growing in intensity as in a seemingly last ditch effort it charged up energy in its chest, the scales pulsing and channeling as he turned his head down towards the windswept cage, a deafening blast ripping the wind apart as the beam struck the ground, a wave of green and yellow energy surged as if from another source. Even from here I could feel my fatigue vanish like dust as my wounds closed. The beam was deflected from the ground for a moment as the wind cage began to reform.
"Crown of cinder, wake—your throne is made of falling suns. Spiral blaze, devour the void where lesser fire runs. Ignite the bones of heaven, turn black constellations red. Burn the future into present, leave the past as molten thread. As nova, as king, as the roar before creation speaks, rise."
The energy seemed to change color, from red, to blue, to purple, and then white as despite the force of energy rising from the strange green and yellow shield the beam punched through. A massive wave of dust began to rise up as the giant grew in size again, ready to protect us from the wave with his body as the wave seemed to be swallowed by a last deeper green wave devoured it, its meaning seeming to pass over everyone as it ran through us. No one dies today. Zilla's breath seemed to run out as it was free of its windbound chains, a deep crater of molten magma at its feet as it had finished what was left of a distraction before he turned as if to face the star in the sky, but it was gone as instead a small blazing individual floated before Zilla's face, the towering beast stepping back as if surprised
"Cataclysm unbound—let the world learn how a star dies."
As the words finished the figure seemed to go from a familiarity and knowability to an unknown thing. It was dawned in a mantle of flames floating in flowing streams behind itself. Skin charred black it felt like seeing a small piece of something bigger. The figure raised a hand, a single finger reaching forward to gently tap Zilla on the snout. It was so simple, and felt so nonlethal that I worried that this being was not here to help as my vision suddenly became white, a strange ringing rushed over my ears as I had to blink a few times before my vision began to recover. Next to me Aiden and Jax seemed to be doing the same.
Where Zilla had stood was now a towering pile of ash, roughly in zillas shape, but falling apart even as we watched, ashen arms falling and bursting into black and gray soot. The floating figure seemed to take a moment to stare up at the sky before they raised a finger, a series of burning flames flew upward and burst overhead in a display not unlike dazzling explosions, loud but not unsatisfying popping and bursting sounds echoed as the explosions seemed to shape out a word
