Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: Aftermath and New Resolve

The dawn broke over a scarred but standing Glory City.

The fires had been extinguished, the wounded tended, and the bodies cleared. Though the city bore deep wounds, it had survived—because of them.

Ling Tian stood at the edge of the plaza, watching the sunrise paint the sky in hues of orange and gold. His shoulders were heavy, his heart fierce but tired.

"They're rebuilding already," a soft voice came from behind.

He turned to see Xiao Ning'er approaching, her long hair loose, a bandage on her arm. Her eyes were tired, but bright with quiet pride.

"They're strong," Ling Tian said, nodding toward the workers and soldiers. "Stronger than they know."

She stopped beside him, gazing out at the city. "Thanks to you. To us."

For a moment, neither spoke—sharing the peace of hard-won survival.

Later, in the City Lord's Mansion, Ye Zong summoned them.

"You've done what many thought impossible," the City Lord said, eyes fierce with gratitude. "The Sacred Family has been shattered. Shen Yue… fled the city under cover of night."

Ling Tian's jaw tightened. "He won't stay gone."

"No," Ye Zong agreed. "But for now, Glory City breathes free because of you both. And we owe you a debt."

Xiao Ning'er stepped forward, her voice clear. "We'll keep standing guard. Whatever comes next… we'll face it."

Ye Zong nodded solemnly. "And you won't stand alone."

That night, as quiet finally returned, Ling Tian and Xiao Ning'er found themselves back at their usual spot beneath the stars.

For the first time in days, the tension melted away.

Ling Tian leaned back, eyes tracing constellations. "We survived," he murmured.

Xiao Ning'er lay beside him, her head resting lightly on his chest. "Together."

His fingers brushed her hair, lingering in the softness. "You were incredible out there."

She smiled, eyes half-lidded. "So were you."

A beat passed—then she lifted her head, meeting his gaze, her eyes shining with something deep and unguarded.

"I don't want to waste any more time," she whispered.

He pulled her close, his lips brushing hers—a kiss deep and lingering, not hurried now, but full of promise.

When they parted, he murmured against her skin, "Neither do I."

And under the stars, their bond deepened—not just warriors, but partners in every way.
